While he's right about some things, he's a bit jaded about a few things.
-The horsepower and stuff; yeah a lot of it goes to prettying up games. But it opens more doors than that. It gives games more resources to make gameplay more intricate and complex. And I agree; if all that's going to happen is we get prettier shooters next generation I think that will be a disappointment.
-Rolling out a new consoles with new possibilities doesn't mean the general player base will change their tastes. I grew up with the SNES; I still love a good platformer or isometric RPG above everything and anything else out there. People like familiar things and they like repetition. Pushing boundaries in design is good, but most people know what they like and they're going to keep playing those types of games.
@Hicks233 Great post. You definitely touched on some very valid concerns.
People need to investigate kickstarter investments, and the projects themselves need to increase the transparency of their motives. Distribution method, being the watershed topic it is now, should at least be disclosed first hand.
(Saying that, I realize in most cases that it would be impossible for some of these kickstarter projects to know that beforehand... so I don't know. )
@Hvac0120 Agreed. And in the face of other organizations providing similar communication utilities for free (Steam, Battle.net, even PSN) Microsoft is going to have to do a lot more than offer otherwise free services to Gold members to convince customers they're doing little more than holding multiplayer hostage.
Glass half full is that others will take this as an example, learn lessons, and do it better next time. Whatever that may mean. Maybe they do away with the DRM, or just do a better job implementing it? Who knows.
And a bad game is a bad game. It will, or won't, sell no matter how you lock it down. You are right for being mad at people who bought the game; we're just as much a problem as Blizzard is.
This is easily one of the best games I've ever played.
It's a shame that Blizzard reinforced the likely temperamental complaints of the many doubters, but that doesn't change the fact that this game is absolutely phenomenal.
When the servers stabilize, we'll all be having too much fun to remember and dwindle on this.
