@cboye18: dont worry, my money goes to my PC loooong before it gets sunk into one of these shitboxes. I'm still debating on a 30xx series card upgrade.

PS5 is something I may look at in 4-5 years at a discount and if it actually has anything interesting on it.

Performance mode for 60 frames?

You have got to be kidding me. Why isn't fps a baseline for development at this point and how did you make something that isnt powerful enough to just run shit at 60 FPS as a standard? We're at the point where 120 frames needs to start being the next big thing.

30 fps needs to be unacceptable at this point. It should've been unacceptable last gen.

You cant have realistic looking visuals if it's a 30 frame blurfest.

If Bethesda/Id titles arent coming to the PS5, this is going to be a really, really big deal this gen.

@boobytrap: Your post.... literally just confirmed that it was bad engineering on Sony's part.

Why create a console architecture in a vacuum? Did Sony not expect to make future consoles? There was zero forward thinking and modularity in their design.

@lostn: Who said anything about Nintendo getting a free pass? Did you?

I think Nintendo has needed an archive library service for a while. I'm hoping their current SNES/NES virtual console is the start of that, but it pisses me off, a lot, that the digital content I purchased on Wii and WiiU isn't available to me on Switch. Why? (I think we all know why.)

Your points about physical media are pretty stupid. The whole point of digital content is that it no longer requires a physical medium to exist. Games don't have to be stored and transmitted on plastic carts. Hardware is expensive, and the input parts (Cart slots, ROM-Drives, etc.) required to incorporate every piece of physical media wouldn't work. That argument changes dramatically when there are no physical media inputs in the hardware anymore.

The extension of that idea now is the removal of proprietary hardware to play them. If you created a hardware solution that "doesn't work" with previous software, you're a ****ing moron and you've just disenfranchised your customers. No one is buying that who isn't indoctrinated.

The movement to digital distribution has taken 20 years to get to this point and Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo continuing to hock hardware as though it's valuable is ridiculous. My PC has superior versions of some of the most demanding games from the last gen and it will be more than capable of handling any title released in the next.

Proprietary consoles are worthless; make games not hardware. We're not at that point because Nintendo, Microsoft and ESPECIALLY Sony are focusing on raping their customers as hard as they can and maintaining their walled gardens to that end.

They'd have more volume with their games if they just opened things up and let each other publish on their platform. They're morons and a disgrace to the industry. And I give some leeway to Microsoft since they are working on keeping legacy content available to customers. That's a good start.

@wahsobe: This. Gamepass is a superior service and so long as Microsoft can continue offering so much value and market it well I really think it's going to only continue to take market share.
