Hey guys,

I just got a Nintendo 64 and I'm looking for some help. I'm kind of wanting to get into some older games, maybe back to the NES days. I played games as a kid, but didn't get more serious with games until a few years ago. So, over the years, I missed out on a lot of great games and I thought it would be fun to start playing some of them. So, I decided to start with the N64. I love Nintendo products and games and it was a console I never owned and only played once, so I thought it was a perfect place to start.

So, basically, I'm looking into some of the stuff I should get for the system. I'm working on a list of games so I can keep an eye out for them when I'm shopping. So here are my questions:

1. Specific Game questions

  • Super Mario 64 looks good, but I already have Super Mario 64 DS, is it worth it to get the game on the N64 as well, they look very similar?
  • Mario Party is another game I like, but I wasn't sure if I should get 1, 2 or 3. I have Mario Party 7 on the Gamecube and plan to get Mario Party DS eventually, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I'm just looking for the best one and preferably one that isn't too similar to the ones I have, plan to get.

2. What accessories do you recommend I get for the N64? I believe I already have the memory expansion get, in that spot on my N64 there is something with a red top and to my understanding, that is what it is... I believe I also need to get a memory card, but I wasn't sure if there was anything else.

3. Do you have any other suggestions for games that I should get? I play more casual games, I generally like movie games, I love platformers, side-scrollers, puzzles, etc (Some of my favorite games are Mario Games, Yoshi's Island, Kirby Games, Wario/Wario Land, Ratchet and Clank and other games along those lines, if that helps) . I'm not into shooting, fighting, etc. Here is the list of games I'm currently looking at:

These are my top priorities (as well as the games above that I have questions on):

  • Yoshi's Story
  • Donkey Kong 64
  • Banjo Kazooie
  • Banjo Tooie
  • Pokemon Snap
  • Diddy Kong Racing
  • Paper Mario (Pretty sure on this one, I hate RPGs, but I've heard this is good even if you don't like RPGs.)
  • Mario Kart 64

These are the other games I want to get eventually:

  • Mario Tennis (Not sure on this one, I love Wii Sports tennis, but not sure if it would be as much fun with a regular controller)
  • Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask (Not sure on this one either, I've not really played any Zelda games, except on the NES and never liked it)
  • Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (Same as Majora's Mask)
  • Super Smash Bros (This is another one I'm not certain on, I've never really played this type of game, but it looks a little interesting)
  • Conkers Bad Fur Day
  • Bomberman 64
  • Snowboard Kids (Haven't decided on 1 or 2, but it looks like a great game)
  • Wave Race 64
  • Bomberman Hero

So those are just the games I've found from watching reviews and/or collection videos on Youtube. I've not had too much time to look into other games.

Thanks for any help and suggestions!

I have a rather large list of games I really want, but there are two on top that will most likely be release day purchases for me and that is:

Super Mario Bros Wii

Super Mario Galaxy 2

I think home is pretty good. Sure, it isn't perfect, but for the extreme price of $0.00 you can't beat it. I recently got the 360 and I'm having a very difficult time trying to talk myself into paying $100 for the wireless adapter and $60 a year to have the ability to use live. From what I hear it is great and a lot better than Home, but in my eyes, I think Home is great considering it is free and I don't really see what Live can offer that warrants that high of a price.

I go on Home on and off all the time, I think it is fun to meet other gamers and I also like the mini-games. I've been having a lot of problems with my internet on the PS3 lately, so I've not been able to go on in the past couple weeks, but I still think it is great.

I would not trade them (except for Metroid for something else, maybe Donkey Kong or something, but I don't know if I like Metroid, so that isn't really fair) my hopes are we will get these great new games coming and still see some of the other greats down the road. I've been waiting for a game like New Super Mario Bros Wii for a while, so I'm thrilled about that and though I haven't finished Super Mario Galaxy completely, I love the game, so I'm looking forward to a sequal.

There is still a lot of time for Nintendo to release some of the other games that everyone wants, so hopefully they won't disappoint.

I'm sure you tried, but have you tried restarting everything? Go back to the Wii Menu, remove the game, take the Wii-Mote out of the guitar, put the Wii-Mote back in, then put the game back in and try it again.

If that doesn't work, then you may just have a faulty guitar. When I bought Guitar Hero III, the whammy bar stopped working after using it for a couple days, I tried everything to fix it, but it wouldn't work, finally I ended up returning it. If you've tried everything it may just be faulty, hopefully that isn't the case since world tour can be a pain to transport, but it may be your only option.

Good luck!

I'm keeping mine. Personally, I don't like the look as well of the slim. It is okay, but I like the fat better. The glossy finish on the fat is also nice, though it can be a pain.

For me, I don't think there is any real reason to change to the slim. I have an 80gb and have used very, very little of the hard drive, I probably will never fill it, so that is no reason to upgrade, it doesn't have BC, so it doesn't offer me that benefit, I don't like the design as well, so it is basically just spending $300 for something I don't need. My PS3 has already found itself the perfect spot to sit and it looks perfect, so I see no reason to change it.

Casual games for me. I like side-scrollers and platformers for the most part, but I pretty much like any casual game. I also like racing games, but I'm not addicted to them and don't play them all the time, I just like to have one or two good ones in my collection to pass the time here and there.

Halo 3 (hides under rock) I just couldn't get into it, I tried to get out of my casual ways, but was unsuccessful, therefore I wouldn't want the game no matter how cheap it was.

There are games for other systems as well, but in terms of the 360, this is the only game I've bought that I don't like.

I want some games that are very hard to find uploaded on XBL.orb_03_2006
I agree. I think it would be great to get some of the older games that are hard to find now on there. As well as some of the best Xbox games, to avoid having to play the games from disc, using the memory card, buying used, etc. I think more people would use this if they had a lot of older games for lower prices, i.e under $10. I think this would also be a perfect place to do game rentals. Actually, when I first heard about Games on Demand, my first thought was it would be a rental of the game. What I would like to see is a flat fee, says $5, $10 or something like that. Once you pay the fee you get to have the game of your choice for a week, after the week is up the game is either deleted from the hard drive, or you have the option to buy the game (of course all achievements would be saved either way in case you decided down the road you wanted to keep the game) If that were to be an option, I would use it all the time. There are a ton of games for the 360 I would love to try, but don't want to pay full price for because I don't know if I like it and the nearest store to rent games from is too far to mess with, aside from that it tends to be hassle cause half the times the games a scratched, don't work, etc. so I haven't rented a game in years. Demos are great, but they aren't available for every game (I assume this is how it is with the 360, I've only used demos on PS3 because I've not connected the 360 to the internet yet) and they only give you a small taste of the game. Some games have great demos, while others have really bad demos, so being able to pay a small price and really get to try out the game, in my opinion, would be an awesome way to use Games on Demand.

It is all a matter of the type of games you like. If the Wii has enough games that you enjoy, then it is definitely worth it. Honestly, the Wii is the best console to get if you have one of the other two and are planning to get another system, simply because it has more exclusive games, where as the PS3 and 360 share a lot of the same games.

I have all of the systems and the Wii is by far the system that gets played the most. I have played the PS3 maybe an hour in the past 2 or 3 months and the 360, which I just recently got, I've only played once in the past 2 weeks. My Wii, on the otherhand, I play almost everyday and usually for more than an hour, just because it appeals to me the most. I'm not saying the other systems are bad, they all have their good points, but for me the Wii is the console of choice.

However, each gamers is different and therefore it all boils down to the game library.
