387 is more than I would have guessed N64 had. I knew it was in the 300's but not that high. Nintendo really lost a lot of support during the N64 era. 70 games is a lot for one system. I don't even think I owned that much on any system when they were out during their life cycle. I had like 40 some odd games for NES, 30 some odd games for SNES, 22 for N64, 30 some odd games for PS1, 25 games for Sega Genesis/Megadrive, 35 some odd games for PS2, and 18 games for Gamecube.

I think I had 6 games for gamegear and like 8 for the original Gameboy. I owned too much I know.

This generation I haven't played as many games.

gamenerd15
I'm not sure how accurate the list on Wiki was, but that is what is listed. I believe that includes all the games that were made, even outside of the US, so that may be why it seems a little high.I know 70 is a lot of games, and I probably won't get most of them, but there is always a chance. There are 30 that I will definitely try to get at some point, those are my top priority games that I really want. The other 40 are games I will get if I find them and they are cheap enough, most of them are games that don't interest me that much, but if they are $1 or $2 I would get them. The benefit of getting into a system this late is that getting cheap games is pretty easy.I don't own that many games for any of my systems either. I think the only one I would get close to it is Wii, I currently have 40+ games for the Wii, with plenty more I'm planning to get, so it stands a pretty good chance of having 70 in the not so distance future, DS is likely to hit that as well. Funny thing is, all my older systems I had quite a bit of games for, except Game Gear, I think I only had 4 or 5 games for it. Its funny though, I loved the Gamegear when I was a kid, but never got any more games for it. I'd like to get some more for it now, since they are so cheap, but I'm thinking my Gamegear is going to die here pretty soon because the screen has been acting up and there is little to no sound when playing.

1a. SM64 on n64 is superior to SM64DS because you can actually control it properly, which is something that is questionable at best on the DS remake. 1b. I'm of the opinion that once you've played one mario party, you've played them all. So, pass. 2. A must is the RAM expansion pak, but if you for some reason pick up Space Station Silicon Valley, you'll need to keep around the jumper pak, because that's the only known game in the entire library that will not boot up with the extra memory installed... for whatever reason. Some might object to it, but a recent-model Gameshark for the console couldn't hurt at this point. Rumble paks are a must. The official ones at first required extra batteries to be plugged in, but apparently some simple soldering would make it so that they can draw power from the console, like any newer third-party unit. And since the official one IMO had the best implementation of rumble, it definitely would be the best of both worlds if you can do the mod. Otherwise, just get a third party one, because the official ones went through those AAA's pretty quick. As far as controller paks/memory cards go... thankfully, not many games used them. I would also suggest a third-party, multi-page version of this, too. Why? Because depending on the kinds of games you do like, when they did use the controller pak, they could sometimes get pretty ridiculous with the usage. I remember at least a few games that used ALL the memory in it FOR ONE SAVE. :| I'm just glad that most of the games I was into had their own built-in memory, and thus didn't need to buy the memory card(s). 3. other than Goldeneye, skip the movie games on the system. Pretty much, Goldeneye is the only movie-based game on the system that didn't suck. Also, with an n64, it's practically required to own a copy of Super Smash Bros. So add that to the list. Other than that, your list is quite good, but I notice not much of any of them are one of those games that were listed to use the RAM expansion pak. So in that case, pick up Rogue Squadron or Perfect Dark if you can, because then you'll have something worth using it with. :)codezer0

Thanks for all the info!

Thanks for the tip on the expansion pack. I don't have the jumper pack because my N64 game with only the expansion pack from the store. I've looked at Spacestation silicon valley and it looks interesting, but I guess I will pass on it.

I've not seen a Gameshark yet for the N64. I'm not sure how much it will cost to buy one locally instead of on eBay, but if it isn't too bad, I will probably get one. I did get a rumble pack, I just decided to get a third party one, it was half the price and I figured it wasn't worth spending much more. Thanks for the tip on the memory card. I bought one the other night, it was new, but it was third-party, so hopefully it won't fill up too fast. I've used it already and it seems to work okay.

Thanks again!

Well the first advice I can give you is blowing fixes everything (not that kind) if nothing shows up on screen grab your cartidge and blow into it.

As for games I willl say that you absolutely need Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie as well as Perfect Dark. Other good games would be Goldeneye, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64, and Donkey kong 64 (if you have a rumble pak).

KamikazeDonut

:D I remember all the times as a kid that my brother and I would try to play a game and we would have to pull the cartridge out and blow on it to get it to work. Brings back so many memories!

Thanks for the suggestions, those are all on the top of my priority list. I can't wait to get a hold of them and play!

Thanks again everyone!

Paper Mario definitely. I ain't a big fan of RPG's either, but it feels more engaging to me than other RPG's I've played.cheetahman91
Thanks for the reply. I've heard a lot of people say that its not a strong RPG and that most people that don't play RPG's will still like it, but most of the people that say that love RPGs, so I didn't know how accurate that was. I'm definitely going to give it a try and hopefully work my way through the Paper Mario series then!

I suggest you try Goldneye 007 and Perfect Dark, both are very good shooters.

Cheesemanook

Thanks, I'm pretty sure I'm going to try 007, I haven't completely decided on Perfect Dark, but I still think I will give it a try.

If you want side scrollers you are out of luck. If you want platformers, then this is the system for you

Mario 64

Conker

Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie

Donkey Kong 64

Jet Force Gemeni

Yoshi's Story was not bad, but it isn't super cool either.

In order to get all the different levels in the game, you need to collect coins and hearts and not waste all the yoshis you have. Each time you start a level you get to pick what color yoshi you want to play as. In each level you get a score based on what you collected in the level. The higher score you get in the lower levels will unlock the ability to play the higher ones in each world when you play through the game again.

Like I said before, Anything that says RARE on the cartridge is prety much a great game through and through. It was only after Microsoft acquired them that their quality went down.

gamenerd15

Thanks again, those are all on my top priority list. Yoshi sounds like it may be a little bit different, but I'm thinking I will give it a try. If I don't go in expecting too much, it shouldn't be too bad :D

I went through a list on Wikipedia of all 387 games and narrowed my list down to 30 must-haves and 40 additional games I plan to get at some point. Some of the games I knew right away I would want and the rest I watched videos and reviews on before making my decision if I wanted to get them. So, now that I have all the games figured out, I think my next step is to start purchasing them all and playing them. I can't wait to get started, there are so many great ones out there!

Thanks again for all the replies!

Bomberman 64 I thought was better than Bomberman Hero, and it had a great multiplayer.

sonic_spark
Thanks, I've never played a Bomberman game, except for a demo of a Playstation 3 download game. It looks pretty interesting, so I'm looking forward to trying it.

dont get Yoshis Story

Solid_Snake56

I would like to try the game, but based on the comments from everyone, I don't know if I will. It will all depend on how much it costs, if its under $5 I think I might take the chance. I loved Yoshi's Island, so it would be interesting to just see what they did to the game on the N64.

Buy Goemon Mystical Ninja and its sequel. Awesome games.

Cerberus_Legion

Thanks for the suggestion, I will check it out!

tartardk
Thanks so much for the suggestions. Those are all on my list of top picks. I've never played a Banjo game, so I'm really looking forward to that and the others look awesome as well!

Well there are no other yoshi games on the N64, so that was probably its name during development. I imagine it was the same with Zelda, just a codename until the official title was decided on and released to the public. I would try getting games locally first, certain games might be more expensive on ebay than local stores, or vice-versa. Its safer to go local though. Also, you might want to check amazon too.Scythes777

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. I think the video I saw it in was a promo video for Starfox 64 (one where they had some guys in Sony and Sega shirts trying to get information out of a guy in a Nintendo shirt about the new big game they were releasing for the N64, which was Star Fox. Toward the end they showed some upcomming games and they listed those two, under that name) and I was hoping there would be more games out, but after looking for it, I kind of figured that was the case.

I am hoping to buy most stuff locally, I prefer to do that anyway in case there is a problem (I've not bought off of eBay in a while and I've been noticing now that I'm looking for stuff more and more people aren't accepting returns, which isn't a very positive thing to see) and then I can actually see the game and the condition before buying it. There is pretty much only one store I shop at that is going to have the older games and I'm just trying to figure out what to do for all the games they don't have. For example, I have Donkey Kong Country 2 for SNES, but not 1 or 3, I want to get the other games and finding a good copy of each one, for a decent price, locally, won't be easy. I'm going to try and find some more stores and hopefully that will expand my options. The other thing, I hate spending so much money on these older games. I like them and they are great games, but I hate buying old, used games and paying such high prices, I was looking at the Donkey Kong games online and they are upwards of $25... I guess I will just working on buying the games as I need them instead of stockpiling them whenever I find them.

Thanks again, I appreciate the help!

Hey guys,

I found a list on Wikipedia of all 387 N64 games that were released, so I think I now have a complete list of everything I want to get, thanks to everyone here there are a lot of games that I would have never had on my list before :D

While looking at the list I came up with two more questions:

1. I just want to confirm was Yoshi's Island 64 the name of Yoshi's Story when it was still in development? I seen a video last night that mentioned Yoshi's Island 64, but all I can find is Yoshi's Story and I'm thinking that may be why... Also, is that the same situation with Zelda 64?

2. What are your thoughts on buying N64 games from eBay? There are so many games I want now, I'm not sure how many I'm going to be able to find at the stores around me and I know a lot of them are going to be a little more pricey (the stores I've been to charge a lot more for first party Nintendo titles, i.e. over $20/$25) I would like to try and get as many of the games I want as possible, but also not spend top dollar for all the games. I know that fake games are quite common on eBay, but I wasn't sure how big of any issue it was with N64 games. I know the basics, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is, stick with sellers in the USA with lots of good feedback and make sure they have an actual picture of the game, etc. But I was just curious if I should utilize eBay for getting some of these games, or avoid it and just get as many as I can locally.

Thanks again everyone!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to thank everyone again for all your replies and taking the time and effort to give me all these great ideas. I spent the past few days watching videos on YouTube to find the ones I want to get first. My little list of games I planned to get has gotten much, much bigger now, so I should have plenty of games to keep my occupied for a while.

Thanks again to everyone, I really appreciate all the ideas!

I'm sure it has been mentioned more than once in this thread, but a "nostalgic" thread popped up and it reminded me of Blast Corps. I can't stress that game enough, so I hope it's high on your list. It's pick up and play, it's challenging, it still looks great, the music is brilliant, and the "high score" aspect is rewarding as well. I've been playing games since the nes and I'd probably put that in my top 5 games of all-time, nostalgic factor aside--it holds up and plays better than games being released today.

It was mentioned in some of the other posts. I had never heard of it before, but after watching some videos, I definitely plan to get it. I thought I knew most of the good titles that were on the N64, but I didn't even scratch the surface until everyone started giving me ideas, and this was one of the many titles I missed. As far as it being better than a lot of what is being released today... with some of the games out today, that's not always too hard :D Thanks for the suggestion!

Pefect Dark(combat boost for those that know on the elevator level oh with laptop guns and mines) The most amazing multiplayer game for N64 and best multiplayer shooter till Halo:CE. Oh and you can play with bots.

THis game is a must buy, you will need an expansion pack though. Its so aweosme IMO better then Goldeneye overall but Goldeneye awesome and must buy aswell. The 2 best games for N64.

grizzlybear1
Thanks, I will definitely look into these. They aren't normally the type games I would get, but I find I do like these type games on older systems, can't get into the newer stuff.

Most people liked 007 and perfect dark, I am the only person who doesn't. I honestly never liked the N64 very much, and I always had a thing about not buying a system that doesn't have 5 games I really like, sadly it never reached the 5 in my eyes, of course I still borrowed friend's systems sometimes and I felt that games on the 64 were all black or white, either the best experience ever or worst. With That said I liked Mario64,Paper Mario, Star Fox, and Zelda Ocarina of Time, I tried Majora's Mask and couldn't get into it. Also if you never played mega man legends on the PSone (or did and liked it) mega man 64 is the same thing with better graphics. there are a number of PSone games that have better graphics on the N64 and you might want to look some things up. Even if you don't like mega man there is a good chance you'd like legends.

dovberg

The N64 seems to have a lot of games that I will like. From just starting to look into games I can easily find 10 games that I'm certain I will enjoy. I've never had a problem finding games I like on a Nintendo system and after I started looking into older games, I was surprised to see how much the N64 had to offer for me and that I never had one. Since I missed it, I knew I had to back and see what it was all about. I've heard similar things from other people about the system, especially with the games either being the best or worst game, so I'm glad that I'm able to find games I like.... Thanks so much for the suggestion of Mega Man. I didn't even know there was a Mega Man game on the N64. I had never heard of Mega Man until a few years ago (I know, very sad) and I was looking for some game suggestions for my PSP (I was having a hard time finding games for it) and someone, I believe it was someone on GameSpot suggestion Mega Man Powered Up. It was a little hard to find, but when I finally did, I couldn't believe how much I liked it. It is the exact type of game I like and now I buy Mega Man games whenever I can find them, so getting one for the N64 will be perfect!

Ocarina Of Time
Goldeneye 007
Banjo Kazooie
Banjo Tooie
Majoras Mask
F-Zero X
Mario Party

Tony Hawks Pro Skater
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3
Wipeout 64
Vigilante 8
Bio Freaks

thats all i can think of thats worth getting, theres probably a stack more that i forgot but that list should keep you occupied for a while.

loft8000

Wow, thank you so much. This gives me a ton of games to check out and there are quite a few I've never heard of. This should really help me add to my list :)

If you can find Blast Corps, get it! as well as body harvest. Both great games I suggest you look into. Also if you have a Gamecube then just get the F Zero game on that because its much better. Both Snowboard Kids games are great as well so definitely pick both up.

Scythes777

Thanks! These sound like some interesting games, can't wait to see what they are. I have a gamecube, don't use it much anymore (I actually had to unplug it so I could put the N64 on my TV, but I use my Wii sometimes, I just prefer to play the Gamecube games on the Gamecube) so I may get F Zero on that. I watched a video of Snwoboard Kids on Youtube last night and it looks awesome, kind of looks like Mario Kart with a little twist, I'm excited to give it a try.

Thanks again for all the suggestions, I really appreciate them!

Wow, thanks so much for all the answers. I checked this morning to see if I had any replies, I was never expecting to get so many answer so quickly, I really appreciate it!

Well if ur into wrestling WWF No Mercey is a must have, by far the best wrestling game ever made, even if ur not its worth a try. also WWf wrestlemania 2000, wcw revenge,

PhoenixVenom

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not really into wrestling and I recently tried a wrestling game on the PS3 and didn't really like it, but I may look into it!

i see your missing star fox 64..

i recommend monopoly 64 if your a fan of them game... imo, better than the nes, snes and wii versions.

you can get the rumble pack accessory ..i think star fox uses it.. i have it and the ruumbling is a bit overpowered.. was better implemented in gamecube controller..

KBFloYd

I've heard a lot of about Star Fox, but never really looked into the game, from what I've seen of it, it didn't look like something I would like, but now that I have the N64 I will check out some videos of it. I have Monopoly on the SNES and haven't really played it much, but it seems like it would be a great game for multi-player, so I will check it out as well. I was thinking about getting the rumble pack, I think they have some that use batteries and some that don't. I find myself wanting the controller to rumble when I hit things, but not sure if it is really worth using up a ton of batteries... Does only certain games use it? If so, I will have to look into it and see if many of the games I want will even be able to use it.

Ive never played Super Mario 64 DS but Ive heard the control is a bit off so if you really like Mario Id say getting SM64 for N64 is a good choice and its on a much bigger screen obviously. However I know the DS version has extras so its really up to you if wana replay it.

I donot suggest Yoshis Story. It has no real ending and and can be quite easy but if your up for a challenge then I guess you could get it for the "Number 4 Levels". Kinda hard to explain.

My personal picks would be:

Kirby 64 Crystal Shards

Earthworm Jim 3D (despite what you may have heard its a really good game.)

Pokemon Snap (but you already listed it)

Conkers Bad Fur Day but if you have an Xbox you should definitly get that version instead. I know graphics arnt everything but its the same game except really, really nice to look at, so its just one more reason to get the Xbox game.

wildcat2000

Thanks for all the info. I've not played Super Mario 64 on the DS that much yet, but I've always heard it was a great game. I guess if I find it for a good price I will get it, otherwise I can skip it.

I've noticed Yoshi's Story looks quite easy and I don't know what "Number 4 Levels" are, yet, but that alone makes me curious about the game and I loved Yoshi's Island as a kid, so it may still be a good choice.

I will definitely look into Kirby 64 Crystal Shards and Earthworm Jim 3D, I've not heard of either, but they both sound great and like something I would like. I do have a 360, so I will probably get Conkers Bad Fur Day on it instead, thanks for the suggestion!

i would say : nfl blitz, dr mario64,star wars episode1 racer,, star wars shadows of the empire, star wars episode 1 battle for naboo, battle zone rise of the black dogs, indiana jones and the infernal machine, the legend of zelda ocarina of time ,the legend of zeld majora`s mask, super smash brothers, qb club 99,nlps

Thanks, I will definitely look into these... I've not heard of most of these games, so that should give me several more to add!

xbox version of BFD is no where as good.

Get conkers bad fur day on 64. Youll love it.

blazinpuertoroc

Thanks, I will look into it and see what I can find... I prefer not to buy used for my newer systems and I've never seen this game in store before, so, if I find it for the N64 first, that is probably what I will get.

I know you aren't into shooting but these games are a must on the 64.

007 Goldeneye

Perfect Dark

Battle Tanx

As for accesories, get the rumble pack and a memory card.

tequilasunriser

I will look into them, I've heard a lot of good things about them, especially Goldeneye. I used to play a game on the PC, I think it was Doom or something, and I liked it, so I may like some of these as well. I will get those as accessories as well, because they seem to be the most common and the memory card isa must.

In my opinion, Mario Party 3 was the best of the three, but all three are very good. Mario Party 3 has a cool dual mode where you have characters like boo the ghost, a bomb-omb, Koopa, and others by your side as partners, and you use them to attack the other player as well as to defend you from attacks. You play mini-games to pay their fees. On the same lines, I think Mario Party 1 has some of the best mini-games.

If you love platformers, then I'd recommed Mischief Makers. I really liked it as a kid and still like it now. Yoshi's Story is a good game, although I haven't played it in like five years or more. I liked it, but some might think it's too kiddie.

dog64

Thanks... I remember playing a Mario Party game but I cannot remember which one it was, but the dual mode sounds kind of familiar, so it may have been 3... I may end up getting 1 and 3 because 3 seems like the one I liked when I played it, but I also love the mini-games, so I want the one that has the best. Platformers and side-scrollers are my favorite types of games, so I will definitely look into Mischief Makers, if its a good platformer, I will probably like it.

  • Donkey Kong 64
  • Diddy Kong Racing
  • Paper Mario (Pretty sure on this one, I hate RPGs, but I've heard this is good even if you don't like RPGs.)
  • Mario Kart 64
  • Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask (Not sure on this one either, I've not really played any Zelda games, except on the NES and never liked it)
  • Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (Same as Majora's Mask)
  • Super Smash Bros (This is another one I'm not certain on, I've never really played this type of game, but it looks a little interesting)
  • Conkers Bad Fur Day
  • Wave Race 64

All great choices thatI would include on my list! You've got good tastes for the N64 already. A few more I'd suggest:

  • Resident Evil 2 - If you don't already own this for the PS1 or the Dreamcast, then this is a must-have! The best entry in Capcom's original Resident Evil Trilogy. Play as rookie copLeon Kennedy or Claire Redfield as you try to survive the zombie/monster outbreak in Racoon City and solve the mystery of The Umbrella Corp. involvement in the tradgedy...or experiment?
  • Spider-Man - If you don't alredy have this one for the PS1 or Dreamcast, then this also a must have action game. This game is what Spider-Man: The Movie (PS2/XBox/GC) was based off of. Similar game play to that game, but based in the comic universe with more a variety of super-villains to face. Incredibly funweb-swinging and wall-crawling mechanincs.
  • Doom 64 - One of the best looking console port of Doom out there. It may have come out too late in it's time, but nowadays that matters little. it looks 10x better on N64 than SNES or Sega 32X. This game made first-person shooting fans out of millions of gamers. Fight hell rising on Earth, except one twist, it's set in the future and on Mars.

As for accessories, I'd check out the GameShark for the N64. It allows you to use various cheats and enhancements on you N64 games. Much like the old Game Genies, but technically superior as it allows you to use much more codes at once, and has a database of codes it saves and you can addcodes to itas you discover new codes. You put itinto your N64 just like a regular game, then plug the game into the GameShark, just like SNES Game Genie.

-Nate-

Emerald_Warrior

Thanks, I will definitely look into those. I'm not sure on Resident Evil 2, I've looked into these games for the systems I already have and always skipped over them because they weren't really my style, but its definitely something I will look into. Spider-Man sounds great, I've not really watched the movies or anything like that, but I've been looking at some of the current games and they all seem like a great idea, but just don't turn out good, so this should be good. I had no idea there was a Doom game on the 64 (again, I've not spent too much time looking into games yet) but I remember playing Doom on the PC (I'm pretty sure that's what it was. I never liked FPS or any shooting game that much, but I always liked Doom, so this is definitely one I will have to look into. I've never actually owned a Gameshark or a Game Genie, so this could be very interesting as well, will definitely look into it!

mischief makers was a fun 2D side scroller on N64

krunkfu2

I've never heard of this game, but its been suggested twice, so it will definitely go on my list. I love side-scrolling games, so any good one I can find will definitley be added to my collection. Thanks!

I would like to add F-Zero X, Star Wars Episode 1 Pod Racer. Jet Force Gemeni, Killer Instinct Gold, Pilotwings 64, Duke Nukem Zero Hour, and Turok 2. Any game made by Rare is good on the N64. Most of their games have been mentioned. Blast Corps is also another one. 1080 might still hold up. Paper Mario was cool. Just make sure you have the Expansion pack for Majora's Mask, and Donkey Kong 64. Are you just collecting from anywhere? How much for these games. Everybody had Mario 64 so that game shouldn't cost you too much. There are differences between the original and DS, You only played as Mario in the original and there were only 120 stars and not 150. N64 was great despite the limited amout of games it had. The N64 only had what like 300 some odd games and in everyone's list we have given you like 40 or more. That goes to show you just how awsome the system was.

There are also some other games while not top tier are still cool. The world is not enough was nowhere near what Goldeneye was, but it was still cool. Turok 3 was nowhere near what the first 2 games were but it was still cool. Mortal Kombat 4 despite the the story endings of the N64 version was still cool.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will look into these. I've looked at some of them, i.e. F-Zero X, 1080, etc. and they looked good, but I put some of the others on my list to get first, i.e. Mario Kart and Diddy Kong over F-Zero X and Snowboard Kids over 1080... I eventually may get them, but I'm just trying to get an idea of what I want to get first.

I'm pretty sure I have the expansion pack, I just have to research it a little more first. When I bought the system, it was the same price as the others in the store, but I've gone back and they didn't have the red thing in the expansion port, so I'm not sure why mine had it and the others didn't. If I don't have it, I will get one, but I'm pretty sure I have it... The main reason I want it is for Donkey Kong 64, I love the Donkey Kong games I've played and this one looks awesome.

Right now, I'm just buying from a store near me, Play N Trade. They have pretty fair prices and the guarantee and since I really haven't bought many used games I like starting with a local store first. I will probably start getting some games from eBay down the road, but for now Play N Trade has a good selection and good prices. I'm waiting to get some more games right now because they changed specials, normally they have 50% off these games, so I'm going to wait till it comes back.

The N64 seemed like a great system and since I never had it, I thought it would be a great system to start collecting for. I love most games Nintendo makes and the N64 seemed to offer a lot of great Nintendo titles. I like that it has fewer games in the library because it will be easier to collect all the good games I want. Not to mention, having fewer good games ratherthan a lot of not so great games is a better option. From what I've played so far I love the system and what I've found out about it and the games, it seems great.

Ive heard some people say this but whats so great about the N64 version? Seriously, I dont understand. There werent any level or story changes. Ive read the multiplayer can be diffrent but Im not into multi much.

I had the N64 version. I bought it new when our local K-Mart was closing down and they clearanced alot of things but soon after the Xbox version came out so I traded it and got that instead. I had played up til the poop boss on the N64.

I'll look into it and see what I can find. If they are pretty much the same game, then I will probably get it on the 360 since I don't have that many games on the 360 yet. Multi-player is nice, but its really not important to me on the 360 or N64 yet since I only have one controller for each. I will probably end up getting an N64 controller to play multi-player, but I don't really plan to get one for the 360.

1. If you have Super Mario 64 DS there's no point in getting the N64 version except for the better controls. The N64 version has 30 fewer stars, the only playable character is mario, there are much fewer special stages, and the graphics are worse. I wouldn't bother with Mario Party either. I've never been a big fan of the Mario Party series since imo if you're played one Mario Party you've played them all.

2. Get the expansion pak, definitely. Make sure it's an official one too. I remember as a kid that I tried to save some money by getting a 3rd party expansion pak and things didn't turn out well. It would also be a good idea to invest in a rumble pak unless you don't like controller vibration for whatever reason. I wouldn't worry about a memory card though. Almost all N64 games save their data to the catridge. There are a few exceptions (like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2) but games that required a memory pak in order to save data were very rare. Also note that the N64 controllers have a defect in the analog stick that causes it to come loose after awhile. As a result, finding working N64 controllers can be a bit difficult so keep that in mind.

3. Here's my game recommendations:

- OCARINA OF TIME (if you own only one N64 game, it should be OoT. It is quite possibly the best game ever made and is definitely the best game on the N64. The gameplay is also different from the 2D games, so I wouldn't let your impressions of the NES Zelda games influence your decision on getting OoT)
- Majora's Mask (I'd say get this after OoT since having played through OoT makes this game easier to understand as well as allowing you to catch references to OoT)
- Starfox 64 (unlike all the SF games released after it, this one is actually good)
- Goldeneye 007 (the best console FPS from the 32/64 bit gen)
- Paper Mario (best one in the series imo)
- Donkey Kong 64
- Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie
- Really anything else made by Rare. The N64 was their golden age.
- Kirby 64
- Super Smash Bros (but only if you have friends willing to play it with you. Otherwise I wouldn't blow more than $5-10 on it)
- Resident Evil 2 (if you haven't already played it)
- Pokemon Snap
- If you like bomberman then get Bomberman 64 and Bomberman Heroes
- Mario Kart 64
- Yoshi's Story
- Pilotwings 64 (a cutesy arcade flight sim game. Really mellow and surprisingly fun)

That's what I figured with Super Mario 64, it seems like a great game, but from what I've seen/heard, they look identical. I may get it if its cheap, just to have in my collection, but I think the DS version is better.

I will check to see if what I have in my N64 is a Nintendo expansion pack, since it was already in there, I didn't bother to take it out. I didn't realize how much I liked the rumble in a controller until I didn't have it. I've always wished my portables had it, but its even worse with a regular console, so I definitely think I need to get it... Its good to know not all games require a memory card. When I got the system, I just assumed I wouldn't need one since it was cartridge based and then wouldn't you know the first game I got needed it :D I'm pretty sure I've seen some N64 controllers that were new, so I may pick a few of those up. So far, my analog stick seems okay, but it would be nice to have some backups... hopefully I can find some that match my system.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will look into them. I think I will try at least one Zelda game on the system. The reason I was questioning it is because I was pretty young when I played Zelda on the NES and never could understand what I was doing or what I was supposed to do. As far as I can recall, I never made it past the very first part of the game. So, I've never went back to the series, but I've been interested in trying them.

Yoshi's story isn't good, and Conker should be a priority.

DK64 was pretty good, and Paper Mario (way better than the GC one).

Also Ocarina of time and Majora's Mask (I enjoy more majoras mask).

Perfect Dark is an outstanding FPS if you're into it, and if you like it golden eye still plays into someones mind.

.....

Nice list, and if you still play pokemon gold/silver, Pokemon Stadium 2 is a great game to play.

_TheJoker_

Thanks for the info... I have Paper Mario on the Gamecube, but never really played it, it seems like it will take a while and I've just never had the time... As far as Pokemon, I've only played Pokemon Yellow and never liked it much... I think I played a demo of Pokemon Stadium and liked it, so I may look into that.

CBFD definitly. Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, pretty much what everyone else is saying.deoxysmaster1

Thanks, those are a lot of games I've not heard of, so I will definitely check them out!

If your going to play shooters on N64 then you will need a controller pack except for Goldeneye.

gamenerd15

I have to get one for the one game I have because it doesn't save to the cartridge. I don't plan to get too many, if any, shooters, but then there are a few I may get eventually.

Thanks again for all the suggestions, I really appreciate it. Now I have a lot of games to look into and a lot of shopping and hopefully plenty of great gaming ahead!!!!
