@twogirlsonecub: I'll give you that the release window is hurting the numbers and the Battlefront 2 fiasco damaging enthusiasm, but I disagree wholly with your other arguments.
1. COD WWII sold well because it's COD and that franchise's diehards will buy anything with that brand name on it. In addition to that, they promised it was a return to "boots on the ground," which is what most people wanted.
2. Fans have been speculating and fantasizing what a Frostbite WWII Battlefield would look like for YEARS. The time period isn't hurting it. There are subsets that would have preferred BC3 or 2143 (like me), but there is a massive group that wanted to go back to the 1940s.
3. So Battlefield is tiring, but COD isn't? Your logic defeats itself, considering you were saying that COD was selling the best it had in a while, despite every entry being largely the same.
Fact of the matter is, this is supposed to be a WWII game, it should feel like one. It doesn't. Numerous poor decisions have made that the case. EA's poor, POOR handling of criticism has done a lot to damage numbers, too. All in all, they need to rethink their decisions, moving forward.
One Grand Operation at launch... this mode has been one of EA's main selling points of the game and it can't manage to offer more than one up at launch. This is some straight up undercooked garbage. I've bought every single Battlefield since 2 at launch, but I think I'm skipping this one. With the lackluster alpha I played and news like this, it's clear EA's in no hurry to get my money.
@elleclouds: What you described isn’t physics, though. Environmental destruction may use some physics, but in BF1, it’s scripted locational deformation. Same thing with crashing through doors. That’s an animation. But, you clarified your point and I do appreciate that. You’re looking for something with a slightly higher fidelity engine. That being said, Battlefield is a terrible series to trend-chase with. As for COD, that series has been devoid of originality for some time.
@elleclouds: What “graphics and physics?” Fortnite I get, but PUBG has modern graphics and a standard physics model. Also, congratulations on being the token butthurt forumgoer who can’t understand hyperbole.
@Arkhalipso: If they don’t like the existing battle Royale games, why would they buy a game for a battle Royale mode? This is a tacked-on, trend-chasing joke of a game mode that’s going to result in resources being diverted from elsewhere in the development.
