@SporkFireXPS @Hey_Jay You're completely misinterpreting my position about effort. I wasn't trying to take some kind of stance about why female gamers don't post as often in forums or write reviews. It was entirely independent of anything else I was saying. It didn't come from some heavily-analyzed perspective. It was just the first idea that popped into my head. As I said, it wasn't predicated on any relevant information. It was just a theory. It doesn't make sense? Great. That theory has been proven wrong and put to rest. I'm not trying to defend that theory. It was just the first thing that came to mind when you brought up that specific part of the conversation.

In other words, you're reading way too heavily into it. I wasn't trying to make a point when I'd said that. It was just thinking out loud, saying something in passing.

... and regardless, it seems pretty clear that there are plenty of female gamers who are putting in effort, considering how many I've seen and met in person, some of whom are friends of mine. As for the competition, you haven't really proven anything because I said that I wasn't present for those competitions, so I have nothing to go on but your perspective from wherever you live, which has nothing to do with what I see where I live. Maybe there are girls in the competitions where I live, but I wouldn't know because I don't attend those.

@SporkFireXPS @Hey_Jay Uh, my statement about girl gamers and effort on the internet was just a theory. That's why I followed it up with saying, "I don't know." It wasn't predicated on any previously known information. That's why it was a theory.

@SporkFireXPS @Hey_Jay I wasn't around for any game competitions at FanExpo. Whenever I attend, I'm there for floor demos. Once I've gotten my fill of those, I move on to the other sections.

@SporkFireXPS @Hey_Jay That's what you see. I see what I see. It's a big world. We live different lives in different places. We see different things. That's kinda how life works. I don't see what point you're trying to make.

@SporkFireXPS @Hey_Jay There's FanExpo up in Toronto. Granted, that covers more than just games, but from each time I've been, the games areas had just as many girls as guys.

I'm also starting to get the impression you're trying to pick apart everything I say, and I'm not sure why.

@SporkFireXPS @Hey_Jay Again, my experiences have been entirely different. I don't count moms, either. Yes, I see them, too, but I was talking about 20-somethings that I see just as often as any guy. Even from what I've seen from conventions, yeah, there are certainly more guys, but I see a legitimate influx of females.

It all comes down to perspective, and mine has been that of seeing female gamers making up a legitimately fair portion of the whole. Again, though, it could be the community I live in. Perhaps mine is an unusually gaming-centric one, enough so that it put me in the position to be surprised by most of these comments.

@Cochleadoc Sadly, sometimes that doesn't even do the trick.
