Gears of War for me, even though I haven't played Halo 3 ( I have played Halo and Halo 2 and I do own a copy of Halo 3 )
Graphically, GoW was an outstanding achievement and the gameplay was much more appealing and entertaining to me than the Halo series ever was.
But that's my opinion only though, if you don't like it, then that's your problem.
Honestly, Gears of War without ANY DOUBT is better. Is there ANY magazine or otherwise that rated differently? I mean, these are the experts at it. and i have been playing since NES.
Both are great franchises but for me, I enjoyed Gears more. The four v four format is terrific for player matches where you want to talk and vent after you get killed but still be able to work with your teamates in game. I also prefer the one death style of play and IMO Halo has lost its way with the way melee moves have taken it over. Just my opinion of course...sales of Halo 3 prove how strong of a franchise it is.T_0_D
yeah but you cant look at the sales and then say that the game is better.. its only how big the fanbase is..-...
I'm a fan of both, but honestly, Halo 3 is heavily over-rated. It feels like it's geared towards a much younger crowd, which I don't like. Everything is so bright and clean, and the story was extremely boring. The multiplayer was okay, but I honestly can't stand the people on X-Box live so that pretty much kills my interest in it.
Gears of War just felt so much more gritty, violent, serious, and dark. At the risk of getting flamed by dozens of middle-schoolers, I have to admit thatGoW makes Halo look like a Disney movie. Not to mention the cooperative mode was much more fun. Four-player coop is cool, but GoW was just so much better.

I never said that sales makes a game better, I just pointed out that the sales of Halo 3 prove how strong of a franchise it truly is. I mean it has outsold some movies since it has been out. I never thought any video game franchise (this side of Pokemon or Nintendogs or something like that) could create such a revenue stream.
i think halo 3 cause tit actually has a GREAT story along with goo graphics. Online they are pretty much the same. But Gears Story really makes no sense they start you off in the middle of a story. (now my hands falling asleep so its hard to type O_O)
my opinion alsoGraphics: Gears
Gameplay: Gears
Story: Gears
Sound: Gears
Innovation: Gears
Online: Gears (Halo's is very flawed)
Lasting Value: Gears (I still play it, but haven't played Halo for 2 months)

Gears of War's online is more flawed than Halo's, but I believe it is still far more enjoyable. I don't like the run, shoot, jump, shoot, throw grenade, jump, shoot, melee online play of Halo. Also, if you're playing team slayer and two guys on the opposite team see you before you see them, you're pretty much dead seeing as it's nearly impossible to escape gun fights in Halo (probably because of poor maps). Compare this to Gears, the cover and movement system allows you to flee battles in Gears, giving you time to replenish health, alert your teammates where they are, and prepare for a counter attack. You don't have this choice in Halo, because it's either shoot, or be shot.
