GoW1 Tactics/Tips Thread

I had a dream last night that I bought the PS3... It was a sweet dream. GoW would work faster on the PS3, right?I mean, faster Loading screens (when there are any)... being it a more powerful console and all that...Soulxxx

I've had at least 6 dreams about GoWII..around 3 where I was playing...2 of them had me watchin cinematics while a thrid had be just missing it (I accidentally skipped it...which doesn't make any d*mn sense because we don't have that option..and why the f*** would I do that?!..even by accident..One had me in my cousin Elliott's room with Eternal..we had GoWII and placed it in a PS3..*dream ended*  In one the dream, GoWII played like "Diablo".  I was terribly confused by this...in another Kratos actually had Dante's Nevan and was rocking out with it against some Undead Legions..sweet.

~About the PS3 handling it better..don't count on it..I've been keeping up with the launch and things haven't look good..in fact I would call it disastrous in an EPIC f***ing way but I'm sure they'll get their act together within a year.

All fun aside, I simply tremble with anticipation at the thought of all the fun we'll each be having with GoWII.  I certainly hope that the demo can tide us over until then..with only about 2 months between the two I think it might just have a chance where I am concerned.

I make things last much longer than they should...For instance..I managed to use DBZ:Budokai 3 for 2 years as my main game..After making rediculous combos and proving to myself that I had reached the peak of my capabilities..I stopped..hoping for another Budokai but instead received Tenkaichi.  Eternal and I WERE NOT AMUSED...

To add a bit to the topic...I have decided that Medusa's Gaze is best used on Satyrs and Spike Minotaurs..I usually combine it with Artemis (R1 FTW) to devastate on NURs *Yes I am doing another just because I can...I can't remember how many I've done already..3 was it?  Not counting the Tycoonius Spartan NUR or the Normal Kratos Mortal NUR ofcourse.*

True, they are fun..I hope to hear that you have found a desire to use each of the spells for their unique qualities *though I wouldn't exactly vouch for Zeus' Fury due to the seemingly limited amount of versatility it has..it just isn't up to par with some of the more abusable spells is it?*

Killing archers you can't reach is one thing but it was such a small part and was hardly used that it has no significance. I discovered MG's use even in the old union... O RLY?  So we agree about Zf..but you neglected to mention its only real use outside of the "forced areas"..against Ares1 *I trust I don't have to remind you of all people*.

You may have found uses for it...but didn't expand it to the limit...just as I neglected Artemis at one time.  Poseidon's Rage is without contest pre-AoH.  During a NUR it is advisable to just forgot about PR and focus on weapon pwnage *or abuse of Medusa's Gaze where applicable*.  When AoH comes into play..it becomes a maginificent tool against the Hell Satyrs.  I'd say the only time I really like to use PR in a God Mode NUR is against Ares1 near the beginning *all the way to the middle of the fight* of the fight..Using the R1,L1,R1 combo with Artemis before completely evading Hammertime.  I like to unlease AoH and follow up with a R1 to [  ] use of Artemis.  When he starts spewing orbs I release 2 PRs *completely refilling my Magic" and cast another AoH to repeat once more.  After that I change up my strategy for the late game attacks of Ares...opting for the Blades of Chaos near the end.  I've learned to completely avoid most of his attacks using Assension/Dissension *Artemis*..though BoC is the wiser choice I do like to play around quite a bit..That is afterall what got me started with trying to make use of Artemis in a God Mode or tougher environment *my first challenge to myself was to beat the Boss Minotaur with just lvl1 Artemis on God Mode..then I upped the ante by forbidding myself to use the Double Lever Pull exploit or the Left Shoulder exploit and fought him on the ground exclusively..later challenging myself to competantly do the same with Ares*

I guess what I am saying is that I don't like seeing an addition to the game being called "useless"..so I try to prove people wrong even if it would seem that way to me aswell.  I like the way that sounds..I intend to do the same with GoWII..I'm sure you will help me with the task of offering sage advice/tactics/tips for the threads that are bound to happen upon the games release..a stream of "How do I.." or "Need help with.." topics..how quickly I learn to hate each question *as they are remade so often..like "How to beat the God Mode clones".. though I take pleasure in being able to answer the question..I didn't enjoy seeing it time and time again..but it comes with the territory amirite?*

Finally got that homerun thing... I got it with L1+/_\ and immediately another L1+/_\ it's pretty cool but I haven't used it against satyrs yet. Damn it's fun. I can sometimes hit two enemies in the air to two different directions... LOL.Soulxxx

Here are the methods again : I think I'll name them *I might need help with this*

Punt *like American Football*

1. Use a bounce effect and follow up with L1+/  *while they are still in air*

-This works great on all enemies that can be bounced

-The effect AoH produces also presents an opening for this version to be used 

-Excellent in general

TIP: trying to move while performing L1+/  cancels the buffer between Ascension uses making its abuse easier/quicker

2. Launch an enemy with an "Ascension" attack and follow up with a L1+/ hit.

-This works on all enemies that can be launched except Satyrs

-Excellent against Cerberus

Spike *like volleyball*

3. Launch and pursue skyward, (L1+/  *hold /  or press X* ) quickly following up with / .

-Works on all enemies that can be launched *it isn't as reliable for Satyrs but it does work*

-Excellent against Minotaurs

Ofcourse I brought this up *as I did the thread itself* so it could be improved/discussed/elaborated on..I feel that meerly calling them HRE1, HRE2 and HRE3 *HomeRunEffect* just isn't going to work..I require some creative input here. 

The other reason is that I want you to experiment with each of them and see what you *Soul* think about them.  So far it appears that you have experienced the fun aspect of one..just knocking enemies into orbit..not really for strategy but fun...I hope you will find - as I did - that it has practical/useful applications in the game aswell *mostly God Mode NUR specific*.

I'm not sure how to present the information yet...I want to present Artemis Strategies for each monster/boss but I'm just not sure how to do it at the moment..for now I'll just list some info.

Artemis

The "Homerun" effect is where an enemy is sent rocketing up and away from Kratos.  It is unique in that it can knock enemies over invisible walls (Hell Satyr fight)..the types are:

A "bounce effect" can be described as anything similiar to how Plume/Spirit affect enemies.  

A "launched"/airborne enemy is not the same (Ascension)

The "O" ender to Artemis combos creates the perfect bounce.  Its buffer prevents further basic attacks but can be canceled with a roll or L1+face button attack.  Since the [  ], X and O versions aren't terribly useful I'll suggest they are left alone *for beginners*.  Ascension of Artemis (L1+/  ) is the best of its special attacks.  R1 being the best basic attack as it can be stopped at anytime *to block/evade/attack*, hits up to 5 times on a single enemy and a press of [  ], /  or O will end with a ender similar to its special attacks..the downside being that its O ender is as slow as the L1+O attack though it functions like the basic O ender. 

Examples of how to achieve this ender with Artemis.

Artemis has blocking issues..where the Blades of Chaos can block/parry LATE, Artemis tends to FAIL at registering blocks often (especially noticable against Ares).  To make up for this you must get good with evasion (rolling) or learn to anticipate every move made against you in advance and block well ahead of time.

When Artemis is "on", you cannot naturally switch to the BoC in air...but the technique that fuses the Blades with Artemis allows for aerial weapons switching at the price of a little Magic..

The transition/transformation animation made for pulling Artemis out is the reason that the fusion is possible..it is also the reason that combos between it and BoC is not fun or very effective.  It simply takes too long.

A simple infinite for Artemis:

Special Attacks

Wrath of Artemis L1+X

-can be canceled with a press of L2 *requires you to have Magic*

-Not very good

Revenge of Artemis L1+[  ]

-can be canceled with a press of L2 *requires you to have Magic*

-A decent attack damaging all nearby enemies

Ascension of Artemis L1+/  

-can't be canceled once activated but using its ability to "pursue" can be used to evade

-Easily the most useful special attack for Artemis and a favorite of GodModeGOD's..

Retribution of Artemis L1+O

-can't be canceled once activated

-Strong attack that can hit up to 3 times a strike per enemy with the possibility of grappling the enemy *if health is low enough*..not too good..not too bad

~I guess I'll come back and post specifics about the different spells as I did Artemis... basically I'm laying groundwork that can be elaborated on while trying to think of how I can put these into the main posts..I might have to move some information around *I'll take precautions to ensure that none of the information is lost*

I got to play a bit (and I mean a bit) yesterday, so I'm in Hades' Challange. I was in the Arena when I began. Remember that after you get Posie's Trident you have to go underwater to some pit with lots of puppies in it? Well, mr. idiot here (me) forgot to fill his magic bar as a prioroty for this, so I had to hack and slash my way through them. It took me like 7 tries, but DAMN what a feeling. No new Tactics or Tips... except, ofcourse, get to that place with a full magic bar to finish it faster with PR WHORING.Soulxxx

If I had no magic going into that place under God Mode NUR conditions *which wouldn't happen* I would meerly stick with aerial slash attacks from the saftey of the waterhole you start from..steadily working there numbers down to a managable amount (4 at most).

Did you fail to realize that those puppies (like those found in CotG 10) DO NOT WANT to grow up...I thought you would have learned that by now...you can waste all the time you want there and they will NEVER grow up.  Kill them at your own pace and pull the lever.

Consider that spot the opposite of the situation we faced on the roofs above the Architect's final resting place..those puppies were on steroids and morphine..they shouldn't have been able to put up a fight against either of us...they were definately a special case among dogs..

Well, I never spent more than 30 seconds in there before. Either they killed me or I WHORED PR to slaughter them, so I never got the chance to see what happens. ~Yeah, I will. Currently at the Maze of Hades... yknow where you have to kill them all to proceed...Soulxxx

As I expected...

You choose your words most curiously.."where you HAVE to kill them all to proceed"... I wouldn't go that far..sure killing is the main attraction..but know that you don't have to waste time there.  Remember ballofsnow's run?  He used Apollo's Ascension to jump over the door of Hades Sacrifice (through the wall)...I found that there is a way to pull this off despite being in NUR conditions.  Use normal Ascension, quickly follow up with a press of [  ] and immediately make for an Icarus Lift (quick press of X).  Turns out that I only learned of this alternative because of my finding how to climb those two statues in the God of War throne room...and I only did that because I found an alternate way of pulling off my "fusion glitch" which I only discovered because I was bored and I played a lot.  It all started with me being inspired by ballofsnow's Speed Run (I never asked how he did anything..observation was more than enough) and an unknown user who brought up the No Update Run.

~So you don't HAVE to kill ANYONE...but you are free to do what you will...I won't tell

---When I tested Vortex's "skip Harpy Conveyor Belt fight" exploit/glitch I immediatly wanted to go back and complete the fight and found that you can go back to it by simply running back to the first belt *near the entrance*

The Centaurs don't factor here..they are before this trick and that door doesn't allow for this trick.  The door I speak of has an image of a man screaming with the message 'kill everyone to pass'...If you had just practiced the technique when I first told you about it you would have done it the first time here.  It isn't nearly as easy as when you have Apollo's Ascension but it can be done...I should know..I used it on my last NUR.

~The Ascension is to propel us up...the square attack is a buffer cancel...Pressing X allows for a double jump at a height that a normal jump simply can't match. It's a small but crucial difference in total jump height.  Trust me...you've seen me use a few tricks..you know this will work if you keep at it

What exactly should happen?? Am I supposed to just jump over the ceiling or is it a glitch that lets me go through the wall?? I don't really get it...Soulxxx

Just above that door there is a small wall that doesn't have clipping *meaning it is just for show and you can pass through it*.  If done right the Ascension will take you to its level, the quick [  ] attack will erase the buffer that normally wouldn't allow you to double jump at that height and the added Icarus Lift *double jump w/ X* while moving towards the clipless wall above the door will allow you to pass over the door as ballofsnow did in his Speed Run *though he did it the easy way...with Apollo's Ascension...we don't get that luxury*

~It is a real time saver...that area isn't all that fun anyway..I prefer REAL fights like the Harpy Conveyor Belt *its the music...it gets the blood pumping*..

--I'm confidant most of the exploits *the techniques at least* will apply in GoWII so getting them now will aid with finding MOAR in the sequel *which I'm freaking looking foward to*

---After playing the game more than 100 times....I just don't find killing all the low level nothings of that maze worth the effort/time...I'm all about CotGs and Boss Fights for this reason

Freaks that look like gollum before... *j/k* Anyway, I can only say that for the clones, the only fighting I involved was grappling. I may have had some [ ] and /_\ in there, but that was when the situation was real dire.Soulxxx

Here's my list (hopefully i'll post 'em soon in the tactics thread...or should it be the NUR one?)

1-when ALL clones are DOWN: square, square, square, square, square.

2-when away from ALL STANDING clones: square square triangle

3-if one clone is close: square triangle

4-if i'm in a middle of a mess: double jump, triangle, triangle then roll away and follow tip #1

5-if a clone isn't affected with the first square strike, immediatly hold down triangle. that ascension was also usefull in crowds afront.

at the end, i found the grappling mighty usefull since i had really few artemis clones on the field, + they gave me magic/health orbs when smashed

the whole idea of survival; keep YOUR health full, screw kratos' family till they've got almost nothing left. only then, use AoH...i reached the artemis clones without needing to use the AOH

the whole idea of demolition: delay, then toss off.

I have to do CotG8 and CotG10 w/ Artemis again for a refresher on my tactics.  Same goes for my Normal NUR clone fight..which I regrettably saved over...thus I must do another run through Normal..NUR style

~Most of my week is pretty busy and there is trouble on the horizen..

-Dell tried to **** me over..they lost my laptop (thankfully I keep 90% of my stuff on my external harddrive) thus I've lost important files/documents/programs..some I can reload if I dedicate 3 days to reclaim them all..others I cannot replace..

--They neglected to mention the lawsuit against them concerning the laptop I owned..now they owe me money for past repairs, losing my property and the contents of my harddrive.  Their customer support was ****.  I can't stand talking to people like them..I doomed my mother and father to take on those clowns with their lies and logical fallacies.

---At least I am to get a sweet new computer out of all this..first I'll collect the money..then I'll take the ****ty laptop they're offering..then I'll trade it in for a desktop so I'll never had to deal with AC adapters EVER AGAIN
