[QUOTE="kyuss015"]I like Smash Brothers, but I kind of lost interest in the series when the whole competitive edge element came into it.

Competitiion is the most important aspect in not only a fighting game but in any multiplayer game period. Street Fighter Alpha 3 is amazing though. Just picked it up for Dreamcast.
True. But what I am getting at was when the game first came out, only fans of the oringal picked it up. Then the fighting game fans came when and started demonstrating that the game was a lot more deep than originally thought. The whole party thing went out the door when that happened. I couldn't really play the game anymore because I didn't take the time to learn the techniques and as such, ketp losing.
It was more a taste thing. Competition drives multiplayer games, but the nature of fighting game competitions and Smash Bros didn't mix well with me. I saw it happen with Street Fighter 3 and it was ok. But for some reason, I didn't like to see this game be taken to such a level. I don't know how to explain it.
I had the Saturn version of Zero 3, but I had to sell it. I still have the PS2 version which is great too. I wouldn't mind getting the Dreamcast version, if only just to get a copy of the game that has the World Hero Tournament Mode. The PS2 version doesn't have that.

ssb64 also has competitive play.i think its more of the smash 64 fans turning it into a competitive fighter than some bunch of random fighter fans.
If you chose Tekken 3, it because you weren;t hgaming when Tekken 2 came out.
Tekken 2 was the best fighting game, ever.

Please explain, I have yet to hear a good reason for 2 being better than 3.
My reason? Sidestepping, there is no sidestepping in 2, what's the point of having 3D fighting game if you can't move in 3 dimensions?
i think its more of the smash 64 fans turning it into a competitive fighter than some bunch of random fighter fans.
I didn't even know that. I played the game a lot when it first came out. As for who made Melee what it is today, I just assumed it was fighting game fans. I played a lot of Melee back in 2003 and 2004, but stopped for some reason. When I tried to get back into it, the level of competition was clearly beyond what I was doing with it when the game out. I still this game with my buddies because we all don't know the advanced techniques that are used, but I don't play it as often.

To tell you the truth, SSBM is really just a Party game with fighting elements.
its fighting elements are pretty deep and engaging for being "just a party game"SSBM is at heart a Party game with fighting elements. Take away the items and add the MANY restrictions you have in competitive smash you're left with just the fighting elements. Just judging the moves by their nature shows that those weren't intentional by the devs and not only that the fun decreases substantially...
Stop promoting SSBM for the fighting elements. SSBM is a great deal of fun, because it takes away all those restrictions in normal fighting games and adds a bit of luck.
True. but that doesnt make my point wrong "for a party game, it has some deep and engaging fighting mechanics" is what i said, or something on those lines.smash was intended to be a party fighter. true. The gamers exploit some moves which the devs didnt plan in the first place, true. You have to strip away a lot of the excess stuff (i.e. items, unbalance dlevels etc) to get to a core fighter. true.
But once you're there, the fighting mechanics are deep, take much practice to master, and are very entertaining.
I agree with that :)
[QUOTE="Notsogr8one"][QUOTE="TriangleHard"][QUOTE="JPOBS"][QUOTE="TriangleHard"][QUOTE="JPOBS"]Do you know anything about competitive smash? i honestly wont argue with you if you're ignorant of the topic at hand.

Considering it is more of timing and positioning of your character than any deep skills involved, I'd say it is shallow fighting game.
Not to mention the lack of balance of characters and just random things happening in the game.
Certainly not a deep fighting that is measure of skills compared to one and other like Virtua Fighter 5 or Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
exactly. the depth of smash comes from posistioning. however, just because it attains its depth from another aspect than traditional fighters, how does that make it less deep? And what random things happening in the game sir?
ALL fighting games are about positioning. However, other fighting games like Virtua Fighter have other depth, using counters, blocks, skill related combos, precision of the button input, etc.
Also, random things I was talking about was related to items.
If SSMB is deep, so is Ehrgeiz
There are counters, blocks, and even skill related combos in smash. It seems you have not really played it to it's potential.
There is no such things as counters or blocks in Smash. There is Block not Blocks. And there is counter hits yes but counters no.
LMAO.
I wont even wanna explain how wrong u r, just lol
[QUOTE="JPOBS"][QUOTE="Blackbond"][QUOTE="JPOBS"][QUOTE="Blackbond"]what would you call a balanced fighter? The game is not balanced. Period. It is horribly unbalanced.
Blackbond
The King of Fighters
no, what makes King of fighters a balanced game. explain.Um that the characters are for the most part ALL balanced. Unlike characters like Mew Two and Marth.
Yet again u proof that u r a complete noob when it comes to SSBM.
Both mewtwo and marth are used in tournament play.
But noobs think mewtwo = bad, cuz he is slow and "cant do s**t*
Noobs think marth is uberimba cuz he has a very fast smash attack with a long range.
Think again buddy, and plz stop acting like u know the ins and outs of SSBM, its just sad :|

To tell you the truth, SSBM is really just a Party game with fighting elements.
ssbm is alot deeper than most people give it credit for. its true you can play it without knowing much about it, but you'll get owned by anyone who has practiced advanced techs.

I've already discussed it, at heart it's party game with fighting elements. That doesn't take away that the fighting elements are great. It's just not how the devs intented for it to be.

Tekken 2 is what made Tekken what Tekken is today, definitely one of the best game in the entire genre, but Tekken 3 had smoother gameplay, way better graphics and animations, more characters and modes. The only thing Tekken 2 had over Tekken 3 was the music, I still love Tekken 2 though.
[QUOTE="CQCmasta"]I choose Tekken 3, i think i have played about a million matches.TriangleHard
2D? Street Fighter series
3D? Virtua Fighter series
GFT
Virtua Fighter 4 and Tekken 5 are my favorite 3D fighters, with Tekken Tag as honorable mention.
2D my fav is Street Fighter Alpha 3.
3d Virtual FIghter 4 is still the best 3d fighting game out there
2d its a tie between SF:3rd strike and SSBM

No whats sad is that you don't think MewTwo is bad when he is a BOTTOM TIER CHARACTER. And no he is not used in Tournament play. Do not make a fool out of yourself. There was only one good MewTwo player in tourny play that I knew of and he switched over to Marth with claims that MewTwo was holding his overall limits back.
I do the know the ins and outs of Smash as well as pretty much all of the fighting genre as a whole. I've proven to know them through out this whole thread entire thread. WHen yor fighter portfolio matches even a fraction of mine you come let me know. Oh yeah here is that fraction.
Don't you ever dare talk like you know about the fighter genre. Because simply put you know nothing. All you know is one single game.
