Couldn't put it better myself...
not series, just the overall best fighting game, 2D, 3D, they are all fighting games in the end.

It's nearly impossible to divide 2D and 3D fighting games because they play completely different from each other.
It's like comparing NBA 2k7 and Madden 07. They are both sports games, but you simply can't compare them.

Well I have to, because I can't choose between Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and Virtua Fighter 5.
They are peak of fighting games in terms of balance and depth, and I can't even compare them because they are so different.
 at people who say SSBM!
oh and its Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
SpaceDragonMan
Its the closest thing to a 'fighting' game that i like, its just my opinion :(
Tekken Tag >>> Tekken 5:dr >>>>Tekken 3
the greatest figthing game of all time is street fighter 3 :3rd strike
 at people who say SSBM!

Oh were so sorry. Clearly your opinion is more worthwhile than ours :|
And yeah SSBM rocks

Yup, you're damn right!
In my opinion it all boils down to Super Smash Bros Melee vs Street Fighter 2 Turbo. However I give SSBM a slight edge since I have more fun playing and training at that game than in any other fighting game. And with twice as much variation you can't go wrong.
[QUOTE="_Pedro_"][QUOTE="groudyogre"]SSBM anyone?JPOBS
To tell you the truth, SSBM is really just a Party game with fighting elements.
its fighting elements are pretty deep and engaging for being "just a party game"Deep?
Are you making fun of fighting game genre?

And im guessing you consider Tekkens 100 moves per characters is deep when half of them are useless or justoccur from button bashing in general?

Do you know anything about competitive smash? i honestly wont argue with you if you're ignorant of the topic at hand.[QUOTE="TriangleHard"][QUOTE="JPOBS"][QUOTE="_Pedro_"][QUOTE="groudyogre"]SSBM anyone?Meu2k7

Who says Tekken is deep?
If you want deep, go look at Virtua Fighter 5 and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.
The balance, level of strategy, and skills involved is amazing.
Also Tekken does involve more skills and balance than SSMB.

Considering it is more of timing and positioning of your character than any deep skills involved, I'd say it is shallow fighting game.
Not to mention the lack of balance of characters and just random things happening in the game.
Certainly not a deep fighting that is measure of skills compared to one and other like Virtua Fighter 5 or Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

Considering that tournament matches are pretty much all played without items and on symmetrical stages I'd say that takes all the randomness out of it. And if you're good with every character, you'd realize it's pretty damn well balanced. Of course there are 1 or 2 (*cough* game and watch *cough*) characters that aren't.

exactly. the depth of smash comes from posistioning. however, just because it attains its depth from another aspect than traditional fighters, how does that make it less deep? And what random things happening in the game sir?

The game is not balanced. Period. It is horribly unbalanced.

ALL fighting games are about positioning. However, other fighting games like Virtua Fighter have other depth, using counters, blocks, skill related combos, precision of the button input, etc.
Also, random things I was talking about was related to items.
If SSMB is deep, so is Ehrgeiz

There are counters, blocks, and even skill related combos in smash. It seems you have not really played it to it's potential.

How? lol are you serious. Some characters are obviously better then others while other characters are just useless. If you want to know what real balance is then I suggest you play The King of Fighters.
