It will be $499 minimum. I also expect the Neo to cost $499 minimum. The only thing that helps the Scorpio cost is that the parts will be cheaper a year from now. The Neo doesn't have that luxury, but will be out much sooner. I think Sony is better off in the position they're in. The console is hot and their refresh is coming much sooner. The Xbox brand could be in a bad spot by the time the Scorpio launches.

No less than $600. I expect it that much as Neo should be around $450-$500.

Why should it be around $450 - $500? The Neo is not a full blown upgrade. You have the same CPU cores, same amount of ram, but with a beefier GPU. The cost of the Neo's APU is not likely more expensive to manufacture than what the OG PS4's APU cost back in 2013.

Again, you guys need to explain your reasoning for a $500+ price tag, especially for the Neo which has basically the same components as the OG PS4 with the exception of a beefier GPU and 4K Blu-ray player. Do you honestly believe the Neo's BOM is higher than the PS4 was in 2013?

Stop it with facts okay. We all know that GPU is the only component in a console. You Cows are funny with stating facts.

I think having the Xbox One S down around the $300 range will allow Microsoft to release another console at a much higher price for the biggest fans.

If you're spending that much you may as well get a PC that can meet all your gaming needs, offer better game deals (Steam, GOG, G2A, etc...), be more flexible, customizable, and upgradeable, and serve a multitude of functional purposes from social to productivity.

It's easy to say that as someone who knows how great PC gaming is but your average mainstream gamer wants to play on a console and wont even look into buying/building a PC. Scorpio is an opportunity for them to get the "best" hardware and without what they perceive to be the hassle of PC gaming; IME it remains a common misconception that PC gaming is a pain compared to the ease of use of consoles.

Sure the uncomplicated nature of consoles is part of their appeal. But mainly the reason they sell is the price; being significantly cheaper than a PC, and that preference is very often driven by it being cheaper. It's seen as an accessible product, both in cost and technical awareness.

Once that advantage is lost, how is a console justified?

Man, this thing is gonna flop hard.

A "premium product" 6TF console in late 2017 at a time when 6TF will be mid-range in performance. I expect the clowns to price it at $599 at launch and then it will flop out of be gates only to be heavily discounted months later. Bunch of idiots.

LOL @ lems expecting a $399 console.

Yes. After seeing how they handling the Xbone I'd say they still don't have a clue about their market.

They are going to try and forge out a new niche of "premium console players" that doesn't exist.

$599!! A freaking Xb1 with Kincet was $500 and was never called a premium product so I say $599 and your regular XB1 as an entry level console for $250 or $300??

I know this since I'm part of the PC gaming crew but I don't think M$ does lol or maybe they do but they don't care.

They are trying to "innovate" here like they did with the Xbone.

It would have to be notably cheaper than the equivalent PC that will play all the same games! ^_^

I would pay up to $599 for it, seeing as how it's over 4 x as powerful as the Xbone, and almost 3 x as powerful as PS4.

Because Microsoft has an alternative $300 console that plays the same games.

There's nothing wrong with having multiple tiers. What would be the sense behind having a $300 base level model, and a $400 level uber-HD VR-Ready system? They might as well just take the Xbox One S off store shelves at that point while taking huge losses on the $400 Scorpio.

I think they could easily get away with having a $300 base model, and a $700 console for 4K gaming and VR.

It would be suicide if the only Xbox on store shelves was a $700 version though. If MS was planning to only sell the Scorpio then I would not think they could get away selling a $700 product. At that point it'd have to be $400-$500.

Looking at the x1s prices I would think it will be priced to sell. A 4k blu-ray player cost 400 and up alone but MS got it out for 300 with a game. In 2017 the cost for the scorpio's hardware will have dropped considerably.

I would be shocked if it was more than 500. I also think there will be a trade in program similar to what happened when the x1 dropped. Most places gave you 150 and up for a working 360.

I expect close to the $500 range, easily pushing $600. If it ends up being $400 I'd consider trading my old XB1 in, but the likelihood for that price has gotta be nill.

I won't be buying anything over $400, so unfortunately the Scorpio will more than likely not be an option.

Firstly, no price has been announced so the notion that there is damage control can only come from a special folk like yourself.

Secondly when the 360 was released, there was no GPU equivalent on the market for it was the first unified shader GPU on the market. Scorpio would not be sporting new tech. Try harder next time. One of these days you may actually be right. :)

This is why I think it will be 500. They're saying it will be a "premium product" and by 2017 in comparison to its four year old Xbox One, it will of course be a premium product. The Xbox One will on average 300 bucks by then, so paying 200 more for a new machine will make it seem like it's "premium". Also, with a such a powerful machine following the Xbox One, I have no doubt that this will be MS's successor and not just a 4K Xbox One. Because of that, MS will WANT Scorpio to take off and start building an installed base, and history have proven with the PS3 that consoles don't sell at 600 and even at 500, Xbox One was struggling.

A PS console always costs around $1500 because as we all know it comes bundled with a gaming PC so at $1000 this seems a bargain! :P

Doesn't matter I'll buy it. I'm guessing $600-700. Same price as a mid ranged gaming PC.

Cows here can also shut the hell up. If you toolboxes are willing to pay $500 for PSVR and another $300-400 for Neo then complaining about this makes you look kinda like a douche.

That will turn out to be horrible pricing for NEO if they end up the same. Some of the parts that Scorpio is waiting for are set to enter the market sometime in the first quarter next year. There basically within that market window. The same time NEO's parts should be cheaper, perhaps maybe Sony will start out with scorpio price for a greedy profit margin then lower the price when Scorpio launches. Sony better have used that whatever timeout they had to sort their shit with AMD lol. When both systems are out and pricing is the same based on parts and not differences of profit margin, then the NEO is a f***ed up machine weak and no price advantage.

This could turn out to be another f***ed up moment for sony worse is that this time parts are straight forward. Same old Jaguar supposedly instead of getting cheaper to produce. its as expensive as zen, same memory and only polaris is new which is basically amd low end market target gpu architecture.

@SecretPolice: I think MS takes a financial hit per console and matches whatever price Sony puts on the Neo. If they do not match, it won't be more than $100 over the cost of a Neo.

It entirely depends on what Sony prices the Neo at. The higher the cost of the Neo, the more likely MS matches it.

Lets say the console is $800. What's funny is that, unless X game has received a Scorpio patch (even then, its not a guaranteed performance boost. it may only be a 4k patch), the game may be running at the exact same resolution/fps/graphical setting as the Bone. Isn't it funny? You own two pc, one with a gtx560 and one with a gtx1070. Do you wait for a performance boost on the 1070? No, its automatic. On the Scorpio you may never get or simply get the game to run at 4k/30fps instead of 820p/30fps. What if i don't own nor plan on getting a 4k tv/monitor? Can i have 1080p/60fps/maxed settings instead? Cuz you sure af can get that on pc, patch isn't needed.

@kuu2: I don't have an issue with the higher price as long as the value is there, a hardware refresh every few years whether it is a new console or an upgrade, and whether we are talking about 200-300$ or so difference than your usual price, that's not the thing that will hit my wallet hard.

It's the games where I primarily spend most of my money for gaming, and to a lesser extent accessories... that's where I need to be careful with the spending. The other thing that helps with the Scorpio are all the accessories, since the Xbox One stuff will carry over, including my Elite controller, It seems to me I'll be spending little on that front as far as Scorpio is concerned.

Then you'll get the trade-in deals, which do not interest me but I've seen many people jump on the XOne S after they started offering phat-XOne trade in promos. Bottom line is I don't think the high price will be an issue unless it's astronomically high, which I doubt it will be. Anyways, will see when we get more info, too early to tell now....but personally it doesn't worry me.

The more I think about Scorpio the more I think there is no reason for its existence. It's basically a PC with no exclusives, competing with both PS4 and Neo which share the same PS exclusives and PC which has not only a massive back catalog but its own on-going exclusives too.

I don't know why anyone would buy this. They will have to produce a technically stunning console that is much cheaper than a comparable PC for PC gamers to even consider it and even then I doubt they would go anywhere near it since they already have all the same games and their own exclusives too.

PS4/Neo owners won't give a shit because they have multiplats and their own exclusives and if they wanted to switch to PC (which is basically what Scorpio is except with no back catalog and no exclusives) they would have done so already. I honestly don't know who the Scorpio is aimed at. Best hopes for MS with this thing is people buy it as a cheap alternative to playing multiplats at a good spec rather than buying a PC. It just seems plain weird to me.

I am going to say $499 for the Scorpio for the most powerful console ever made.

I bet Neo is going to cost $450 this November.

It's price to me is completely dependent upon the games it brings to the table (there in, the value to justify 'premium pricing').

A lot of gamers were caught up in the PS4 specs initially, that some were buying the PS4 just because it was more powerful. Quickly realizing all they had to play were games like Killzone. Bad.

Lol weren't you the one saying Neo will cost 400$ and that it would be far cheaper than the sum of its parts because Sony buys chips in the thousand, not millions? Weren't you the one saying in 2005, consoles were equal to a high-end PC costing over 1,000$ when people said there was no way the PS4's GPU would match a 980 Ti so it was entirely possible? Now that we're talking about the Xbox you're changing your stance entirely? What a hypocrite.

@tormentos Is very clear but non the less Polaris GPU for $400 with that kind of power would move some to jump, even if they still play more on PC.

@blueinheaven: totally agree with everything you said. If the Scorpio was bringing exclusives to the table then it would be appealing to people who have a PlayStation and a PC, but it seems like it would be more effective to just build a monster PC. The lems sure seem to be salivating over it though...

Not sure why people are getting that excited yet over something that hasn't been officially unveiled though. Im surprised people haven't learned based on history.

At least $600, but I'm expecting closer to $700. "It's a premium product" and no price given by M$...they're preparing everyone. LOL at $499.

If ms releases a console that costs more than 500, I am confident it won't do well. The average consumer will generally buy the cheaper product. Unless MS stamp an apple logo on the machine, I doubt it will sell at a high price point.

Don't delude yourselves by thinking this will cost $600 at launch, when this crap releases you'll only get Xboned more cause 6TFs will be piss all at the end of 2017 yet you'll be paying a premium for a supposedly 'premium' product.
