@tormentos: You don't play any of the current gen consoles so I don't understand why you even care. You seriously need some Prozac.

How much does the Elite controller cost to manufacture? How much are they selling it for?

Considering that's a premium version of the base controller, could we a similar pricing strategy with the Scorpio?

$700-$800.

I think having the Xbox One S down around the $300 range will allow Microsoft to release another console at a much higher price for the biggest fans.

If you're spending that much you may as well get a PC that can meet all your gaming needs, offer better game deals (Steam, GOG, G2A, etc...), be more flexible, customizable, and upgradeable, and serve a multitude of functional purposes from social to productivity.

While I certainly will not disagree with you, the fact remains there are many consumers that wont do it. While a PC is more flexible, upgradeable it also comes with some things that friends of mine hate.

Take for instance my recent problem with Doom 3 BFG on steam. I played it fine one afternoon. Logged off, did some studying, ate dinner. I log back into steam, attempt to fire it up again and get a message like "Cannot start application due to changes to blah blah". I am by no means a computer wiz or even moderately knowledgeable. My neighbor was over and he immediately chimed in with "this is why I don't care for how great PC gaming is. You were just playing this game 3 hours ago. Now you need to search for a solution to why this will not play hours later." It's an annoyance that I don't blame others for wanting to do without.

And yet, the pros of consoles, their "plug n' play" model is more and more rapidly diminishing. As we see more patches and fixes, with an ever increasing occurrence of game bugs and crashes, they're becoming less distanced from PC gaming as far as the stability angle goes.

But my main point is the PRICE argument. Again look at the post I responded to. Consoles have thrived on two main factors; low cost and ease of use (and by extension reliability). If the consumer is paying equally or near equally to a PC, for a device that doesn't offer the same performance or functionality to a PC... and now not even providing the safety of plug n' play with reliability... again what is now the point of a console?

Console's two main advantages are gone, or very very soon will be.

@AdobeArtist: Like I said, I won't argue.

But I still think there is a large segment of consumers that will put up with patches and such because they don't have to search for the fix. On console, it gets released because the game is fuked. Turn on console, let the patch dl and play. Better than needing to know what you're looking for or google, read through issues to find what applies to me.

http://www.gamepur.com/news/23460-massive-ps4-neo-leak-gpu-2x-more-powerful-high-clock-speed-55tf-price-499.html

NEO Option A = 4.2 TF GPU and Jaguar CPU for $399. This is the half gen jump.

NEO Option B = 5.5 TF GPU and better CPU for $499. Scorpio is similar to NEO Option B, but with slightly higher GPU clock speed.

Polaris 10 36 CU at 1200 Mhz yields 5.53 TFLOPS

Polaris 10 36 CU at 1310 Mhz yields 6.04 TFLOPS

BOM are identical.

Both MS and Sony has the same AMD road map.

LOL, you guys are nuts.

NEO will be $399.99 max and Scorpio will be $449.99 max.

@ronvalencia: Sony is not going to change the APU from what was leaked a couple months back. If the APU hits higher than 4.2 TFlops its because they clocked it higher.

This is true. The absolute most it would be is $499. $449 feels to odd of a number and doesn't market well. I don't know what substance some people are on.

@Pedro: If the Neo takes off at a $399.99 price point than the Scorpio can't come out a full year later and $100 more expensive. It would price itself out of competition at $500.

If Neo sales are luke warm then Microsoft might attempt a $449.99 price point, but if Neo is a decent success then I fully expect Microsoft to price the Scorpio at $399.99. People saying $600 are retarded and should never run a business.

$449 would market better than $499 lol. What a silly thing to say. Who the hell would want to pay $50 more for something just so they don't pay an "odd" number?

It needs to be $400 or less for me to even consider it. At $300 I'd definitely get one.

@NathanDrakeSwag: Xbox 360 Elite launched at a $449.99 price point back in 2007 I believe and that SKU seemed to do pretty well.

Extra FLOPS will be wasted without extra memory bandwidth.

I love how cows claim Scorpio has to be in production now in order to prevent shortages, so specs can't be changed, yet Neo can be changed and it's launching sooner than Scorpio. Which is it? If Neo specs can change last minute, via over clock or whatever, Scorpio can do the same. Fact is, Neo will be the weaker console no matter what.

I doubt it's $599. Personally I'm willing to pay 499 euros for it.

Pffft, that's not a problem for Sony, FLOPS are their specialty. lol

Sorry, I just couldn't resist. :P
