• 53:00, he said his notebook could run at 1440p 40fps+, optimization target is 60fps for next-gen.

It was obviously just some PR BS Tim had to say because of the PS5 marketing deal.

Jensen Huang wasn't wrong when he said these notebooks are powerful than next-gen consoles.

Well it's not even that alone, it's just the whole thought behind it. SSD's were a requirement for this generation without a doubt, but both what Microsoft and Sony put in their machines are already overkill for anything that could be thrown at the system.

Sony made the mistake of pushing it too far, there's no need for an SSD that fast when it comes with the understanding that there's no benefit in game or engine design and its only miniscule advantageous use is loading. The money they put into that SSD could have gone to making the machine more powerful, a better CPU, a better GPU, better RAM etc..

Oh it's been obvious to many people, some people just need reminders.

We haven't seen the RT performance of XSX yet. Hell we haven't yet seen the traditional raster performance. He might still be right.

But the resolution wasn't. It was dynamic up to 1440p. So pretty sure, it wouldn't have gone above it.

We already know he's not right, that Gears 5 two week port that wasn't optimized with settings pushed beyond even the PC's maximum settings was running at the same performance profile of a DESKTOP RTX 2080.

Gears 5 wasn't even the most demanding game on PC. It's the same with Forza. Just because they had the same maximum ceiling doesn't mean PC's can't be pushed further but that they held it back. Also, that was a controlled slice for PR. We don't have any third party benchmarks.

No and that's a common misconception. The benchmark they ran was equivalent to PC Ultra preset and performed slightly worse than a 2080. The version with settings exceeding PC ultra was not the one used for the benchmark.

Hadn't considered that. Maybe they capped res to 1440p too? Not sure honestly.

People just read the article about the SX and missed this clear difference in the full DF breakdown. It performed a bit worse than a 2080 at Ultra. Not at Ultra+.

The main talking point is the SSD which would have no influence on the frame rate unless it was unable to load assets in time. It would have the same impact at 30fps as it would at 120fps.

Well even in that case it's a 2 week unoptimized port, also they didn't say it performed worse than a 2080, they said the CPU side of things was a little bit less because of the huge disparity in hardware.

They straight up said it performed nearly as well and that PC has slight advantages like a beefier CPU but as you can see with the results, it's 99.7% GPU bound. Swapping the CPU's would produce no appreciable differences.

Pretty sure anyone believing any info from China (regardless of what it pertains to) these days is not using their head.

@Juub1990: Actually, after seeing the Unreal 5 demo, I'm pretty happy with what PS5 will be able to do. I skipped the mid-gen upgrades so I actually get a generational leap.

May be, may be not. But we do know that demo dropped the resolution in some instances, that means the demo can't run above 30 FPS or 1440p. I have no doubt in my mind that if they tried to increase the fidelity or actual AI/Physics or frame rate we would be looking at sub 1080p.

I was talking about the GPU and to the lesser extent CPU performance in regards to Jensen's claim.

Nope. It's already made the rounds on major gaming/graphics sites. resetera, neogaf, beyond3d and a few others.

This was a demo, showing two of their newest tech at maximum. If the PS5 is running this at 30fps 1440p upscaled. The XsX will do the same, with maybe a few more pixels. But tone some of the features down, mix in baked lighting, use less triangles, both will hit 4k@60fps. But, like I said before, new tech and shiny graphics will be prioritised on consoles compared to high framerates.

It's not a claim, it's a statement from an engineer at Epic and the translation has already been verified by bilingual speakers.

So Jensen Huang was right about about the RTX 2080 Max Q being more powerful than next gen consoles well at least more powerful than the PS5. I wonder how well the demo would perform on a SATA SSD like the Samsung EVO/QVO 860.
