I mean I get the anti-Chinese sentiment, there's reason for it, but this is coming from Epic directly from a series of talks they do in China for University students who want to get into programming and development.

SSD speed like PS5 is helpful, especially those huge scene streaming. Nanite and Virtual Texture is depend on I / O. Do we need such fast SSD so that we can run that demo? In fact if we analyze that, for example at 2K (1440p). Our final goal is that each pixel with one triangle. I assume with two triangle. In fact there are not such many triangles. It means it is MB/S level. It doesn't need such fast SSD like PS5 to run the demo.

You see that? MB/s of data streaming to run that, MEGABYTES, not GIGABYTES...

This SSD nonsense has gotten out of control... I knew the second real talk would come out of the development community light would shine on this whole asinine concept. SSD absolutely makes these things possible, but the level needed to attain it is miniscule in comparison to what the drives are capable of.

Of course they're happy with it, it's coming out from developers with a real time next-generation engine that asset streaming is requiring MB/s of data streaming from the SSD and not GB/s of data vindicating that Microsoft's decision was absolutely the right one.

A drive that is half as fast but far more than is needed which allowed development funds to be diverted into the GPU, CPU and the RAM.

Sony screwed the pooch on this system.
