Me and a friend of mine were having a discussion about Gears 3 yesterday.

Me: How are things going in Gears 3, owning some noobs lately?

He: Yeah, because I have already said it will be my last game this year, I am trying to get pro at it, it has my full focus atm.

Me: What, so you are not going to buy MW3?!

He: Well, of course, but MW3 doesn't count, because it's not a game, but rather a way of life. You always buy CoD.

Do you agree? I thought about what he had said, and came to the conclusion that it may very well be the case in these days.

No. Mostly because Call of Duty is a game. One that I will not be buying.

I do it for pure entertainment. If I'm doing something I don't like or is not entertainment, I better be making money.

I came to think that it's something everyone buys every November since like CoD4. At least on the 360 and PS3, topping charts, online activity and so on... So for most online gamers on the HD consoles, I think it may be a lifestyle, actually. Not to mention the custom-made movies, the billion commentaries on YouTube when people can talk random **** while we watch CoD gameplay...

for the average 18 year old (age which it is legally obtainable here :P) the pub is a far more fitting lifestyle and to be honest far more fun.

I'll gladly take a racing game over CoD any day of the week.

Maybe it's a bit extreme, but approaching it would not be wrong to say. Most gamers on consoles don't play Gears or Halo nowadays. They play COD. One friend of mine even broke up with his girlfriend because she wouldn't let him play CoD (CoD4 times), and I am sure there are many similar cases out there in the online world.

the CoD Lifestyle only consists of being a virgin until Cod eventually dies of milkage,eating junk food that promotes the fact you get double xp from their product, being the "best" at useless skills like no scoping, playing CoD for least 8h a day and mooching the brew and generally never seeing natural light.

All of this can be obtained ob a yearly basis by buying CoD and a lack of any social skills and it can be yours for $59.95 each november..*small print* other costs like map packs that are cut content, and paid for stat tracking and generally useless features are not included.*small print*.

Um no? Starcraft is the only game that can remotely count for the way of life argument with Korea and all, but that is really stretching it.

Depressingly, for some people (*cough*his friend) it does get close to that. And note, that definitely isn't something to brag about. It's bad, really bad. For the remaining, sane population, no, it's a game, like any other. I wouldn't say way of life....more like it's the "cool" thing to play these days because of it's simplicity and getting right back into the action concept \: aaand kids these days like feeling like a 'military soldier badass'....

No. Gaming can be a hobby. An expensive hobby even, but it will never ever be a part of life.

And by the way regarding these groups of CoD fans - their preferance and their obsession with one game doesn't equal a lifest.yle because a lifest.yle is correlated to a person's real world view and attitude towards the values he holds, appropriately being sustainable. I ain't gonna elaborate, but this is basically in general.

For example, Hip Hop is a lifest.yle because its rooted into african american culture (for those old heads that know what i'm talking about), or living a 'green life' is another lifest.yle, or there's lifest.yles based on your surrounding. A lifest.yle is a way of life. Examples of what aren't lifest.yles - being in a war is not a lifest.yle, skiing is not a lifest.yle, playing games is not a lifest.yle.
