I thought the 4890 was slower than the GTX 275 :?. Have the driver revisions given it that much of a boost?

9800gt still isnt bad.. but id start at least looking at other options like its far from being a low-end gpu but its longevity is wearing thin.

next year or end of this year sound pretty smart. and by then the southern islands ( ati hd 5000 series cores with a new architecture possibly going to be labeled the hd 6000 series) will be here and the nvidia mid range will be here ( which i am led to believe will be gtx 200 series rebrands (possibly with a boiled away fermi architecute but i can confirm none of this until june when computex arrives and nvidia puts them on display (along with the gtx 460 (hd 5850 competitor with 5830 specs))).

Before reading more below this section, allow me to commend the person who initiated this Graphics Card Ranking. He is none other than J3r3my. This topic is very useful for us gamers. Let's also thank the people who continued this chart updated. They are NrGx, Astroz, TheSandman and Anth0789. We are not related in any way or another. I just repackaged this topic to help more people about dealing the choice of graphics cards.

Previous thread links to this topic:

... and currently this is the 6th / latest or maybe the alternative...

If you want some graphics cards' rank changed you must provide benchmarks or other evidence to back it up first. Then, let me know where it should be on the list. I will be the one updating the Graphics Cards Ranking List.

These are the brands that are included on the list:

3DFX
ATI -> AMD
Intel
Matrox
Nvidia
S3

Note: Try pressing Ctrl+F in order to find your specific video card faster.

Yours Truly,genemm

I hope you find this very useful and please help us continue this ranking list realistic and updated.

Now, is there anything to be updated?

genemm

You need to update because nvidia released a new card...forgot what its called but its a waste of money none the less, overpriced compared to the 5970 with 3 more fps LOL for like $100-$200

Not a gaming card in the slightest. It can play some old games, but I wouldn't expect anything current gen running on it, well.

HD4670 / 8800GS / 9600GSO / 9600GT / HD5670 are good card for Budget people who can't afford HD5750/5770 and OC IT

btw it would be time to add GTX 470 & 480GTX even tough the BIAS Is high about who strongest for like GTX470 / HD5870 Because it depend of the video game : not 3dmark result :D :

Not a gaming card in the slightest. It can play some old games, but I wouldn't expect anything current gen running on it, well.Luminouslight
i dissagree with this card i run and call of duty modern warfare2 and new games...but the graphics are not to te high

not really

see 5670 is a perfect card for some1 whose budget is around 5.5k to 6k

in some games it beats 9800gt and in some it loses;)

5.5k.. umm im fairly certian if you have that kind of bread you wont be needing a 5670 lol.. pretty sure that 4 card 480 or 5870 territory :p odds are with room for a second machine for moderate amounts of folding :P

perhaps you mena 400 - 550 which would be alot more reasonable.

anyway with some hope powercolor is owrking on a new 5670 on the juniper board. if it works we could safely prop the 5670 over the 9800gt without fail.

Guys. I'm thinking of upgrading my Graphics Card and could do with a few answers.

My current card is a 9800GX2, my CPU is a Q9450 and MOB0 is an Asus P5E3 Intel X38.

The card I'm thinking of getting is the GTX 470, I want to stick with Nvidia because thats what I've always used and never had a problem, but my questions are:

1) Is the GTX 470 the best Nvidia card out there?
2) Will it make much of a difference to the 9800GX2 card I already have?
3) Is it compatible with my current MOBO? (How do you guys know these things? Is there a site regarding compatibility?)
4) Do I need extra fans or can I literally swap cards and thats it?

Guys all answer's would be appreciated.

By the way. when you guys talk about being 8th or 13th what does this mean? and how can I check whatever it is your talking about myself?

Cheers.

1. there are different cards with the gtx 470 and none of them would be the best. the gtx 480 is their fastest gpu. a gtx 295 would be better...
2. which games? most benches don't use the gx2 anymore so it is hard to find benches. :(
5. PCI Express is all you need, yes it is compatible
4. you may literally swap the cards and be done with it.

since you want to stay nVidia, I recommend you go with the Galaxy 470 'cause it runs cooler.

I actually just ordered a eVGA GTX 470 Superclocked+, upgrading from a XFX 9800 GX2. Has anyone got their hands on one of these yet?I have read that they run on average 7 degrees cooler than a normal superclocked 470.

As far as bang for the buck, it seemed pretty reasonable-I play at 1920x1200 and sometimes on my 52" LCD, so having the ability to add another in the future was a big selling point too since I have an nVidia board.

It should be here in 2-3 days, so if no one posts then I will let you know how it's working for me.

I have a question...

I'm probably gonna have to get a new PC soon- so I was wondering- what are the best available graphics cards that are available for under $200? (Or at or just above $200 even)

Depends on your PSU.

A geforce gt 250 would probably fit in that range.

Hey everyone. I have a HD 4770 on my PC right now and when I did some system tests I noticed that I can't play some of the newer games on max settings (except Bioshock 2, for some reason I managed to max or almost max that). Should I start looking for replacements right now? Or is it still ok to last me?

A gtx 470 is a good card and it is cheaper than the 480. The 70 will beat your 9800 gx2 by a long shot: 256 bit ddr 5 memory, direct x 11 support, better clock speed. it will just require more power so hope you have a good power supply. It should be compatible with your motherboard as long as they are both pci express. You might need some extra fans because they run slightly hotter than all the other cards, and it is alot bigger so depending on what case you have it may or may not fit. A full tower case should fit but don't know about mid tower. Now a days it is better to upgrade the gpu instead of a cpu too.
