http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/feb/24/report-ny-mayor-bloomberg-bans-2-liter-sodas-pizza/

for the lazys--

Amid New York Mayor Michael Bloombergs ban on big sodas taking effect in March are some details that may have been overlooked.

The mayors new rules prohibit restaurants from serving or selling soda in containers larger than 16 ounces.

The rules will force consumers to pay more for smaller containers. Under the ban, they would have to buy six 12-ounce cans at an average cost of $7.50 to get an equivalent amount of a $3 2-liter bottle.

Bloomberg is a moron. What good will that possibly do besides causing people to spend more money on the big soda companies. Buying 2 16 liters instead of 1 32.

Yep. I posted in a thread and it was all good, but then a minute later my post magically disappeared and it said (-1) next to the number of new posts.

I feel bad for New York. They should do something like the Boston Tea Party which instead it would be called the New York Cola Party or something.

Bloomberg is a hack.

Don't really expect this law will do much to curb obesity, and don't agree with it regardless.
No one can tell someone else what they can and cannot eat... let alone legislate it.Zeviander
Technically, it legislates what they can buy, not what they can eat (drink).

Of course they can, and they should.

I like my freedom. Which includes deciding what I want to consume.

This isn't going to help obesity. Like the last soda ban people can probably just circumvent it and order two smaller sizes of drinks.

Another mostly pointless law.

I like my freedom and your's as well. That doesn't mean, though, that you should be lawfully allowed to eat whatever you want.

No, but you should be able to consume things that are reasonably. Soda is reasonable.

I agree, that doesn't mean that there shouldn't be restrictions on you choosing what you consume, though.

Why not? An individual should have the choice in the condition of their health. If they want to be unhealthy, let them do so, they will surely face the consequences for it.

"Why not?" Because disallowing people to eat certain things is reasonable and protects the rights of others.

Protects the right of others? How so?

I have some delicious deviled eggs in my fridge right now. They are mine, I plan to eat them tomorrow, I do not want you to eat them. Disallowing you from eating my eggs protects my property rights. Another example, your mom's face. It is reasonable and proper to lawfully disallow me from eating her face. Again, disallowing people to eat certain things is reasonable and protects the rights of others.

I'm talking about the soda specifically. This is a different subject because you are using examples of consuming somebody else's property.

"I'm talking about the soda specifically." This exchange started in response to the comment "No one can tell someone else what they can and cannot eat... let alone legislate it", not the comment "No one can tell someone else that they can and cannot drink soda... let alone legislate it." Try to keep up. "This is a different subject because you are using examples of consuming somebody else's property." I was simply answering your question.

Oh, perhaps that was a miscommunication on my part. Yeah, obviously what we are able too consume should be regulated to some degree, but this is going too far.

He should also ban dessert at every restaraunt in the city.  Dessert is bad for you and I'd prefer that someone make that choice for me.
