[QUOTE="dave123321"]Shadow do you still hold the ideal that you would force your beliefs about gay marriage on others? Or have you altered/evolved that position?dave123321

My position on same sex marriage has not changed. It has nothing to do with forcing my beliefs, simply standing by the values that I hold firm. Why would internet trolls on GS change my mind?

And yes I'm aware that my preferred politician John Huntsman endorses it now. That's his business to do what he feels is important and I still endorse him, I do however disagree with his position on it.

I'm not a homophob in the slightest, I wish left-wingers would stop demonizing people because they have a different opinion than they do. I don't call pro-choice people baby killers.

I wouldn't pay the trolls no nevermind, but a lot of nontrolls weighed in. So not an issue of listening to trolls or not, but being open to other arguments. So dismissing OT as Internet trolls is not for the best. I think the main issue that people have is that you said that you were willing to vote in a way that would keep marriage between a man and a woman. That would be imposing your beliefs on others. Another option is to abstain from voting on the issue. That way you are not supporting it, but at the same time you are not letting your views dictate what marriage is. I wish the far left would stop foaming at the mouth. Also wish that you evaluate who you are as a person.

He voted against it last November, so he's pushing his view on others. But to be fair, if gay marriage was an issue in my country (hasn't been since we legalised it in 2001), I would've voted for so that would also be pushing views on others.

Yeah, agreed, that would be certainly worse. Guess it could be argued that forcing something you dislike to be legal is "pushing your view" as well, which is what I tried to anticipate with that comment.

I think the mayor just doesnt like the metric system.  I dont see him banning any gallons.

Rich3232

i wonder if that's a loophole that they can use.

Looks like they put the ban in effect in ounces. "Containers larger than 16 oz.", if memory serves.

I'm telling you... if I was in charge of a store within an hour's drive of NYC, I'd be tripling my soda inventory and marking it up by a nickel an ounce. Watch the profits roll in.

This law doesn't hurt businesses as much as it hurts consumers. The mark up on 16 ounce sodas were already insane compared to the larger counterparts.

Eh buying soda with pizza is generally an awful deal, so I doubt many people care. Still really weird thing to do though.

is it way cheaper? lets see, going to the store requires driving (for some people like myself) and that wastes gas, gas is expensive in NYC. whats more expensive that gas prices? my time, why walk to the store when i can have someone getting paid, to deliver me some. thats the key here. so not only am i wasting time going to the store, ill waste energy, fuel, etc.

I'm not saying it's a good idea for this to be banned, in fact I think it's really dumb. I'm just saying if you buy soda while at the store you'll pay 30-50% what you would pay for delivery.

It's not just 2 litres. It's every container above 16 oz.

Somehow, he believes that limiting the serving size of the containers will magically make people thin... sort of like how he believed that jacking the tax rate up on cigarettes would make smokers magically quit (as an ex-smoker himself, he should damned well know better).

The fact that this is a big deal for some is more firghtening than the actual ban.

Get a grip, y'all.  It's f*ckin' soda.

InEMplease

Oh, it's just the latest in Bloomberg's chain of insanity.

He has just about banned smoking in NYC. It's not illegal to smoke in NYC... but it's practically impossible to find a place to smoke.

The ink was barely dry on the trans-fat studies when he banned them from the city.

There are very good reasons why I don't live in NYC. Most of them are Mayor Bloomberg.

No, to an extent.  Things obviously harmful to me I:

a) Do not willfully partake in

b) Would not care if they are banned.

Not everyone is as equanimous about their freedom to choose being stomped on. In fact, some of us down-right resent it.

What are you talking about? Marijuana is labeled as an illegal drug, at least in the US.
