Quackshot was great for its time too.

Aladdin was, buuuuut.......... have you tried going back and playing Aladdin? Time has not been kind.

What was that mickey mouse SNES game the one where you could change into different outfits, that was class too.

Oh and Cybernator..............oh my god what a game.

Phantom_Leo

Are you referring to this:

It's The Magical Quest, Starring Mickey Mouse by Capcom!

I have that on the gba and the sequel too. I had it on the SNES. There's something about having these games to play full screen on a normal tv vs a tiny gba screen. Goldenaxe for instance I have on gba but its nowhere near as fun as its going to be in 2 player with my bro on the big screen like we did all those years ago.

Unless I entirely missed it, I don't think anyone brought up River City Ransom in this topic yet!

Why not throw in for good measure then...

Super Dodge Ball (from the same developer)...

and

Renegade (Cool and nasty, beat 'em while they are down gameplay!)

One thing I remember from that game (I believe)...

You were attacked by pretty big women in the game.

You could knock them to the ground (like any other enemy) and then pummel them senseless...

Then, Final Fight comes along on the SNES and they took women out of THAT game entirely, saying games that depict women being beaten up are wrong...

Thinking back to Renegade at that time, I was just like: " OOOOKKKKKKAAAAAYYYYYYYYY ! ! ! "

Renegade was a pretty major hit in Europe, far from a sleeper hit. All arcades had it, and all 8bit home conversions were big news.

Huh, I had no idea! It was relatively unknown in the US (as you can see by the near non-existence of it in this topic)...

I guess Renegade was to Europe what Double Dragon was to the US?

(Or was that big there too?)

[QUOTE="revelations"]I come on here constantly and mention Vectorman 1&2. Those were platformers that didnt get the credit they deserve. Luckily I have Sonic Gems so its all good, but still.Phantom_Leo

AND, they have been recently re-released on the Sega Genesis Collection, I might add.

Sega knows there are VM fans out there. Too bad about the cancellation of the PS2 version. Who knows though, if the collection sells well OR if people buy enough of one particular VC release, maybe we'll see old franchises brought back from the dead!

Yea we'll see. Its a game that just seems PRIMED for a remake.

*That is a Metal Gear in the passenger seat in the first pic.

Imagine playing IT again! You could even use the Wii-Mote in the Lightgun sequences!

I would do anything or anyone to get this game released in the US again!

I'd love to see the original Gunstar Heroes and Guardian Heroes released on Virtual Console, if I EVER get a Wii.  I love Gunstar Super Heroes.  Haven't played Advance Guardian Heroes, but I've heard it isn't very good.  RCR would be a great fit on the Wii.  And if Contra isn't on Virtual Console yet, by all means, it NEEDS to be!!

I haven't played most of these games even, but I'd love to play Contra.

That's exactly what Alien Soldier is, one Big Boss Orgy.  The stages are extremely short and at the end of each stage you get to fight a unique boss, no clones. (At least I didn't notice any)  If I remember correctly, I believe that there are 25+  stages.   The game play is a lot like Gunstar Heroes, you even have the same weapons.

Speaking of Treasure, Mischief Makers would be an awesome addition to the VC.

If Sega CD ever did make its way onto the Virtual Console, I'd love to be able to play this game again:

I know it wasn't exclusive to Sega CD but it was one of the few worthwile purchases I ever made for the damn thing. Good times, good memories.

EDIT: The mystery game was Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective. I hate screenshots.

I would welcome MM, but probably wouldn't download it. I played it on N64 and enjoyed it. Any exposure for Treasure is good for the whole industry, imo.

... BUT, what I REALLY want is Sin and Punishment! It looks awesome, has an incredible fan following, and we never got a chance to play it in the US...

A little Bangai-O wouldn't hurt either!

But, honestly, to expect THAT much gaming goodness to come out of the VC:

God, I love Treasure!

In case you haven't heard already. GunStar Heroes will be available on Monday, December 11th in the U.S. for the VC!

Good luck getting a Wii, and even if you are not in the US, by the time you get one, GH should be waiting for you when you do!

The aircraft carrier stage *pictured above* is the most insane shoot em' up experience I have ever had.  One must play it in order too appreciate the brilliance of that stage.   Sin and Punishment is the only reason my N64 stays connected.:D

Bangai-O is possible but, only if Nintendo allows the following;  down loadable Dream Cast games or down loadable N64 Japanese games.  Since Bangai-O is originally a N64 game.

That Snatcher, I think any MG fan knows about this game.  Never played it, heard great things about it.  The Sega CD better make its way into the VC.

The rumour is that SUDA 51 and Kojima are working on a game for Wii and that game is related to Snatcher as SUDA is a big fan, apparently its the game that made him become a game designer.

Hmmm... Suda 51 of Killer 7 fame? :?

Don't get me wrong... I love the art style and uniqueness of the game... but it was a little bit out there...

I would do anything for a new Snatcher, but I would love to see Kojima himself at the helm...

To be honest (and, no offense Vader, I know you are very excited about Heroes)... I haven't given it a second glance YET because of my mixed emotions on Killer...

We'll see... Maybe Suda will turn me around! After all (obviously) I'm an old-school gamer in a next-gen world! You normally have to drag me kicking and screaming into the "next big thing."

**SPOILERS**

...

...

...

Without spoiling too much...

...even though, really, if you haven't heard of THIS by now, you've probably  never even heard of an NES...

In reference to one of the games mentioned on this page, this had to be one of the first, most shocking, WTF moments in videogaming history!

Taken a few minutes before YET ANOTHER, ultra-gory (by NES standards), WTF moments in vg history!

This BETTER remain intact once the (hopefully) inevitable release of the VC version happens!

Hate to be the one to break it to you, but you'll never see Super Punch Out on PS2 or any other non-Nintendo console.

While I am absolutely sure we'll see one or two of the Punch Outs on the VC soon, it REALLY needs to have a full Wii update. Wii Sports Boxing was just a cruel tease.

Punch Out (Wii) will OWN ALL ! ! !

In the meantime, stare on lovingly...

Man, you're right... I forgot it was made by Nintendo and not by a third-party studio. I should have known, I still play it sometimes ! Anyone still have a SNES console here, and like to play an old game from time to time ? I bought a used copy of Final Fight 2 for my SNES just to replay it one more time... it took me about 1 hour to beat the game... 15$ for 1 hour !!! Anyways, I'm glad to see someone else who remembers Super Punch-Out. And yeah, a new Punch-Out for the Wii would be cool.

Chadley10

I just finished reading all of the posts and I was about to mention Gemfire.  I remember really enjoying that game with my friends.

You guys have pretty well covered the list I can think of, but here are a few I remember playing when I was younger which may or may not live up to their contemporaries:

  1. Magic of Scheherezade (NES) - sure its a semi-Zelda knock off but it was really well done
  2. Sky Shark (NES) - I always enjoyed it but it was pretty hard
  3. Ultima Exodus (NES) - I love the Ultima series and I liked the NES version of U3 better than any other
  4. Joe & Mac (NES) - really surprised no one mentioned this game because it was pure fun
  5. Lion King (GEN) - easily one of the best Disney/Virgin games ever made
  6. Spy vs. Spy (NES) - good old multiplayer fun

I'm sure there is more, but its my start till I get a chance to go home and look at the collection for ideas.

I'm also going to go real old school.  Most of these would take some work to emulate for a console, but even getting to see them again for the PC would be cool:

  1. Utopia (ATARI) - This was an old multiplayer strategy game.  Two players each had their own continents and vied for common resources and economic power.  You could sabotage each other too.  It was very simple but very fun.
  2. Bard's Tale (C64) - Already mentioned but worth mentioning again.  An NES version was also done and it would suffice.
  3. Legend of Blacksilver (C64) - This was a spiritual successor to the more popular and better known Legacy of the Ancients.
  4. Seven Cities of Gold (C64) - Excellent colonial strategy game from way back.
  5. Montezuma's Revenge (APL2) - I spent countless hours mastering this game when I was about 4 years old.
  6. Karateka (APL2) - Always got my butt kicked but it was still fun.
  7. Beachhead (APL2) - I thought the recent arcade update Beachhead 2000 with a fully rotating "turret screen" was a good concept.  Needed hugely better graphics though.
  8. Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of Destiny, Duke Nukem 3D, Samurai Warrior (PC) - Although not sleepers, all of these would be nice to have as newer compatible releases for XBox Live Arcade.

I'll keep thinking of stuff, but I just thought I'd throw in some really old stuff which weren't likely to be mentioned.

Wow! Joe and Mac! There's one I almost completely forgot about!

Bright, colorful graphics. Typical of SNES. BUT, the game was painfully short and easy. Brings back good memories though!

(...As do your PC sleepers. Seven Cities of Gold. Karateka. Montezumas Revenge... Don't even go there! You'll make this topic go from the 200's to the 2000's... Hmmm... Miner 2049. M.U.L.E. Bruce Lee. B.C. the Quest for Tires... Ugghhh... No! Must resist!)

I'm trying to keep this topic to the VC (Wii Virtual Console) potentials... I could go on for months about Pre-NES--Atari/C64--2600--ColecoVision--Intellivision era!

Just got home from a full day of being out.

Walked in the door.

Headed straight to my bedroom.

Flicked on the Wii.

Downloaded GunStar Heroes.

Downloaded Alien Crush.

Walked out of my room.

Took off my jacket.

Pooped.

Ate my dinner.

Checked these forums for updates on my posts.

--Now they say in the psychological make-up of man, there are certain NEEDS that need to be fulfilled in order of priority. I believe Safety is number one. Eating is number 2. Physiological Functions like relieving oneself and sex next... and so on and so on...
