hard too ... i liked the shop/rpg elements even when i was little... i remember watching an older guy from the area play the boss battles with the stupid questions about food that equalled instant death... lol silly
and wonderboy with the hammer throwing and skateboard? i forget the names now but that was hard too... but fun
i consider them classics but yeah no one seems to mention them much... except the one with the animal transformations which i never had the chance to play
i would say mention the alex kidd games but im not sure id be too happy paying for them... the first alex kidd game shouldve been for free with the console lol
"...and wonderboy with the hammer throwing and skateboard? i forget the names now but that was hard too... but fun..."
You can call it either Adventure Island or WonderBoy and you wouldn't be wrong!
I think Sega got the rights to do the first WB game on the Master System and then took it and went the Action-RPG route with it in the Monster World games after...
Then, TG-16 had the last WB game I am aware of in The Dragon's Curse.
Here's some memories for ya Mike...
WonderBoy in his last appearance on Genesis.
Dragon's Curse on TG-16...

...BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE...!? YES THERE WAS A "Monster World 4!"
[QUOTE="yomi_basic"]Has anyone mentioned Shadow of Destiny? Sweet game that flew way under the radar.King9999Definitely a great game. More of you need to play Culdcept for the PS2. Konami, can we please have Rondo of Blood already??
Oh yeah I really enjoyed that game Shadow of Destiny.
I never played Culdcept for the PS2 since I never really knew anything about it but I did check out the Culdcept game being made on the 360 and found it to look quite interesting and am looking forward to checking it out.
Yes I also wish they would release Rondo over here too since I'm an huge Castlevania fan and have never played this game yet. Iga said there was something special in store for Castlevania's 20th anniversary but still no word on anything yet. What gives?
Am I the only person who loved Cool Spot? I still own it, and it's one of my personal favorites!
I love Warsong! I think I actually rented it twice, before I had even heard of Shining Force.
I can't beleive that nobody mentioned Landstalker, and Alisia Dragoon!!! Those are two of my favorites. Landstalker is actually, to this day, still my favorite game of all time.
Also:
Jurassic Park (Gen)
Trog
Yo Noid
Dino Riki
Power Blade
Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout
Dig Dug 2
Little Nemo
It's too bad that some old games have virtually no chance of ever being re-released, because of licensing problems. That's why I'll probably always want to have my old consoles, even if most of these old games are made available again
Stunt Race FX, eh? Great game. Along with Vortex, these were the two best FX titles IMO.this would be about as unlikely as you get but...
street fighter alpha 2 was released on the snes...
stunt race fx was a great game tooo

This one without a doubt. God I love this game.
Also, Donkey Kong Country 2 is extreamly underrated. THE best platform game ever made.
I would also love to see this game again!

King Arthur's World.............man I forgot all about that one, good call :DÂ Zombies ate my Neighbors I cam so close to beating.........I think that last boss has infinite health.
I'd also love to see Dragon Warrior IV make the cut. That game is definately not a sleeper in Japan, but it's a shame that not many people got a chance to play it here in the states.
Bubsy ftwalexgangur
Although, technically they could do it, Do you really think Sega wants people to remember the Menacer?
I think we should be thankful when we finally get Toe-Jam and Earl and let Ready, Aim, Tomatoes fade into obscurity...
Dizzy? The egg-guy, platforming game? Never had the urge to try it... It was really worthwhile...? Huh...
Finally, Dragon Warrior 4--What can I say? Masterful story-telling. I love the way they broke it down into chapters, told everyone's stories, and then brought them all together in the end. I played and finished it when it was originally out, but would MOST DEFINITELY play it again, given the opportunity!
It takes a real GAMER to stand up to a world full of GTA's and Gears Of Wars and shout:
"I PLAYED AND FINISHED CASTLE OF ILLUSION, STARRING MICKEY MOUSE, AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT ! ! ! YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT ? ? ?"

i played this one on the game gear... hard... or maybe i was just not very good lol
also the megadrive had some gooood rpgs... someone already mentioned landstalker
i wish we could get secret of mana 2... but then we would need an official translation... i think that wont happen though
"i wish we could get secret of mana 2... but then we would need an official translation... i think that wont happen though"
I would wish that too, BUT, I think the VC is a pure-PROFIT-driven idea. If Nintendo can re-release games and have people pay whatever amount for them without them having to pay for translation, localization, marketing, etc, etc, etc... I think that's the idea behind it.
I wold expect games to go from Europe to the US and vice-versa, but Japan to US or Europe, probably not. If they have to pay to do ANY work on it, I think they would probably choose not to.
Not to say that a company wouldn't want to do a DS port (of Mana, for example) but then we would be paying the full 34.99 or so for it.
I've heard sooo much about Mana 2, I would LOVE to see it, too, but the odds are against us here.
This isn't exactly an old game, but it screams to be redone on the Wii! I would LOVE a little Samba De Amigo right about now. And, yes, I was one of the crazy people to buy the game and TWO sets of maracas. They were rare and hard to get that X-Mas time, but I got 'em and they got as much use as my Wii-motes are getting now!Â
Anybody recognize these GREAT, SLEEPER Genesis titles?
God, do I miss 2D, sprite graphics! Thank God for Konami and Portrait of Ruin... That's what I am going to open and play as soon as I hit this submit button!
I'm more of an Aladdin MAN myself. :Pnopalversion
It saddens and baffles me WHY in this day and age (probably has to do with polygon vs sprite graphics) developers can't make a game so smooth and flowing, animation wise, as Aladdin on Genesis...?!?
The last game to be well animated in the modern-console age was probably Symphony of the Night on the PlayStation!
If one thing comes out of the Virtual Console, I would love to see a resurgance of artistic, animated, sprite-driven, 2D games!!! I know they are more time-consuming than polygons, but dammit, If Konami can afford to do it, why not someone else!!!???
Quackshot was great for its time too.
Aladdin was, buuuuut.......... have you tried going back and playing Aladdin? Time has not been kind.
What was that mickey mouse SNES game the one where you could change into different outfits, that was class too.
Oh and Cybernator..............oh my god what a game.
Until now, I had no idea that Cybernator and Target: Earth were from the same series in Japan...
 Cybernator
 Its sequal: Metal Warriors
 Its prequal: Target: Earth
...Looking at them now, how could I not? I guess back in the day, I couldn't comprehend games could be on both Genesis and Nintendo and be related somehow...
I actually imported Target: Earth from Japan. (Assault Suit Leynos, was the name I believe)...
I don't think there was a more challenging game available on the Genesis!

Are you referring to this:
It's The Magical Quest, Starring Mickey Mouse by Capcom!
Other GREAT character games from the 16-Bit age:
 Bugs Bunny: Rabbit Rampage
 Daffy Duck: The Marvin Missions
And how about this guy?
This generation needs a new Taz game!

Last Hope
Trigger Heart Exelica
There is plenty of awesome new 2D games, it's just that you have to import to get your fix!
Back on topic,
Mars Matrix
Gun Bird 1 & 2
Giga Wing 1 & 2
Cannon Spike
Under Defeat.
Â
Man the VC is moving at too slow a pace, its going to take forvere to get to some of the games in this thread. Â
BTW any word on Monday's games yet? I'm assuming Toe Jam or Gunstar Heroes, I'll buy either one.
dvader654
I don't think Nintendo has announced them yet. I'll post as soon as I hear!
That's Ranger X.
Spirit_of_87
Yeah, it kinda does SAY that in the lower left hand corner of the screen... (And I really didn't think there was anyone who wouldn't recognize Batman)... I guess the question was more rhetorical than anything else...
I wonder if they would consider porting DreamCast games to Wii? Those shooters looked HOT and all the others you mentioned would be just as welcome!
I can't believe how much developers are dead set AGAINST bringing shooters to the US!
( I also can't believe the utter irony of your level name, either! :P )
