I have the latest microsoft office but rarely use it.... I was a poor student that got used to open office and find it too hard to change...... but I am making a little progress. Funny how colleges sometimes hand office out like candy and sometimes give you at most a $20 discount........

It can't still be good if it never was to begin with. Even M$ admitted it was a disaster and poured tons of money into windows 7 to get it out the door.

I agree with blazn.... Nintendo is really the pos in this whole equation. But back on topic, getting a solid pc now will allow you to play the next gen's game half way decent... so pc?

4. What are you talking about, pcs and gaming pcs are as strong as ever?

Just bored and wanted to dive deeper into the future state of pcs and gaming pc in partcular.

Stick on ebay and see what happens as a whole, however it would be better to prob part it out let it go. Computer parts lose their value way to soon, my 460 is already only worth $120 or so on ebay, and lcds have really dropped in price. Even my expensive motherboard has been overshadowed by the top of the line version (that was like $100 more than mine two years ago) and isn't worth much of all. The only thing that has held up its value is my X6... and that is only because bulldozer was garbage. Yet I can still stick my one year macbook pro and get most of my money back... I am starting to think apple is the way to go with laptops.... Sure they cost more, but you get most of that extra back when you sell it, plus build quality and the os is really good.

Nope I unplug things that use electricity before I open them up.:P

This,

Unless you mean wearing a woolen jumper and rubbing your feet on carpet for ages, then touching someone.

Capacitors can hold power for hours and hours... by xbox was unplugged for at least ten mins haha.

In my opinion yes, assuming he isn't going to be a massive multi-tasker or has plans to upgrade his video card soon. Although if you go this route make sure you get a motherboard that could support an upgraded quad core later down the road. I would look at the project as a two step process: Either replace the cpu later or the gpu, but focus on what is important to him now and put money into hardware the supports that early on.

I have never been shocked while working on my pc, but I received a huge shock from a couple of capacitors on my original xbox 6 or 7 years ago (prob the worst shock I ever received) and it almost knocked me over haha. Other than that big one, the only other shocks I have received were from a small capacitor on an old tv while trying to repair it. Anyone else have an interesting experience?

Better to lose cpu power than gpu power.... in honesty once the hard drive is fragmented and you get a virus or two most dual and quad cpus are the same for general stuff. Sure we don't like to admit it.... but it is the truth. Of course in a game things change, but that is where the gpu becomes the biggest limiting factor.
