Wasn't trying to insult or anything, just that some of the titles you consider bad are praised by basically everyone (gamers and reviewers).

Don't worry, it's not that easy to insult me. I admit - I'm in the minority on this one, but I just simply didn't like those games, even despite their overall praise and acclaim.

As for more recommendations:

Vampire The Masquerade (not Bloodlines)

Baldurs Gate

Icewind Dale

Those are kinda... random. I'm not really sure they even fit any of my criteria. Not like I'm gonna strictly check if the recommendation precisely meets all of them, but they should at least fit what I'm looking for. Unless I'm wrong and they actually fit somehow, then correct me.

You have a very strange taste then, lol......

I prefer the term "good". Seriously, though, just because I don't find something popular good, doesn't mean I have strange taste. I just have my own taste and you have your own.

"To The Moon"

Ignore the graphics.

I don't care about graphics, but honestly I found To The Moon tedious. I couldn't just get invested into this game, when all I did was reading some 16-bit JRPG-style dialogue boxes and reconstructing notes (which proved extremely frustrating). I never got to finishing it, but I don't think I want to have a second shot at it.

Btw, I can't believe you consider games like The Last of Us, Bioshoch and Fahrenheit bad.

You better start believing, then.

So, recently I started playing Life is Strange and it easily became one of my favourite story-heavy, pseudo-adventure games of all time. However, I bought the game at a pretty bad time, since I'm already done with the 4 episodes that are out already, and now I'll have to wait an undetermined amount of time for the final episode to come out and the story to finally reach its end. Can you recommend something for PC that's similar to occupy myself till the fifth episode comes out? Here's what I'm looking for:

  • Dark, depressing, emotional story. Preferably something relatable to boot. Nothing pretentious, though. (look below for a list of examples)
  • Lots of dialogues.
  • Believable, well-written characters with lots of personality.
  • Relatively easy and, what's more important, logical puzzles. I'm not gonna lie - I'm a total retard when it comes to that stuff, but still can solve it if it's logical in its design. Most of the stuff in LiS didn't pose any challenge for me because of that (I had to look into a walkthrough only once, and that was only because I completely forgot that cheating your way through by using time travel is a legitimate way of solving things in this game; not sure if that's proving anything or not). It's only going to make it frustrating for me if the puzzles are designed around "moon logic" (or "LucasArts" logic, if you will). If you can't think of anything that's easy enough for someone like me, you can throw in something slightly harder, as long as it's still logical - I can juggle some walkthroughs, as long as the story's worth it.
  • Not a horror game. I'm simply scared of this genre and don't really feel like playing something that could potentially make me have a heart attack. Fortunately, what I consider horror is exclusively stuff with extreme nightmare, like the Silent Hill games, Amnesia, and the like of them. I don't mind (and even welcome) dark atmosphere, gore, violence, nudity, sexuality, shocking moments, breaking taboos, or some brief horror-esque sections. I just don't want the game that focuses on scaring me in its entirety.
  • If the game is anything episodic, it has to be finished (all of the episodes have to be already released). I don't want to fall into an infinite loop of making threads named "suggest something to play while I wait for another episode of x to come out".
  • Not an RPG. Or if you have to suggest an RPG, then make it something more linear in structure, without stuff like open world and Elder Scrolls-esque amount of sidequests. I'm not really in the mood for that level of engagement. Avoid isometric ones, though - they're not really my thing and I find them tedious to play for the most part.
  • [OPTIONAL] Moral choices. I know that not every game has that, therefore it's optional, but I'd very much prefer a game where I have some degree of control over the story. I'm only accepting games with gray morality, though - I hate binary, "black & white" morality, where the only choice I have is whether to be a saint or a total dick.
  • Please avoid recommending extremely old games. I don't have anything against them, and you're free to recommend them if they're working fine on modern machines, but I really don't want to sit there looking for potential solutions and workarounds to problems even GoG programmers couldn't fix.

As for the gameplay part, it doesn't need to have this Telltale-like formula - it can be a regular point n' click adventure game, or an action adventure game, or whatever else, as long as it meets the criteria.

And here are the promised examples.

Popular games praised for their story/writing that I also consider very good (apart from LiS of course):

  • Silent Hill 2
  • The Walking Dead
  • Fallout series (save for Fallout 3 and all the spin-offs like Fallout Tactics)
  • The Witcher series
  • Portal 1 & 2 (nothing really deep in those, but you sure can't blame them for lack of creativity in writing)
  • Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Popular games praised for their writing/story that I don't consider good and/or consider them pretentious:

  • Gone Home
  • The Last of Us
  • Bioshock Infinite
  • The Cat Lady
  • Everything by Bioware
  • Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy

You can ask why I liked/disliked certain games to get a better view of my tastes.

Don't suggest:

  • The Wolf Among Us. I've played it already, but didn't like it that much - the whole neo-noir theme didn't click with me.
  • Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines. I can't get over how clunky it is and force myself to play it.
  • Planescape: Torment. Yes, I get it - the best story ever written and all that jazz. Isometric RPGs aren't really my thing, though. Even though I appreciated Fallout for the wonderful story and setting, it still was a slog for me to get through the classic games.
  • The Longest Journey. I've heard it fits somewhat, but I'm afraid it might be much too hardcore for me in terms of puzzles.

My PC specs:

  • AMD Athlon II X4 2.8GHz
  • 4GB RAM
  • AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB
  • Windows 7

That'll be all, I think. Thanks in advance for helping me out.

@fatalscorpion

It doesn't really fit what I'm looking for. It's a comedic game with dark humor and tons of rock scene references, while what I'm searching for is a really dark, super serious almost-horror (or "light" horror).

@Jr14 It comes out for PC in more than half a year, though, while I'm looking for something to play now.:

You don't really have much choice on PC sadly.

I seriously refuse to believe that among thousands and thousands of games there really is so few games fitting the criteria I'm looking for.

@saintsatan said:

If you don't mind old school games you can check out Nightmare Creatures, Call of Cthulhu, and Soul Reaver. All of those are heavily gothic and Lovecraftian.

Most of them are pretty obsolete gameplay-wise and/or are nigh-impossible to run on modern systems, but at least they fit, so thanks, I guess.

My recommendations are as follows.

-Dark souls 2 scholar of the first sin

-Lords of the fallen

-The witcher 3

I've played the standard edition of DS2 and didn't like it at all, so I reckon I wouldn't like the re-release either. Also I don't know what it has to do with Bloodborne in terms of atmosphere - DS2 is basically high fantasy. For the latter two games, my PC is too weak.

So, here I am, once again asking you for help in finding a game similar to another game. Let's hope you will be willing and able to help me.

Anyways, since the release (and even some time before that) of Bloodborne, I've been itching to play it. However, since I don't own a PS4, I won't be able to, so I have to look for alternatives. Can you suggest any games for the MasterRaceStation I can play instead to fill the void in my heart that's been constantly widening with each passing day?

The ideal option would be a carbon copy, but I know that's not possible. The closest thing to a carbon copy would be Dark Souls (although not completely - Bloodborne is way faster and closer to being a hack n' slash game rather than a copy of Dark Souls), methinks, but I don't really see myself wanting to do a 3rd playthrough of it, especially since I already know this game through and through. What I like about Bloodborne the most, though, is its atmosphere, so let's say it should be the main focus when choosing what game to recommend. I really like its constant dark, brutal, and pessimistic feel, From's take on Lovecraftian/Eldtrich horror, as well as the artstyle that's the epitome of Gothic.

As for the gameplay part, I'm pretty flexible about it, as long as it's something resembling an action or an action-adventure game. The thing I don't want is to be completely defenseless against the enemies the game throws at me, so games like Amnesia aren't really something I'd like to play.

Here are my specs. I think it's time I started including them in my every thread about game recommendations, considering the sudden and rapid growth in games' system requirements:

  • AMD Athlon II X4 2.8GHz
  • 4GB RAM
  • AMD Radeon HD 7770 1GB
  • Win7 Ultimate

I think that's all there's to say. I hope you can help me out on this one. Thanks in advance.
