if you don't like Earthbound then you're not gonna like Undertale. Its appeal comes from the fact that it is quirky and old-school but the game's way overrated though. People just tend to overrate anything indie and even more so with this game since it's basically a tribute to Earthbound, a game that has a following that is almost like a cult ala Star Citizen.

Why did I have a feeling this was the reason behind all this sudden praise?

That's a tough one.

Why exactly? Are darkly humorous adventure games really that hard to find?

Thanks for the recommendations, though. While I've already played both Portal games, I haven't really touched The Stanley Parable.

So, a few days ago I decided to buy Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands because it was 25% off. Unfortunately for me, while playing Episode 1, I encountered a bug that doesn't let me progress further, that's rare enough for the creators not to bother fixing it (I've seen numerous threads asking for help and the only things they suggested were some workarounds, none of which worked for me). So since I was stuck with no ability to progress and no solution as to how to fix that, I had no choice but to return the game. I still want a similar experience, though. Suggest an adventure game meeting these criteria:

  • Comedic approach
  • Interesting story
  • A setting realized in an interesting and original way, even if it's supposed to parody something
  • Easy puzzles
  • Dark humor with high amounts of absurdity in it
  • More focus on story rather than gameplay; preferably something akin to Telltale's school of game design

Anything you can think of based on this and, optionally, your knowledge of how crazy shit can get in both Borderlands and Tales from the Borderlands, so you can suggest something that's the closest feeling-wise? Thanks in advance for the help.

Perhaps people would prefer if it had a Plot Twist no one saw coming.....

I wonder if that would have been better.

Has there even been a post you've written that didn't drip with sarcasm?

And to answer your question: Maybe not an unexpected plot twist, but something at least thematically coherent with the previous episodes would've been better. And no, that tornado wasn't really despite being mentioned a few times in the story.

I had a feeling it was coming too.

That's the exact problem with this ending - everybody's seen it coming. Or more to the point - everybody's seen it coming, to the point where it was actively mocked by the community, thinking Dontnod wouldn't be that stupid to make such a lame, cliche ending to such a great story. Turns out they were...

I'm surprised it scored that high. It was so bad it deserves a 3... at best. Man, it was so half-assed and disappointing...

So, do you have any other ideas or am I too picky for you?
