I wasn't rude, but merely informative.

wait.. what? is not like this is a contest, but you are not if you think Silent Hill 2 has a great story.

It's not a contest, but you're slowly starting to make it one, so let's stop there. I still think you should give LiS a go, though.

Check out The Wolf Among us and Heavy Rain.

Heavy Rain is probably my third favorite game behind The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and Wind Waker/WWHD and I'm pretty sure it's on PC.

Read the OP. I've already played TWAU, and consider David Cage's games to be, gently speaking, not good. Also, Heavy Rain is a PS3 exclusive.

yeah, i could be wrong. KVO made the review on it, and he usually would point out stuff like that, but he liked it too, so it must be good.

Seriously consider giving this game a chance. You'll be positively surprised by how well-written and mature it is. And that's saying something considering the fact that until I played LiS, I only considered two games to have this level of maturity in their writing - Silent Hill 2 and The Walking Dead. Plus, I'm way pickier than you, so that's also saying something.

Also, thanks for the recommendation, I'll have a deeper look at it, since it seems like something I'd like.

I'm really picky when it comes to "story-games", and Life Is Strange seems a little... juvenile.

You have no idea how wrong you are... Sure, it gets a bit lighthearted and almost juvenile at times, but most of the time it's one of the darkest, most depressing stories I've had the opportunity to experience.

really? so many posts, and no one has yet mentioned The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

Would it be something that'd please someone looking for an experience similar to Life is Strange, or were you just going by the crtieria with that recommendation? Either way is fine, but I sill need to know in order to know what to expect.

You might be making it a little hard for yourself, adding more to the requirements that wasnt listed in your original post.

Wait, what? When did I add any new requirements?

I can't think of anything really similar, but what about Deus Ex: Human Revolution? It's not really a super dark game, but the story and the atmosphere surrounding the universe is quite bleak. It also has quite a bit of dialogue as well as dialogue choices. The characters in it are great and very well voice acted.

Well, it's also kind of random of a suggestion, but at least it's closer than Baldur's Gate... I might try it out when I completely run out of options (which might be pretty soon). Till then, I'll still try to find something closer.

Maybe try Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, the sequel to the original Longest Journey. It's the closest thing to life is Strange when it comes to how exposition is delivered. The story is just as good, too, as with its characters. With abit more of a conspiracy theme mixed in with elements of fantasy and dystopia. It's easier game, with simple logical puzzles and some minor choices to make. It's pretty flawed, though. There's some combat which isnt that great and 2 or so stealth sections, but overall, it's a great adventure.

I've heard about it and was considering playing it. That was until I found out it basically ends halfway through because they didn't care and if I wanted to have the full story, I'd have had to wait for "Chapters" to fully come out and considering I made this thread because I can't wait for a single episode of Life is Strange to come out, then guess how much would I want to wait for "Chapters"...

@illmatic87 said:

Other than that, your specific pickiness has pretty much put you out of options

You haven't even seen me at my most specific yet. Still, would you actually have any other options for me that don't specifically meet those criteria, or are you just saying that because you wanted to pick on me for being specific in what I want? If it's the former, please post them, while also providing a short description of what I would and wouldn't find there regarding my criteria, if you'd be so kind.

Cognition, Blackwell series,Technobabylon, Gemini Rue

I've got them recommended to me a few times, but I don't see the appeal. Are they really what I'm looking for?

@AdrianWerner said:

Also...if you want heavy story, moral choices and very light gameplay..why not try visual novels?

Because I've already tried some in the past. It didn't end well and left me sorely disappointed with quality of their writing.

And the answer to the inevitable follow-up question: I've played "Saya no Uta" and "Wheel Country: Sunflower Girl".

Life is Strange started off good (I played the first episode), but it lost me when they wouldn't stop swearing on every 3rd word....

Honestly, swearing in this game feels "organic" - it's not forced for effect, but rather used in a way an average person in their age would use it. Give this game a second chance, though - the dialogues get better in the later episodes (if it was bothering you) and the story is brilliant so far.

Well you mentioned:

  • Dark, depressing, emotional story.
  • Lots of dialogues.

Those fit that bill.

Well, technically you're probably right. But there's darkness and there's darkness. I'm looking for something close to the darkness and depression-inducing things Life is Strange had - very relatable, very mundane problems, where a big part of said darkness were dark things you see everyday ( like division of society into cliques, social ostracism, corruption, abuse of all kinds, depression etc.).
