[QUOTE="flazzle"] Hey "mister I understand everything about game development so I will talk down to you because I am losing an argument" , so all ports that come out later are destined to be better?

He's losing the argument? He seems a lot more logical and reasonable than you. I say this as an impartial observer, not someone who really gives a crap which version looks a little bit better. -John

The Wii has been the biggest surprise, and also a fairly major success story for nintendo, who've been getting their asses handed to them for the past two iterations of the console wars. Although I think the 360 wins in terms of quality games, the Wii shows the most potential. Sony has a ways to go before they can be considered the 'best', although the release of some of their top-quality properties will help (such as FF, MGS and a new God of War game, to mention a few).

Y'know what I hate about FF games? They over-rely on potions and phoenix-downs, building many fights and bosses around the idea that you'll have to use them at specific times, etc. So if you go through a long section to find the boss who, at your current level, is virtually impossible to defeat without having so many phoenix downs, and you don't have that many? You're screwed. Pull up an old save, go get whatever you need, then come back.

This applies more than to just phoenix downs. Just an example.

The whole point of the game is manipulating your attacks, magic, and item use to beat the bosses. Sure you can beat most of the foes by just doing a regular attack now and then and just spamming potions and pds but its pretty stupid. Plus its an RPG, you are supposed to level up as you see fit. You aren't supposed to be able to beat the game on with level 1 characters. The games can be as easy or as hard as you choose them to be.

I understand all that, I've played many RPGs... Let me put it another way. Leveling up, becoming more powerful, having more...it seems to me that most Western developers do a better job of making this a more natural process than JRPG dev's do. You have a lot more "busy work" in JRPGs...you have tons else to do in WRPGs, but they serve other ends than JUST leveling up.

*nods* I tend to agree. In KOTOR, by the time I needed to be a higher level, I generally -was- a higher level. I never had to go back into a place to kill the same creatures several hundred times so that I could level up; merely by following the game's storyline I was powerful enough. If I -did- want to become more powerful, usually there were side quests that would allow me to do so without having to grind endless streams of the same creatures. However, you could also argue that this is a result of the extra bonus content available in JRPGs, such as the Weapons in FFVII and the various gear in FFX (to name two). -John

Will they want to after getting the shaft from capcom? I think not.dmaximum
Capcom is a bunch of greedy jerks, how dare they put a game that's in development out for more than one platform and then REFUSE to go back to work on a couple of older games so that they are also multiplatform. I'll never buy another Capcom product again, and I'm going to make a lifesize poster of their president ONLY SO I CAN BURN IT. -John

Thx for all that replies =)

So, i think that i`ll take XBOX360 for now...

A PS3, here, in Brazil, is sold by around $1200.... And a XBOX 360 around $550... For now, a XBOX fits me well =)

And... I disagree that japan is the only one that create true rpgs... I like JRPGs because of the fantasy, story, creatures and such. But for the freedom of choice, WRPGs are a lot better than JRPGs. WRPGs and JRPGs are not rivel, since they are almost diferent generes...

Psyny

Well said. They appeal to vastly different audiences, even though there may be some overlap. And don't worry about your english, it's quite comprehensible, which is a step above some of the native english speakers on this board ;) I'd keep an eye on the PS3 for the future, but for now, I think you made the right choice.

Arrrrgh....stop with the endless Oblivion multiplat threads!!!!

Give it a rest. You fanboys will fight over the smallest of details.

I don't know why you all just won't agree that Oblivion, overall, is a great looking game no matter what platform it is on.

You answered your own question, through the use of the word 'fanboys'. They'll argue even if the games were completely identical, because a lot of people seem to base their own self-worth on their choice of console. Instead of understanding them, I find it easier to mock them. -John

[QUOTE="tovarischs"][QUOTE="xBALOx"]since xbox dont sell well on japan, expect that 90% of the RPGs will be for PS3.xBALOx
You realize, of course, that Japan is not the only country that makes RPGs, yes? -John

true RPGs, yes. all WRPGs are just Action adventure games...

NWN, Baldur's Gate, KOTOR, etc.... they're all Action Adventure games? Damn, I suppose I must've missed the intricacies of the phrase RPG - Role Playing Game. Thank you for correcting me. In the future, I hope that western RPG developers will strive to make their games more like the FF interactive movies - err, I mean games. -John

The 360 is getting games like BD, Trusty Bell, and Two Worlds. The PS3 is getting games like White Knight Story and FF13. I'd say 360, but the choice is yours and both are excellent.fatzombiepigeon
Not to mention Mass Effect and Fable 2 (although I really could care less about the latter) for the 360. Again, though, either way you should have a decent amount of games to go with.
