The second to last final boss in Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath is incredibly cheap and frustrating. Just only beat the game (PC HD version) a couple weeks ago.

Believe it or not,I'm still using Windows XP. lol.

Wow...that's almost 15 years old now. Hard to believe...

Still have my XP disc. Been wanting to make some kind of Pentium III or P4 retro box lately for poops and giggles.

STALKER (and it's sequels) is one of those flawed games that at their very core is still exceedingly good because many of the important elements are really well done or are done interestingly different. It's what STALKER does right that makes it worth playing, and to this day there is still nothing like it, and that alone gives it a reason to be on a must-play list. I remember getting Metro: 2033, and expecting an almost STALKER-like open world (except mostly limited to the Moscow Metro Tunnels), especially with ex-GSC devs making the game, but was disappointed terribly when I found out it was extremely linear.

I see streaming as a possibility, but certainly not a pillar for Nintendo's overall strategy, unless it means streaming purchased on-console content to the handheld/mobile device akin to PS4 to PSVita. As others are stating, 4K game streaming is impractical once you start considering ISP data limits and the kind of bandwidth that is required for a low-latency 30 FPS stream. A more practical way around this is to stream data and assets either as you play or in a play-while-it-installs manner like Halo 2 on PC, keeping rendering and processing local. That would still require an ample preload, a constant connection until the game is completely downloaded, and even moreso substantial processing power for the kind of graphics gamers expect out of current gen .

I see 4K gaming as out of reach for this console generation except for more graphically simple indie games. It's not like consoles got to enjoy 1080p last gen and as a PC gamer, 1080p is already pretty nice. What I want is a more stable 1080p/60 FPS experience with proper frame pacing along with better anti-aliasing solutions.

The other problem is the inability of developers to reign themselves in from overburdening the hardware they are developing for, especially in the PS4's case. 1080p should be the standard, period, on that system. We already went through this motion with 720p rendering on the past generation.

In light of AMD's admitted design wins and Nintendo's storied history with ArtX now ATi now AMD graphics, I'd be doubtful Nintendo would just "abandon" AMD for Nvidia. AMD might be x86-centric, but they do have an ARM license, and have released an 8-core ARM-based Opteron server CPU. The NX would make an interesting debut for AMD's first ARM APU.

Sort of a stupid comparison, when you have one console who's effective life was barely 2 years after it's Japan release, and the other enjoyed a full 5 years, and had substantially more powerful hardware to boot since it was released almost 3 years later. (Dreamcast released late '98 in Japan).

Things in the computer industry were simply moving and improving too fast, and the Dreamcast was very forward thinking already with a graphics processing unit that supported many things in hardware the PS2 did not like texture compression and bump mapping. However, the PS2 simply had a poop-ton of processing power and developer support that allowed it to survive with the times, as true transform and lighting GPUs, and high IPC/wide SIMD CPUs started to really pull ahead of the typical PS2 experience.

I think where the DC and GC comparison is valid is in the beautifully efficient design of the systems for their times, as opposed to simply brute forcing their way through code.

Great setting, but I WANT BATTLEFIELD 2143 GODDAMMIT

I guess DICE will continue to avoid it as long as CoD stays futuristic so they don't look like chasers. At least it's an underrepresented period of history, and it's easy to forget that there were horse charges, chemical weapons, and zeppelins! It will make for some interesting multiplayer!

Hardware-only platforms will eventually go the way of the Dodo.

PS4 Streaming to PC

PS4 Neo (which has to be fully backwards compatible)

Nintendo Pokemon stuff on phone

Close-knit PC-Xbone releases

It's only the beginning.

This coincides with one of the two biggest rumors I've been hearing for the NX's delay into 2017.

The first is that AMD is struggling to produce the required number of CPU's Nintendo wanted, and so has had to choose between an October/November launch for just one country, and with only a small amount of consoles that would not cover demand or move the date to insure they have enough units at launch, and be able to have a worldwide release.

The second, for anyone who's interested, is that 3rd parties have told Nintendo that their games wouldn't be ready for a November launch, and would likely not start dropping till, you guessed it, March (something I was also hearing rumors of BEFORE Nintendo announced the March release date). Nintendo not wanting to release yet another system with no 3rd party support and few games of their own and already having to make the decision about if they should wait for AMD to produce more CPU's, took this as a sign that the console had to pushed into 2017.

Well, the former is definitely incorrect, considering that AMD doesn't produce semi-conductors and would play no part in production at all once the chip has been designed.

It could be a reference to an engineering issue on AMD's side that is directly making it hard to manufacture in volume for TSMC or GloFo. It could also be that production has started later than expected and the needed high volumes won't be available to make the first batch of systems for the original launch window.

28 nm process tech is a mature process with well known Jaguar and GCN IP blocks.

I'm betting the NX will be Polaris, and therefore, 14nm. The timing is good, and Nintendo won't have to depend on as wide a memory bus as they would with current GCN. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if they go the eSRAM/eDRAM route like MS as well. At the same time, I can see Nintendo going for an HBM2 equipped APU too, since it would give them some of that low-latency memory "secret sawce" every system they've made has possessed.

Build it! Not only is it cheaper, but it will make you smarter.......

However, at the risk of backlash, I do see the appeal of getting one of those Alienware Alphas, especially if you're just looking for a cheap and easy way to explore what PC gaming has to offer before really diving in with your wallet in tow.
