Bethesda and EA - THIS is how it’s done. When you release a game too early, you admit that mistake do the right thing by fixing it. The devs on No Man’s Sky redeemed themseves and earned forgivness and respect.

And they did it with a small team and little money, so what the hell is your excuse?

@consolehaven: That is so cooool that you’re part of executive team at Sony and have access to their Q3 analytics, survey, user experience, retention and sales data. You really seem to be in the loop, so please tell us more.

Achievements and online multiplayer for Virtual Console games (NES, SNES, N64, ETC) would be great (and modern games also. Streaming would be great but I doubt that will happen. And, I’ve already paid like $700 for Virtual Console and NES and SNES classic, so I’ll be pissed if I have to pay a fee to access to them again.

Nintendo caught the ball in 2017, so let’s hope they don’t fumble it in 2018.

@rotchild: ALL companies (except non profits) care about making a profit. You just perceive them differently, and customer perception is the, and the only, job of the marketing department. There is a reason that marketing budgets in companies that sell to consumers, is hands down, the highest budget out of all departments. A ridiculous amount of money is spent on manipulating you into thinking a certain way. And even though Nintendo won 2017 by making two of the best games ever made, while EA royally screwed up, at the end of the day, Nintendo’s and EA’s goals in 2017 were identical.

@teppolundgren: That makes no sense all. They did have a choice. In fact, it proves my point even more since you’re essentially saying 4.5 million people chose to pay $360 for Breath of the Wild, while less than 10% of PS4 owners bought HZD. Breath of the Wild must really be a a mediocre game then if millions of people paid $360 for it ;)

@teppolundgren: Have you actually played both BotW and HZD to completion? I have. They are both excellent, although BotW is slightly better.

Second, Beath of the Wild sold more copies. So when you say you have to go with the popular choice that more people played, what do you mean exactly?

@NorseLax09: You're arguing for something that has no standard definition. But if you insist on doing that, there are certainly many arguments against your opinion: Wiki (which may be as close to standard as it gets), states Metroidvania is a sub genre of (you guessed it - action adventure. Even the director of Symphony of Night (Igarashi) producer of the portable Castlevanias, stated his criteria and camera angle wasn't mentioned. Hell... he even stated SOTN was not inspired by Metroid, but instead a 2D Link to the Past. In Prime, you explore, back track, use items to open new areas, can do sequence breaks, has a map that encourages exploration to find secrets, has a sense of discovery, and the list goes on. And there are many first person action adventure games out there. Point is, Metroidvania is used to describe many gameplay elements and Metroid Prime fits 90% of them.

@jyml8582: Actually no. What would be stupid is releasing a home console into a market already dominated by Sony and Microsoft, or not paying attention to how well the 3DS has sold, or how well the Wii-U didn't sell. And after screwing up the last generation by releasing a console for, well, hardly anyone, they now know who to target. Maybe they actually learned from their previous screw up. That's actually the smartest thing they could do.
