@Noved23 maybe "fun" is a subjective phenomenon that is experienced differently by different people. That would also nullify any value that these "game of the year" mentions have, why? because the only value they have is the value the GS community give it, personally my GOTY is different and that doesnt make it any less or any more valid than the GS game of the year.

@gameroutlawzz @parkurtommo thats a lot of assumptions you make right there, cos he didnt like Zelda and thought it was boring that means he is "not a gamer" and he "sucks at games"? , he didnt say it was even a bad game just a "boring choice". The only thing that sucks is your inability to tolerate a difference in opinion and taste. Ironically I think you are absolutely perfect user base for this site, as they will mock you, insult you, and then present it to you in their videos. Enjoy what remains of GS, it used to be a very good and respectable site, all that todays site has in common with that era of GS is the name.

@Ozzy6996 I too have used this site an incredible amount, its glory days where the days of greg kasavin and his ilk, many of which moved to giant bomb now and elsewhere.

I think this site has sort of lost what I initially liked about it, its unique charm, its reviews that were more based on a games "fun" factor rather than how artistic, well executed, "misogynistic" it is. Which may be very valid points for some that use this site, but not so much for me, at least not when I want to play a game which is designed to entertain me.

I have stopped using the site more and more, the new update has decreased it even more that usual. I think eventually, in the not too distant future, ill come to a stop.

the current reviewers and staff seem to like arguing or even attacking the GS members and users now. With things like "feedbackula" or even some of the other videos about depression, feminism, etc. Its just attacking the gaming community and emphasising the bad all the time. Its more of them trying to "look" like they have the moral high ground, but will not accept any differences in opinion, a sort of idiotic bigoted liberalism if you will.

Best thing to do is move on. I find that Angryjoe, who is one of the best reviewers I have ever seen, does an absolute stellar job at weighing up a game in his lengthy and very informative reviews, it lets you know exactly if its a game you want to get, rather than "does it impress the reviewer". which I find is what a review is meant to do. Also Total biscuits "WTF is" is also helpful to us PC gamers, and also his very good and objective, intellectual insights on changes in the gaming community are far superior to the façade that GS try to import, only demonstrating a shadow of the quality of content TB presents.

See ya later guys, have fun in 2014 and best of luck in the future :)

You know as an objective player, one that had barely any connection to nintendo at all until the wii. When I finally picked up super mario galaxy, Zelda twilight princess, then super mario galaxy 2, etc. I realised that nintendo games are some of the most over-rated of all time. Its fanboyism that keeps them alive, it was so popular in an era during the 90s that these kids that are now grown men reviewing the game, forget that for someone on the outside it really is just another game, there is no "emotional" connection to it.

I disagree with this choice, personally there are many games that I felt did a better job, were more enjoyable and fun to play, better desgined, more innovative, more moving, etc. But ok its just my opinion, and this is just their opinion you could argue also, but then if that is the case why does this "game of the year" non-sense have any value at all? maybe, and most probably, it doesnt.

@dannyodwyer @houshidar Thanks for the response, and while going through it the whole depression mixed in with gender issues was very confusing and unclear, I will pick a point and address it so here it goes:

I watched the video again to make sure I wasn't hallucinating but you clearly said "secondly because she is a woman" when referring to why people didn't vote for it in green light. Also you stated that while Phil Fish got abuse, people didn't think less of him as a designer because of his gender, implying that because she is a woman is a main factor as to why it didn't get voted in green light.

Yet you are contradicting yourself now saying "I never said she said it didn't get passed Green light because she is a woman" I didn't state that is what she said, I said that is what you said and how you tried to justify it not passing on GL, and you clearly haven't proven this still so what I say stands and ironic that you say it was me that didn't give a measured response.

Furthermore:

"Zoey has been harrassed, awfully, by assholes, but even bringing up this fact is pissing me off but I shouldnt have to that sort of behaviour is unacceptable regardless of age or gender or ethnicity BUT I HAVE TO! because I want to talk about why this game has had such a torrid time on steam greenlight and sadly thats a major reason because girls cant design games and that it's an interactive novel" There you mentioned it again, so I'm not hallucinating since that's the 3rd time you said it.

also a non-sequitur; you follow by saying "seriously we have an industry which has an infatuation with repetition" and then proceed to change the greenlight issue to another reason saying "where publishers only want to make games in pre-established genres and where new ideas have to be justified over and over to see the light of day". Yes this is true, but this applies to all indie games, only the best make it through and those that aren't popular don't get through, this isn't just Zoey's problem, many developers have this problem and it's not because she is a woman but because its popularity based and if it meets steams requirements, the game may just not have been interesting to most people, I have suffer from it and I dont find it interesting does that make me sexist too? you have shown no proof other than rant about this issue and supposedly categorise yourself as someone with depression by personalising it in your reply saying "I think any reference to MY condition was pretty measured" and possibly using that as the sole motivation for attacking steam for not passing the game and then making false claims saying it was because she was a woman and that people scorn those with depression, while I agree she may have been harassed by other people, steam does not and will not prevent a game being passed for that reason and that is a fact.

I myself have had depression and anxiety for many years and still do, however I do not use it as an excuse to justify any of my unsuccessful endeavours as it seems you are trying to do for this "depression quest" game , like I said many bold claims but none that you have proven. So while you can attack me by saying "not the most measured response I've ever had" I hope you enjoy this measured one and understand how your own is not as solid as you thought.

All in all there are areas of improvement, I suggest sticking to one topic and addressing it do not confuse many points and try and merge them at once such as depression and gender issues because then we get videos like this that try to address everything but address nothing. Pick a question and answer that question, find evidence for it and break down your own argument, question yourself and also accept criticism, not just on the surface but really accept it if it is constructive as I have endeavoured to be, Thank you for your time.

Ill be honest now, Ive liked danny's stuff before like his original vid. But boy he got some things wrong in this vid bad. Firstly it may not be being upvoted in greenlight cos 1, people really may not be interested like he mentioned its a "browser based game".... 2. how the hell does he know its because its because she is a woman? has he done a survey? no, many games dont get passed greenlight, its not cos she is a woman and if he claims it is... well.. prove it!

Also to address another point this vid didnt express anything meaningful, it didnt talk about the portrayal of women as sexual objects in gaming and media in general, or the perception of women about men and even about what women gamers think men might view women as.

Also he is milking his whole "I had depression thing", well you know what? so have I, I also had a serious anxiety disorder since I was 14, but I Dont go talking shit and using that as an excuse for anything. I deal with it cos I cant escape it and I dont try and glorify it so stop milking that point danny and thinking you have some priori argument that can somehow fall into all these issues cos you had "depression" there are many others that have far worse, everyone got problems and I didnt see the relevance at all to women's issues other than the fact she made a game called "depression quest" but this vid was supposedly about "gender wars"...

Overall bad vid.

@Andrei Mezei lol what? it has a far inferior graphics engine to bf4 and runs far worse for what it is, ive seen this run on GTX titans and still have complete random variable frame rate drops that made no sense for its graphical output is no where near good enough to justify that. Also whats even worse is that it requires a 50gb install, why? it still runs worse but looks like a slightly more upscaled version of previous iterations.

@Daniel Paddon only difference is battlefield is a far more refined and innovative game with actual destruction, vehicular combat and large scale maps that are run at very good framerate and with beautiful visuals. Also the team and multiplayer systems are far more refined. CoD is same old same old.
