@Villimax @SoraOfKingdom I've mentioned I haven't played the game, my thesis is based solely on the value of a negative review in pointing out the flaws of a game that a gushing review may miss and making consumers more curious about the product's potential faults prior to a purchase. Ultimately, this line of argument relies on the consumer's curiosity being piqued by criticism levelled at the game.

@Villimax @fog90 In much the same way The Raid had well-choreographed action, you are arguing that RE6 has fun mechanics. Action is to an action movie as mechanics are to a game. With fun action, a movie devoid of plot can still be fun, e.g. The Raid. With mechanics that are fun, a game can be fun devoid of plot, e.g. Quake 3.I only mentioned The Raid because fog90 did.

@SoraOfKingdom I am saying there was a history behind Ebert's decision to give The Raid a 1 star review. Simple as that.

@fog90 You can fight back. Why not fight back in a way that makes them look foolish though?

@fog90 @IAMTYLERDURDEN Hi, I have a genuine question. What is your opinion on the rather farcical reaction to the game by the users on Metacritic? I mean it has a user average of 0.6 out of 10. That's worse than Dragon Age II's, if I am not mistaken...

@fog90 Let them badmouth the game all they want. Do you want to use the same tactics as them? Do you want to be associated with a person who parrots generic complaints about games because it seems like an opportune moment to do so? There's a difference between them and Ebert.Ebert has clout, SoraOfKingdom does not.Ebert giving The Raid a 1 out of 4 will be more damaging to the movie than a simple consumer badmouthing the game on a shaky premise. Here's what else I have to contend. If you know Ebert's taste and preferences, you'd know he prefers there to be character depth in the movies he watches. This is why he gave The Devil's Rejects a thumbs up. Go watch that review, it's quite interesting actually. The Raid had no character depth. What it did have was amazing action, absolutely amazing action. I love that movie, I can see why Ebert did not. There's a history behind that rating. This is where the difference is.

@89318101 Hey, if they don't purchase RE6, they don't purchase RE6. It's not the end of the world. You can play your part by championing the game to all you know that have given up on the game due to *all* the poor reviews it got. Let's not act like Gamespot is an isolated case, as it is not. There's probably a need for change in the gamer culture. We should be actively seeking out as many reviews as we can consume rather than letting us be put off by one negative review. That's not a healthy response.

@Villimax @89318101 The number system is a painful artefact of the reviewing culture. Each publication has a different policy regarding its use, much as each customer has a different opinion of what the numbers mean. It's far from standardised, and in my opinion, should be done away with. We're in agreement there.I have a question, a serious question. Would you be as upset with this review if it didn't have a 4.5? I want to see how much of a role the 4.5 plays and how much of a role the review text plays.

@fog90 @SoraOfKingdom Guys, guys. Seriously, this is a *video game*. It is a product for entertainment. What entertains one person will necessarily be different from what entertains another person. There's absolutely no need to threaten to cause bodily harm to someone else because they disagree with your assessment of a game (even if their disagreement is not based on anything other than assumptions). No one *deserves* what you said to them. For the record, you're not "right". You can't ever be right about a matter of taste.

Just ignore them and don't give their opinion credence.

@Villimax @89318101 From what I've seen of the game it seemed like fun, yes. Having not had the time to get my hands on the game, I shall not comment. My comments were purely theoretical in that regard. I think a 4.5 review would act as a red flag causing a customer to be more conservative with their purchasing decision. If it were me, I'd do more research into the game prior to purchase. This, I can only see as a good thing. If gamespot were the only publication, I could see it as a problem. Gamespot is not, however. It's one of many that can provide many opinions of the one product. If you are aware of the reviewer's biases (and yes every human has biases) and which reviewer seems to have tastes similar to your own, you can make a more informed decision about the game. You clearly enjoy the game. Good for you, keep enjoying it, and I hope you enjoy all the games you purchase. I'm sorry if this seems like it's a waste of your time reading, that was not my intent.
