@Villimax @89318101 Fair points to make. My exposure to the game is the prerelease gameplay (hence all the screen tearing). 9 reviews gave the game a 5 or less, so Kevin isn't alone in thinking the game is unplayable crap. Feel free to ignore negative reviews of a game that is getting an overwhelmingly positive reaction (though I Personally find myself reading them). It may be overstating it to call the game unplayable crap, however, calling attention to what *may* be perceived is flaws is a service to the customer, even if the customer disagrees in the end.

@89318101 Checking out Metacritic right now, Giant Bomb, Polygon, Destructoid (though people expected that) and Quarter to Three gave RE6 a 4, 4, 3, and 2 respectively.I'd say with that in mind, Kevin's review isn't entirely unrepresentative of the quality of the game. This, of course, does not mean you cannot enjoy the game. I, myself view Lost Planet 2 as one of my favourite games of the generation. It didn't review that well. Perhaps there's a caveat that us consumers should keep in mind. We do not have to engage in as much media as reviewers do.Movie critics watch 100s of movies, game reviewers play dozens of games, etc. We're blessed in that way. We do not get fatigued.

Though you can see this fatigue happening to consumers already. Look to the military shooter genre. I'm genuinely glad you enjoyed the game, though I have to say the onus is on the customer to utilise all information at their disposal to make choices about their purchases. The refreshing aspect comes in from this point of view. I know I'd be much happier if I bought a game that got a 4.5 and enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than a 4.5 would suggest than if I bought a game that got an 8 and hated it.Just my view of the situation though. Probably also influenced by the torrent of homophobic tweets Kevin's been getting due to this review.

@Villimax @89318101 Granted, but there is a link to Metacritic right over there on the upper right. I would, at very least, prefer a review to tell me of the flaws to be found in a game so that I can adjust expectations accordingly. The onus is then on me, as a consumer, to utilise *all* the resources available to me to decide whether or not to purchase the game. From what I have seen of the gameplay, it seems only Leon's campaign maintain's a survival horror atmosphere, screen tearing abounds, and the UI seems to be an unintuitive mess. For the record, I enjoyed games that have reviewed poorly. Lost Planet 2 is probably one of my favourites of the generation but it did... not well on the critical circuit. I do, however, completely agree with almost every fault pointed out in the game by reviewers. It is up to the audience to know what their needs are in the end. The game may be a 4.5 to someone and an 8 or higher to someone else. Not having media representation of the lower end of the scale seems a little disingenuous to me, even if they come off as biased.

@89318101 Honestly, I don't see how reviewers can win in this day and age. They're criticised for giving "overly high" scores to games often enough, just check the user reviews on Metacritic if you disagree. When they give a lower than average score, OH MY GOD BIAS. Maybe a 4.5 is lower than the game "deserves", maybe not for a series with such a pedigree. Is he making a statement? Perhaps he is, but at least it is refreshing to read a critical review of a game rather than one gushing over the game as if its flaws would not be an impediment to the enjoyment of the game at all.

@NeilCardiff @towfiqi As opposed to aiming it at the few million who will buy the same thing again and again because of brand recognition and flashy graphics?

@jayjay444 You just haven't been looking hard enough, and I suppose I am glad about that in a way.

@bigbogd You know part of what made Silent Hill 2 an amazingly atmospheric game was its "shitty graphics". Not every game demands "good" graphics, and I'd sooner take a game with graphics like this than a big brown and grey game with "amazing" graphics any day. A game can have the best graphics on a technical level and still look like shit compared to a game with amazing art direction.

@Cataclysmm Yes, there is no need for great ground breaking next gen graphics. I think the openness of the PC platform should be embraced instead of shunning small ONE man developed gems like this because people want the next big bombastic thing. I think it's great, personally, because once I am done with the little games like this, I can still turn to the big ones on the same platform =)

@FuBi2k Yes, I found the lack of detail inherent in 2D pixel art actually added to the uncertainty I felt while playing the game. The art style was a big asset and it not being a 3D graphical powerhouse was in its best interests.

Given the review, I see nothing wrong with the 6 score. 6-7 sounds fair to me. I think this comment section is the product of a past in which games were given high scores whether or not they deserved them. We are so used to the fact that high scores were handed out that when a site decides to use the rest of its scale people cry foul.

If the review sounds positive, you can get over the negatives and think you'll enjoy the game, the score should not factor into your purchasing decision. Hell, Watters even said as much in his review.
