@fog90 I was genuinely surprised when Monster Hunter Tri got something higher than a 6. Gamespot seemed to have a bad history with that series.

@Villimax @nyran125 I thought one of the main complaints centred around BF3's campaign was in its heavy use of QTEs. As for God of War, it's selling a very specific experience. QTEs play into that experience. It's okay to find the game shallow, but it is incredibly well done with regards to its QTEs. BF3 was not.

@Villimax @IAMTYLERDURDEN And all I am saying is big budgets will demand higher returns and may ultimately not be sustainable. I didn't buy ME3 because, while I enjoyed the one on one dialogue moments in ME2, they were all that were carrying me through the game. To me it was a mediocre shooter with a mediocre RPG layered on top. I have a feeling you're going to see more homogenisation of games when bigger budgets come into play. You're already seeing unfinished games released because there is infrastructure in place to allow developers to continue fixing problems that should have been fixed prior to launch after the game has been released.

@Villimax @fog90 These are fair points to make, and they should be made instead of arguing with other people. Arguing with people isn't going to convince them.

@Villimax @IAMTYLERDURDEN It's not a sustainable model for the industry to take. I'm afraid of overly inflated budgets for games. Focusing on making quality over stylish games is the way to go.

@Villimax @fog90 I've read Kevin's review of the game, he mentions camera issues as well as the game taking control away from the player whenever something big happens. Admittedly, this is old fashioned game design. He also mentions the game's deliberate controls do not fit the supposed action pace of the game, and gave an example to illustrate his point. He didn't just rely on QTEs and cutscenes to deride the game. Just being fair here. He may be off about these criticisms, but it is unfair to say he's only complaining about QTEs.

@Villimax @IAMTYLERDURDEN RE6 doesn't look like a game with a small budget either, though I suppose money has been saved by using an internal engine. Big Budget has become a derogatory term recently though. "Oh why is this game crap? It's got a big budget and is watered down, duh." *sigh*

@IAMTYLERDURDEN All reviews have bias in them, though probably not in the way most people use the word bias. Bias comes from the reviewer's prior experiences and personal tastes. What makes critics more valued than the average consumer is that they are seen as having a sort of insight into the products they are critiquing that the average consumer may not have. Why do people think The Raid is good? Many consumers would say because it has good action. Reviewers would say it is because the action has a clear sense of geography and you can tell where everyone is in respect to everyone else, thus the film is a cut above other action films.Their bias then comes in with how their prior experiences influence their evaluation of the final product. Ebert's prior experiences has yielded more rewarding viewing experiences from watching movies with compelling characters, thus The Raid's 1 star review. He's biased, you're biased, I'm biased.

@Villimax @fog90 Tastes are a personal thing and can cloud judgements. What you find fun, someone else may not (see the abysmal 0.6 user average on Metacritic, for example). I'm saying action in a movie is equivalent to gameplay in a game. If the action is good, it will carry a movie more than if its action was bad. If a game's mechanics are good, it will carry a game more than if they were bad. You enjoyed the mechanics of RE6 and that's great. =)

@Villimax @89318101 I've got a feeling the AAA industry is growing at a rate that they cannot sustain. They're investing too much into products to appeal to niche audiences, case in point Dead Space 3.Ultimately, I'm foreseeing a lot of studios going under because their bloated productions didn't sell well. It's the push to satisfy consumers who expect more and more pushed out of hardware that will do the industry in. Games will not sell enough to break even or make profits anymore. So yes, even those terrible games won't survive in the long run. In any case, I said if they don't purchase it based on one review, you could do your part to convince them, in a civil manner, that it is worth consideration. Insults will not help matters.
