Like movies, games can either be Art or Entertainment. Also like movies, most games fall into the Entertainment category. However, there are games out there (mostly in the Indie scene, though as this article points out, it is starting to bleed into the mainstream as well) that can seriously make you think. I suggest that anyone who is interested in Art games should look up Jason Rohrer and his games like Passage, Gravitation, and Immortality. Try and tell me that games like those, Jonathan Blow's Braid, and Jonathan Mack's Everyday Shooter aren't Art.

I had to buy a second drum set after the yellow pad cracked under the rubber, and the new set os now broken... The hits only register like 2/3 of the time. I'm quite upset. Those things are expensive. These new drums look A LOT better though, so I'm totally going to wait to buy a new set until these come out. It's a good thing Rock Band is such a darn good game, or having to replace broken gear would probably make me stop playing it.

I guess this is pretty cool, but I really feel like this will only be used by a couple games. It'll be the new Wii Balance Board - used mainly for the game it's bundled with, with a few more games that use it in alternate control methods.

Alright, Vista may be worse for gaming, but in general, you have to say it it the better OS by far. I dual-boot with XP, and whenever I have to go back to it (so far, only for like 2 programs - 1 of which was BioShock), I hate it. Vista doesn't deserve all the flak it gets. Well... except for gaming. Numbers don't lie.

I don't really see the point of having a quad core processor at the moment. New games right now are just starting to fully take advantage of dual core processors (games like BioShock, UT3, and Crysis). Higher-end Core 2 Duo's seem to be just fine now. I guess if you're building a new PC though, you would want a quad core. But there's no reason to upgrade.

I'm pretty psyched for this game. I'm getting if for Christmas, and by the looks of it, I'll be able to run it just fine. From the screenshots, it doesn't look like there's much of a difference above 3. I'm guessing there's more anti-aliasing and maybe some more lighting effects that would make a difference when you actually play the game. I'm pretty excited though that my card (8600 GT) actually runs the game just fine. wounds, they did do a hardware analysis for Crysis.

gizmo, the same type of thing happened to me. The game was basically unplayable no matter what setting it's on. If you have Vista, try playing it on XP (if possible). I dual-boot and it ran fine on the XP side. If you can't try that or it doesn't work, make sure your video drivers are up to date.

Yeah, for some reason, I can play Crysis at medium settings with high textures and shaders on XP pretty well, but when I play on Vista (I dual-boot), it barely runs on LOW. I encountered a similar problem with BioShock, where I couldn't play the game at all on Vista, but on XP I could play with the settings maxed out. Does this have something to do with DX10? Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, 3 GB RAM, GeForce 8600M GT.

I really want to attend DigiPen when I get out of high school, and seeing Portal and all the games at IGF make me want to go there even more. It seems like everyone who goes there becomes amazing at making games.
