Zelda is my GOTY too :) I think it would be interesting to see how many people who voted last of us had also played zelda (or any other top 10 game for that matter.) Thats why users poll mean nothing to me. People may like last of us, but judging by many comments, there seems to be a lot of people who disregard zelda for being too childish. Not sure why people think that though. The only assumption i can work out is 3ds game + Similar map + Cartoonish graphics = childish repeat of a game. Meh, in my opinion, you are missing out :)
Not gonna lie, this was one of the reasons i considered getting an xbone at launch. Still didnt, but it was tempting. Peggle was the game of choice in my uni house, hungover with leftover pizza monging in bed with uni mates was perfect for saturdays...
This game convinced me to buy a 3ds (the zelda 3dsxl infact) and im glad it did! Although the game surroundings are familiar, it is a completely different game. The dungeons have been well thought out (i have just got to lorule though, so do not take my word as final), and i have spent a lot of time just walking around familiarising myself and reminiscing about the good old days with LTTP. I also love the OOT references with Impa and Dampe involved. The 'make yourself a picture' gimmick is well done and adds a new dimension to the game. If i had to criticise, the weapon buying which was meant to make it a lot more free roam is not as good as i thought it would be. Originally i thought you could rent one weapon at a time. Turns out you can get as many as you want (and after i was walking round exploring, i had enough to get all but the two rods), which i thought put a little downer on it. Also, this might just be my eyes, but sometimes i struggle with layers on the 3D, when im working out how high i am in comparison with where i need to be. But these are nit picks, easily a 9, and definitely the best zelda game in the past decade.
@isildor81 i never get this arguement. It can be twisted and manipulated against any game set you want. (e.g. CoD is going through linear levels shooting enemys, Batman is the same combat over and over, mario is rescuing the princess.) I think the word that sums it up is "so?" Most open world games have restrictions at first (assassins creed and desynchronisation for instance).
Also, it should be pointed out that you can deal with the castles in this zelda in any order, making it more open world than before
And what boss dies in three hits? Gone through OoT and a link to the past in my head, i cant think of one boss that takes three hits.... (maybe dodongo and the fire dragon in the fire temple, but im sure they are more too)
I still dont understand why people think 7 is a bad score! i know its all subjective, but i feel that people dont spread out the scoring system, and that a good game is 9 or higher. I tend to use more university scoring. 4-5 is passable but people really want 6-7/10. 8/10 is bordering on great while 9 and 10 have surpassed the average game by some standard.
