Speaking seriously. I think that Spec Ops the line has BY far the best story in videogame history. It makes you think, criticizes the state of the industry and the mind state of every player AND the nature of war. This is a very smart story.

Their government has failed to do the job of protecting its own citizens. Maybe if they'd pay their law enforcement a livable wage, they wouldn't be as susceptible bribery.

Well... It's not that simple. Yes, local police officers have extremely low wages, but there's also the cartel which says: hey, take this 1,000 bucks or 3 to the head. Your choice.

I'm not saying the changes will happen overnight. But we don't have that problem in the U.S., at least not to that extreme.

Well.. that is because you are not the producers (aka cartels), but the consumers. Mexico makes the dirty work as drug production goes, and US buys the results...
Think of it as the case of "blood diamonds". The places where they are gotten have terrible conditions, but the guys who traffic it to the public, live in absolute peace.

I think that the U.S. government should get involved. We'd rather waste resources on wars being fought on the other side of the world, but overlook serious problems in our own backyard. I think a U.S. military intervention would eradicate these cartels in less than a year.

I think that you should ask mexicans if they want US military troops shooting in their country.

No permission needed.

I think that you have just embodied in a sentence the hatred towards 'MURICA!

Also, Drug cartels exist because they SEND their wares to the US (Mexican drug cartels exist and got so powerful because of their exports and deals with US), so instead of thinking "we should shoot other guys" you should be asking: "We should solve our drug consumtion problem".

I am a Mexican living in Mexico Heck. This is a very complicated and touchy subject

So, in the southwestern corner of Mexico (Michoacan) drug cartels have taken the state. It is very hard to intervene, because they have bought a lot of politicians and police officers. The military is not effective, because its orders and training are ment for different purposes.

So, we have half of a state controlled by cartels. There are kidnappings and a lot of extorsions. PEople from small communities started this "revolt" by isolating themselves. Well, kinda. They made checkpoints at the very entrance of the small towns, to protect themselves and their neighbors, but things have devolved so violently that arming themselves was the only answer. This is terrible for a couple of reasons

1. It clearly means that the Govenrment has no strategies or force to deal with the Cartels

2. If people push the cartel away from Michoacan, there is a very real and very probable possibility that the cartel will radicalize and become more violent.

3. If people push away/destroy the cartel, there is still a big worry about what to do with the armed population. Disarm them is the first idea, but how to do it?

I donĀ“t know what to say about it. They are defending their security and their right to live, but whatever the outcome is, it will be messy
