Either pick the military or a career elsewhere
That whole "oh go military just for a few years" talk is awful
If you're going to join the military then make it your career which means you go through the ranks and hopefully if you're smart enough and good enough get to a top position.
If you think you want to go to college then do that and find a career somewhere and if you're smart enough and good enough get to a top position
The military is not some kind of extended summer camp that people get to explore before they start the rest of their lives
When you join the military that means you're signing up to be put in harm's way for the country and it's citizens and even friends of our country. That means whatever else you have going on in your life does not matter when you get the call that says you're leaving.
Doing well in your job and when you miss time you wont get that advancement you were aiming for? Too bad
Wife is 8 months pregnant and you don't want to miss the birth? Too bad
Mother has cancer and you want to see her while she dies? Too bad
Either pick military and make it your career or pick another line of work and make that your career
The military is not an extended summer camp
you dont need to make military a career. use it as it will surely use you. get whatever you can out of it but that doesnt mean 20 yrs for everyone. knew a master-at-arms. he did one enlistment, got out and now works for ncis making a hell of a lot more than being enlisted. anyway my point is, the military IS a camp. not summer camp but, you can join it, learn a trade, useful skill and get out. my neighbors son learned to fix trucks and stuff while in the air force. all FREE training he didnt have to pay for and now you know what? he can use those skills outside the force. so again you can do an enlistment, learn what you can and move on. those that want a career, already know it.
