Hope its nothing like Lotro. Lotro is actually really pretty game but the combat bored me silly. Sleepyz

Figthing in Ace of Conan is in "real time ". Meaning that you direct the attacks IN REAL TIME. If you press swing left , your carachter will swing left. Your oponant has shield markings. If you hit a target on just the left side, the target will move his shielding to protect that side leaving his right side open for attac.

You can also dodge during fights. You will get access to combos as you level up. Activate a combo, execute, it and if done right you might trigger a fatalaty move. Decacpitation or simular brutal deaths.

With Age of Conan the days of watching tv and eating and taking on the phone while playing an MMORPG is over. You are fighting in real time. To be sucessfull in a fight you need to well......fight he he:-)

That and the mature setting and gamplay is what differs Age of Conan from other available MMO's out there.

Based upon the closed beta they gave it a 9/10.

They will re-review it sometime after launch.

I know some are sceptical because of problems faced during the open beta. Have in mind that funcom had a debugger running, slowing things down quite a bit. Also no dx10 support or multi core support before the launch.

Based upon what i have read so far about the game in the "age of Conan" forums and gaming site previews , i think funcom have a winner on their hands. But you might have to upgrade your computer if you have an old gaming rig.

Never though i'd play an MMORPG again after the mess that was the "combat upgrade" of star wars galxies. But this one might lure me back in;-)

NEOSPARKING

I'm in the same boat as you after SWG, but im defintly gona get AoC, looks good...maybe unpolished, but SWG was highly unpolished as well when it came out, and it ended up bieng my fav game of all time.

a norwegian site giving a norwegian made game high reviews. NO WAY!!!

They might be a bit to kind because of the origin of the game, but they are usually professional in their reviews. They are not any better (or worse for that matter) than for instance gamespot.....

So I am confused, what exactly makes Conan special? IS it mainly a pvp game? This is a serious question, not trying to poke fun at it.. I recently got addicted again to Diablo 2, but am always keep an eye out for a new stat based rpg experience.sSubZerOo

It's a MMORPG. There are servers for PvE meaning pvp is only in organized form (you will not be jumped by other players left and right) and pure PvP servers (where you can be jumped by other players left and right;) You can chose your "home" based upon prefered playstyle.

You level up to level 80 doing quests solo of group up with others. You can join gulids and be part of player cities. You can also be part of siege warfare against other guilds.

What is special about Age of Conan is the fact that it is a mature game 18+ in Europe. Meaning that they have recreated Robert E. Howards Hyboria faithfully, just like inthe books and Conan comics.

A dark violent world filled with beautiful women and horrible demons and other foul creatures. The craphics are setting a new standard for MMO's aswell. It looks beautiful. If you have an older computer you will need to upgrade.

If Age of Conan gets close to SWG pre - CU, it will be MMO heaven. Sure miss my weaponsmith/smuggler Nemis and Krayt killer Nemisis with his anti decay perfect armor and anti decay weaponry and jet pack and houses and guild buddies and what not. Could stand toe toe solo against ancient Krayts with that bugger he he:-)

Good times:-)

Perhaps the good times are coming back again with Age of Conan? Sure hope so. Game looks really promising.

Enough with the threads that this is the year of the PS3. Wii is outselling the PS3 5-to-1 on a regular basis in Japan, and has more than double the PS3's entire install base worldwide.

If you want to claim that the PS3 is having a bit of a comeback, and might eventually take second place next year, fill your boots - but don't say that 2008 is the year of the PS3 and that Sony's back, etc., etc., that's just simply not true.

Recall the scorecard as of right now is:

Wii - 21 million
360 - 18 million
PS3 - 9 million

And don't start with the whole, "sales don't matter" speech. We all know in system wars that sales are the most objective standard we have for measuring a console's success (for example, the PS2 winning last generation).

Yodas_Boy

Just updating your numbers :

Wii - 24,5

360 - 18,3

ps3 - 11,9

There seems to be a few posting in this thread that have som knowlage about computers/inner workings of consoles/game development.

So my question to any feeling competant enough to answer :

Wii put out 480p. 360 and ps3 usually 720p. How much extra omph is needed in prossering power to go from 480p to 720p?

I have a 360 myself and an SD TV 36 inch. 360 games look good on it. On a HD tv they look just the same only twice as "sharp".

Any one have any thougths about this? We all know how good resi 4 looked on the cube. The wii is about twice as powerful( ? ). How big improvemet will that mean graphically in terms of potential. Considering that the wii outputs in a much lower resolution.

(Only reply if you have real knowlage about computers and game development plz :-)

Arsuz

Well you could take a look at this Crysis benchmark on different resolutions to get a rough idea:

LINK

Here you can see that it's different per videocard, and of course it will also differ per game. But take for example the 8800GTS (The yellow bar). By slightly lowering the resolution from 1280x1024 to 1024x768, that video card gets a 50% gain in framerate in Crysis. (It goes up from 30 to 45) Which is quite a lot for such a small decrease in resolution, so decreasing it even further to 480P would make for quite a big jump in performance.

Thank you for the reply and the link :-)

I did som quick math. 480p = 345600 pixels and 720p = 921600 pixels. Meaning that to output in 720p the developer needs a resolution with 2,67 times more pixels than on the wii.

Now how many times stronger than the wii is the 360? And how much of that power is used to output 720p compared to wii's 480p?

Physichs , effects , animations is that affected be the resolution at all? Does it take more prosessor power to do those things in higher reolutions?

Again i'm no computer wiz, but it sure would be intersting getting some qualified thoughts on this subject. Question is , is the wii capable of running resi5 the way we have seen it in the trailer in 480p? Meaning a lot less sharp, but still great looking?
