This joke of a review is why I generally put little to no stock in "critic" reviews of video games. I doubt most of them have played it thoroughly enough to even give a proper impression and/or were paid to shill.

Mario Kart 64 is widely regarded as one of the most beloved gaming classics even after 25 years. Not bad for a game that the reviewer claimed we'd all be "bored of within a week".

@ecurl143: Not to defend Nintendo here, but they deliberately stopped going with beefy hardware after the Gamecube era, in fact, both it and the N64 were more powerful than their competitors at the time.

High end specs means nothing without a good gaming library.

I wish more VA were more loyal to their characters.

I can think up a few realistic recommendations for the n64 library; many of these were in the Wii's Virtual Console library, so there's a good chance they will be added in at some point:

Mario Party 2 and Mario Party 3 would be great additions, as they were considered the peak of the whole series. MP2 was a Wii Virtual Console title, so there's a good chance of it being added to the library.

Bomberman 64, Bomberman Hero, and Bomberman 64: Second Attack; there may be a bit of a hurdle here, as they were added before Hudson Soft was absorbed by Konami, but I don't see any reason why Konami would object to these three titles being included since they are on good terms with Nintendo. Like with MP2, Bman Hero was originally a VC game, so there's a good chance it'll be added in at the very least.

Donkey Kong 64: another old great that also was added to the VC during the Wii era.

Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2, if they add the GB/C games to the controller pak slots, they could actually be extremely good additions. Stadium 1 could have Red, Blue, Yellow, and another cart for the 4th slot. While 2 can have Gold/Silver/Crystal and Yellow for backward capabilities. This one is quite a long shot, but would be the best way to re-experience the original games.

Excitebike 64

Banjo-Tooie - The original game is being added soon, so this one is a given,

Pilotwings 64

Pokemon Puzzle League

That's all I can think of that have a reasonable likeliness of being added.

@blaznwiipspman1: Banjo-Kazooie was originally an N64 exclusive and was a frequently requested pick since Melee. In fact, had MS not bought their parent company, I'm imagine they'd have gotten in a lot sooner.

Minecraft has been multiplatform for nearly a decade.

Halo is almost exclusively a Microsoft game.

@sippio:

Sigh... 'Freedom of Speech' means the government cannot arrest or otherwise silence you for what you say in public spaces.

Twitch is a privately owned webspace; 'Freedom of Speech' does notapply to them. Using their site means their way or the highway.... And their way includes 'no hate speech'.

Hell, Twitch or any other social media site can choose to instantly permaban anyone who says 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' for all they care, and no amount of free speech rights or litigation can stop them from doing so. If someone is not okay with that, they are free to use another space or make their own.

@Thanatos2k: Uhh, Nintendo is verrry draconic about pirating their software. Even for obsolete hardware.

@Lamesy:

Then you probably don't understand why the GB/C was so popular and integral to Nintendo's success in the handheld market at the time. That and the hardware limitations.

The games were very cheap (25$ for an GB cart vs 60$ for a console game), and had a surprising amount of content in some of the more popular titles, especially games like Link's Awakening, Final Fantasy Adventure, and Donkey Kong '94.

Granted it didn't really take off until Pokemon was released, but without the GB we would not have the GBA, then NDS, and possibly even the Switch right now.

@Barighm: Don't forget the rampant guild poaching during TBC. It speaks volumes that raid guilds would rather steal someone already fully attuned from another guild and feed them gear than to go thru the whole attunement process again for a fresh Lv70 player.

Classic's attunements were very simple in comparison, even the Horde's Onyxia attunement wasn't that obnoxious. Blizzard went completely overboard with them in TBC, you needed a visual guide just to understand the whole process. It says a lot when there was unanimous cheering when Blizzard announced towards the end of TBC that they were removing the attunement reqs entirely.

I'm not surprised the next expansion nuked the attunement gameplay altogether and that the mechanic has never been revisited since. Having a guild raider quit was extremely punishing as is.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is pretty underrated as a series, it's got an actual functional storylines unlike the main games, and the art and music are top notch. And it is a pretty forgiving roguelike within itself (it has the traditional 'start from Lv1 with no gold/items' as extra dungeons and a fairly robust postgame for the more hardcore players).

I definitely recommend giving the demo a peek at least.
