@Shawnb65 @Kevin-V @Psil0X Maybe the reason the problem keeps coming up is because sexism *is* a huge problem in the gaming community. The podcast is doing nothing other than responding to recent gaming industry news...The fact that it seems issues like these frequently come up is perhaps more of a reflection of just how big of a problem it is in the gaming industry. And if you honestly don't think there is a sexism problem in the industry...then I don't know what to say.

Here's why I think you feel "unwelcome": I can see you think yourself not sexist (at least I hope so) and therefore doesn't need to hear the talk. But the thing is, while the people who are sexist are of course the root of the problem, people like you, who run away from talking about them, are implicitly part of the problem by ignoring the issue and letting it continue to exist.

Does that mean everyone should be up in arms and shouting for industry change? No. But holding beliefs like "such topics have no place in a gaming podcast" is part of the why the gaming industry has these problems, and will continue to have them if everyone thinks like you. You can of course be annoyed if you feel like there's too much talk of it. But I see you deep down believe that there should be *no* talk of it and rather they belong elsewhere... So yeah in a way, the reason you feel like you are not getting it is because...well...you are not quite getting it. So you kinda get "crapped on" because....you kinda deserve to be.

Was very disappointed when I fast forwarded to 37 minute mark and didn't hear discussion of splunky.

Other than that, great episode!

Somehow I associate the relationship between Kevin and Tom to that of an elementary school teacher and his student. Which means that it's actually one of my favorite things about the show!

I think the explosion sound track quiz would have been easier if Kevin also gave the quotes in the review/article that contained the word explosion. I liked the idea, but honestly there are way too many games with explosions, surprise surprise.

I am also ambivalent to the integrated multiplayer in single player idea. It is interesting, but I enjoy playing by myself. Well, it will ultimately all come down to execution and I'm keeping an eye on how they will turn out in the upcoming batch of games. But yeah, not too excited.

@Chiyou what I was really finding problem with was your last sentence, "I'm assuming he enjoyed the character development in uncharted and not the gameplay which makes him even more of a hypocrite". Just because *you* found the game simpler, does not mean *Tom* found it to be lacking in gameplay. If you go read Tom's review, you'd see that the reason he gave that game a high score was actually largely because of the gameplay - combat, co-op etc. are highlighted as the pros, along with the idea of exploring - all of which incidentally are things that only possible in video games, whereas the pro he gave for TLOU had things like "Ellen is a great character". (And also gameplay stuff too, but hopefully you see why he thinks that the game would also work great as a movie, especially since he also found trouble with the combat not working together with the story, but rather breaking immersion)

While you may not agree with his opinions (surprise! We may have different opinions on what's good), I think it's not a good idea to say someone is a hypocrite and inconsistent in *their* view based on *your* opinions of what these 2 games were like, especially if your idea is harder game means good gameplay because that's not automatically true. I find Tom to be full of opinions I don't agree with (and some I do agree with), but in this case he was quite consistent in which of these games work better as a game and which would work as a film.

difficulty is not automatically a synonym to good gameplay

@JRLennis I've read that there's a way to help the people behind - that there's a mushroom at like 45 degree angle near checkpoints and if you hit it it drops a helper item at your behind teammates. Haven't tried it but may be helpful.

Another great episode! Chris was a great guest, very knowledgeable and gave some great insights. Thanks for having him!

I gotta say, Kevin really seem to know what games Tom play...kinda a running theme now that Tom will always ask "is this a game I have played" on the quizzes and Kevin will have the answer for sure. Disadvantage for other quiz participants! :P
