The ending to SotC made me feel sad and teary but I never actually cried

Same. It was Agro that made it emotional for me. Only other example I can think of is the end of disc 1 on FFVII (surely not a spoiler for anyone but I've played that safe anyway lol).

Mirror's Edge - a very refreshing and innovative use of the first person perspective. People criticised the quality of and lack of gunplay, missing the whole point of the game.

Blur - an interesting and very fun take on the arcade racer. Looks beautiful too. It's a shame it never took off as it had the potential to be a multiplayer classic.

Alan Wake - its debatable whether this game is actually underrated... probably more overlooked if anything. Easily one of the best 360 exclusives IMO. Psychological action adventure gaming as it should be.

I'm hoping Mass Effect 3 doesn't disappoint.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning may be in with a shout if it comes good, as it seems to be very ambitious... but may suffer from being overshadowed by Skyrim still if it gets released at the start of the year as planned.

Only other games I can think of are Bioshock Infinite, The Last Guardian and Diablo 3.

Too many sequels. I must be the only one, but I don't enjoy playing the same game over and over, with slight variations each time. Most of these franchises are past their prime in terms of quality anyway.

Stuffing multiplayer into games where nobody even wants it.

Console wars - egads

You basically said the 3 things that bother me the most.

The sequels one especially. Some of the biggest games this year I just don't understand the popularity of because they just seem like more of the same to me. MW3, AC: Revelations, Gears of War 3 especially. I personally find it really hard to get the same enjoyment out of a sequel as I did the first time round (unless its changed and improved massively), and would much rather play something that's new to me.

Also, I'd like to add pointless DLC... or DLC that should have been included in the retail copy of the game.

ME1 and 2 have quite a few differences, and I think it's fair to say opinions are polarised when it comes to which is the better game.

If there's one series this generation where playing all the games in order is advisable to get a good understanding of the story I'd say it's Mass Effect. Personally I love the first game but some of the optional content can get quite repetitive and dull. The main story is good though.

Final Fantasy XIII - had to force myself through most of the game. I've been a fan of the FF series for about 13 years now but I found that game such a slog.

Devil May Cry 4 - The series hasn't really evolved at all, and I thought the level design was very poor compared to the original. Bosses all get recycled and there's a lot of revisiting areas, which felt a cheap way to pad out the game.

Resident Evil 5 - Borrowed it off a friend and hated it. Games shouldn't be this frustrating to control in this day and age.

In recent times... The Witcher.

Favourite RPG ever? Probably FFVII or FFIX, although Neverwinter Nights has consumed my life the most.

Most games these days really lose immersion if you play music at the same time. Sports games and driving games I sometimes will but nothing else.

The first will be one out of: SSX, Mass Effect 3, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Bioshock Infinite. Will probably get the Silent Hill games too. Early 2012 is looking good.

Mass Effect 3 probably tops the list, but I'm also looking forward to Bioshock Infinite, Silent Hill: Downpour, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, SSX, The Last Guardian.
