@the13stuff GameStop is definitely a rip off, but they owe nothing to game developers regardless. No other industry has developers profiting from the sale of used merchandise. As much as GameStop is a blatant rip off, there's no legal or even moral reason they should give a cut of used sales back to developers.

COMPROMISE? Just because the developers want it and whine about it doesn't mean they should get it. It's unfair. No other industry in history has ever had creators or publishers profiting from used merchandise sales. Why do game developers deserve special treatment? No offense intended, but this is an important question that needs a satisfactory answer before you even think about a compromise. That compromise would set a very serious precedent never before seen.

Things like this are just sharpening the divide between customers and pirates. It's like a 2 party political system. The only question is which is red and which is blue?

@Scorpion1813 How are customers just as guilty? Customers are customers because they bought the product. Buying a product makes you guilty?

Can someone explain to me why people still use GameStop to buy used games? It's a rip off. We all know they're ripping off both the seller and the buyer. If you use craigslist or Ebay, buying directly from the previous gamer, the seller gets more $ than GameStop would pay them, and the buyer pays less than GameStop would resell it for.

With a used car, you don't get all the benefits of having a new one. Used cars are much more likely to need repairs sooner than new ones, and those repairs aren't cheap. A used game doesn't come with these costs. The game is as good as new and plays just as well. At the very most you might get some scratches on the disc or a cracked case. This analogy is flawed. The used books analogy is much better.

It's interesting that you never mention how much of a rip off GameStop's (and other retailers) used games are. The markup is ridiculous. With craigslist or ebay you can buy games directly from the previous gamer without the middleman. With this, both sides are getting a better deal too. The seller gets more money for their game than a retailer would pay them, and the buyer is getting the game for less than a retailer would resell it for.

@Rigadoon The production value of books compared to video games is so glaringly obvious it's hard to believe you made this point with a straight face
