@RSM-HQ: Agree that gameplay is the most important element when it comes to the overall quality of the game but cannot discount the other aspects especially when there have been other games that have set the precedent for how MH games should look. We have MH: World that looks better and you can consider this a step down to what we have played. Naturally that could be considered a deterioration of the player experience and should be denoted as such instead of a progression.

There are many situations where graphics/performance adds to the gameplay aspects in ways that were not possible with older games that have enhanced how games look and feel to play now. Some genres need it more than others. A game like tetris needs it the least but when you consider an action adventure game, the world and its set pieces could largely benefit from the techincal performance & graphical technologies. Without this progression, we would not have amazing worlds like RDR2 that are closest to lifelike

I dont think 30 fps is unplayable but we really need to push 60 fps to be the standard by now. Really makes a big difference in play experience.

@mrbojangles25: In the end, none of these public companies do anything out of the good of their heart. Their motive is to net as much money as possible which ever the most lucrative business venture is. Right now, Sony's exclusives have been the deciding factor along with abysmal marketing decisions from Micrsoft at the start of last generation. Though a lot of good will has been restored by Microsoft ever since. Both companies need to push each other in the end in order for more consumer friendly practises to prevail because that is what will shift market share ultimately.

Ofcourse in an ideal world, exclusives would not exist but that would imply Sony give up on their competitive advantage considering many other factors favor xbox such as their superior hardware and their joint ecosystem with all windows platforms. Also exclusives aren't exactly all bad considering Microsoft and Sony help fund projects on multitude of studios otherwise alot of the games we have played over the decades wouldnt exist in the first place. It is a problem in the PC market where you hardly see a plethora of high quality triple A games as there is a lack of funding for those highly cinematic games that you see on consoles. There is a much higher developmental risk associated with making these triple A games and the ones that exist on these platforms more often than not are riddled with microtransactions.

Personally for me, if console exclusives stopped existing then I doubt I would buy one and would only stick to PC gaming strictly. May not be a majority but feel like alot of others would do the same.

@Barighm:

Usually the main criticism would be that the story deviated from what they orginally remembered back in the day and hence it ruined their nostalgia. I felt that the game 90% of the time hit the mark. You could argue that the changes were not good but for me that depends if they dont explain it well enough in the next parts.

(slight spoiler warning)

What i enjoy about the change is all the theorycrafting about the game being more of a sequel rather than a faithful remake. The game is taking a risk with this time based stuff and there is a fear that this Kingdom of Hearts similarities could turn out to be a mess but that makes it interesting for me. I am sure that the next games will have 90% of things from the original too. Also playing the game a second time around, you notice certain cues that you didnt before keeping in mind the revelations you had towards the end of the game.

As for gameplay, i think they did implement it extremely well and is probably the best part of the game along with the music. Some did not like that it wasn't turn based but I think they nailed the combat.. Also the character building is better than the original. Game can get repetitive with its side missions but even with the negatives, I didnt want the game to end.

@Barighm: I did not have much of an issue with the Remake story. It all depends on what they do with the next part. If they kept it literally the same, it would have been just boring and formuliac knowing what is going to happen. I guess a lot of people just want a like for like copy of the game with better graphics but I am open to this change as long they dont bottle it.

@Utnayan: This time its being handled by Vicarious Visions so hopefully it turns out well. From their developers interview, it seems like they are going down the right path. Ofcourse, holding all reservations until its out but I am abit more optimistic than I am with the WC3 reforged.

75% around at the moment on metacritic. It may as well still be a good game but will have to see for myself.

@twztid13: Over time, I have seen that ratings are not calculated as a tally for positives over negatives but rather the overall experience. Based on that subjective experience of the player, the game is graded accordingly. A game may have less negatives but the overall experience can still not be as fulfilling.

@tbird7586True, there are hit or miss reviews but not for the reason of not following the status quo. If the review is just a poor evalution of the game then sure it can be a miss but in this case it may not be.

I would still generally trust the general concensus over just one persons review as it does tend to line up well in terms of the quality of the game. There are few exceptional cases where it may not and it can be an outlier but after playing the game, I will know if it lines up with the 86 or the 7 that gamespot gave. In more cases, the metacritic scores have been more in line with how i see it. In the end, its all subjective.

I wouldn't say boring but it did get monotonous as the games go on. Unless you are playing the hardest difficulties where you might have to find ways to tackle obstacles, you would just find yourself spamming the same combos, square square triangle for example. Initially, the awe sets in when you see how slick and fluid the combat is with kratos mowing down the mob of enemies though later on it definitely wears off and you find yourself grinding through to the next boss without a thought.

I don't think the combat was bad as such since a lot of people did enjoy it. 6-7 games in, I do however think that a change is needed. I feel like this change could put some focus on enemies being a proper threat and a focus on how kratos deals with the threat in a way that people put more thought into it, in a similar way that Dark Souls does.

The formula did need a change of perspective and a new way of telling a story that has been on the backdrop for a few games. Most people just cared about killing gods and nothing else, the story was a second thought. I think this time, the story could be the focal point where people want to know how everything develops from a narrative to an emotional standpoint.
