3 parts to discuss one game. They haven't even talked about what it is like to work for them, what kind of creative benefits do they bestow on young developers...nothing. Now Randy's talking about Borderlands 3. :|

"I'm not gonna force stuff if people aren't go to buy it". Hit the nail on the head there. If you ever tried, it's gonna work either.

@chaosbrigade @comb5 @Tychobrahi Sadly my friendly Panda, you're not gonna get any. If they haven't done it by now, they're not gonna do it at all. I remember the first time I saw the trailer and the vertical slice of the game. Yes, that vertical slice where everything looked awesome and went back and played AVP 2 just for nostalgia sake. Sadly, I was left more satisfied by my nostalgia.

I for one will be viewing all their future projects through the eye of a looking glass and discredit all the hype until then.

@comb5 @Tychobrahi I had the game pre-ordered waiting for my 100 bucks to be cashed in for a great collectors edition but then I started to notice the embargo on the game wasn't lifted until the day of which was a sleazy move on their behalf and then I started to see the hamster wheel turning and before you know it I've changed my pre-order to Last Of Us.

@comb5 @Tychobrahi Lol. You're just talking to a rational gamer.

I always look at companies who understand their expectations full well before tackling a project. They acquired the aliens license in 2006-07 just around when Borderlands went into early development. I know that it would have been to their own detriment to release an Aliens game during then because they were creating this happy accident that would spawn a great level of fans and general appreciation for RPG shooters especially on the consoles. Now since then they've had plenty of time to churn a great Aliens game, whether it be pushing UT3 to its max to or really working hard on a strong story and gameplay mechanics for 5 freaking years. Instead somewhere they decided to make this sequel which was easy peasy considering they already had much of the assets and all they had to do with put a creative bunch of new features and characters. That took up their time and got them the result while what looked like an half abandoned Aliens project moved over to Time Gate for completion.

In the meantime Randy "The Hype" Pitchford went parading around all sorts of amazing things for fans that really wanted to see through their beloved franchise.

And then everything goes downhill. They don't even acknowledge their mistakes, in fact they do the opposite of that and stick with their broken game and get pandered by critics and fans all over and are now in hot water because it's the whole boy who cried wolf syndrome. No one believes them anymore.

A pretty adequate response to a studio that decided to take on a mammoth of a project like Aliens knowing full well at some point they'll be making a sequel to Borderlands.

@comb5 @Tychobrahi Good analogy but studios today are all about making great Ruebens and Milkshakes and Bon Bons in the same shop. If they suck at either of those, they try on a new tasty treat to attract the crowd. Not make an even tastier Rueben because everyone knows they can do that well.

Now when I'm paying 60 bucks of my hard earned money I expect a really good packaged product and not a poorly executed game that under utilized THE franchise that influenced every game developer who ever wanted to make a shooter. I saw the love and respect they had for CM but they got greedy somewhere along the way in making a sequel to their LATEST GREATEST money maker ALA Borderlands.

Also a company, any company accepts its wins and losses with grace. They haven't done that once to my knowledge. So yeah, it irks me that all they do is talk about Borderlands. It makes me ever more cautious about anything they ever do again that isn't Borderlands because at the end of the day I look for variety in my sandwiches. Even a very tasty Reuben doesn't quite cut it over a period.

A studio isn't just build on one great game. They have to creatively push themselves with new projects and make sure they execute it with near precision to keep up with the growing trends of the next generation of games.

@comb5 @Tychobrahi Yikes. Have you seen their other specials? Did you watch the Ken Levine interview? He talked about more than just Bioshock even though that's their biggest selling franchise. The idea with these indepth interviews is to show the company as a whole, not to take one aspect of their success and dissect it.

The fact that you're okay with them just making Borderlands games tells me the kind of gamer you are. But that's your interest and I respect that. Just know that eventually people will expect more from them and given their track record it's a sink or swim situation.

@comb5 @Tychobrahi Calm your tits. When I read An Evening with Gearbox Software Part 2 I'm hoping they're going to at least talk about other games and not just blabber about the same shit twice. I get it. Borderlands put them on the map, made them good money etc. but come on man, this one trick pony shit is annoying.
