Very sad to hear it.

Still, I hope this won't discourage Warren from continuing his career in Game Design. I hope he won't lose his passion for making games because of this incident.

I must admit, the most fun I've had with the original Epic Mickey was watching the Behind the Scenes footage and interviews with Warren Spector.

@1valiantknight @Psylumin and yet these games are primarily made for the children that crave more of these games. Think about violent movies! Robocop was rated mature and yet it was most popular with the kids that liked the badass-appeal of the movie.

Nothing is best for video games, but if you want to make mature games, make mature games, and if you want to make games that teenagers can play, make them so that they can be rated T for Teen. Instead, we have mature rated games for kids.

@JukedSolid Yes, if you have them on your harddrive but do not have an active subscription, it will tell you to renew your subscription.

I absolutely agree with you Tom! Even if we just forget about the effects that violent video games may have on children, I don't see the point in having violence in most video games.

I may not be as strict as you in this discussion, but I still believe that many games could do away with violence. I hate the fact that it has become the predominate 'style' to focus on for developers. Instead of focusing on more natural environments, they focus on finding new ways to make heads explode and making the blood flow.

And that's coming from a veteran gamer's perspective. I remember back in the day how much of a shock it was to watch my friend play Soul Reaver, which I considered to be the most violent game ever. I had to look away when my friend impaled his enemies, and yet there was this 'cool' factor about it because... Well, violence is 'cool' when you are a kid, especially when you don't see it very often (because its something for the grown ups).

Back then, it felt more like the exception to the rule. You felt as if you were doing something wrong when you played this kind of game once every three years, but I fear that feeling is lost for the new generation. They grow up with the violence portrayed in Call of Duty, Gears of War and etc., and it becomes a normal thing. Of course it desensitizes them, though I don't believe it does so as much as watching a violent movie in which real human beings are the victims of that sort of violence. Still, why is that necessary?

And for us "grown up" gamers, why do we need violence this much? Hasn't this style become boring, at least a little bit?! I am done with games like Mad World and No More Heroes, it was interesting for three or four games, but let's stop it here.

@emandanijeldax Thanks to Sony and Microsoft? Thanks to Epic Games, Naughty Dog and whoever made Resistance.

If that is the case, I can just say the same things about Nintendo. Thanks to Nintendo we've got The World Ends With You, Kid Icarus Uprising, Professor Layton, Epic Mickey, Wonderful 101, Rhythm Thief, Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Xenoblade Chronicles, Scribblenauts, Golden Sun, Animal Crossing, Ace Attorney.... Bla bla.

If we are talking new games on Nintendo systems, you would be a fool to claim that the other system developers are playing it less safe than Nintendo.

That being said, Nintendo sticks to their guns, that's absolutely true, but I need to agree with the other users who said that everybody is pretty much sticking to what has sold in the past. You say Nintendo is taking less risks because they are sticking to franchises that have existed since the 80s? Perhaps you are right, and yet these franchises are only the same in name most of the time. Brand recognition perhaps, but also because Nintendo has a different reputation to keep up. Complain all you want, but nobody should say that Nintendo is doing something 'wrong' or unexciting, we are talking about video games and as long as they deliver fun, you are doing it right.

I am surprised to see Spelunky. I have only seen gameplay footage and was never very captivated by the premise.Great list, definitely well-thought of! I love the diversity, and I think that really is the key to a successful and enjoyable year in video games.

Tales of Graces F was by my favorite game to play through this year. It was a very fresh experience and unlike any other game I have played. For some reason I felt like I was playing Grandia all over again... I don't exactly know why (either the general mood of the game or just the fun that I had playing it). I am definitely pre-ordering Tales of Xilia, and count me in as a fan of this franchise. Superb experience, I am telling you. It gets campy some times, but much more rarely than other JRPGs. No unnecessary melodrama. Instead, lots of humor. We need more like this.

@Business_Fun That's the fun thing about Crossovers I guess. I am not a huge Ace Attorney fan myself, but love the Layton franchise. Let's hope we will both be satisfied.

@Megavideogamer They don't fight one another, I would think. They do work together to find the truth, I would just guess that both have different conclusions as to which character is truly guilty of the crime at the center of the story.
