Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney detailed in new trailer

Trailer for 3DS crossover title reveals more gameplay details; puzzles will be combined with signature Ace Attorney courtroom interrogations.

by

A new trailer for upcoming crossover title Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney from Capcom and Level-5 has revealed more details about the gameplay.

Although the trailer is in Japanese, the gameplay footage makes it evident that the title will combine the defining elements from each of the two franchises.

Players will be required to investigate clues and solve different kinds of puzzles while playing as Professor Layton and Luke, while the other part of the game will require the same courtroom interrogations and clue matching that has defined the Ace Attorney series.

Players will alternate between Layton and Phoenix Wright.

According to CVG, the game's story will see Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright descend on the medieval town of Labyrinth City, where villain ruler Story Teller is able to create anything he wants simply by writing it down.

Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney is due out in Japan on November 29 for the 3DS. There are currently no details about a Western release for the game.

Well, this is a crossover that I did not expect. These games are so vastly different, but I'm sure Level 5 and Capcom can deliver. I may follow this game just because I love how unique the concept is.

I'd gladly buy two copies if they'd simply release it here.

WIth such a team (Professor Layton as an investigator and Phoenix Wright as interrogator) I would never break the law again. Never

I bought a 3DS just for this and Ace Attorney 5. Can't wait!

So it's a phoenix wright game, but there is the Layton character doing the investigation instead of Wright as usual?

Its sad that this game might not get a release in the West. Are Gamers over here really not interested in these sorts of games? Are there really so few of us that want this?We need to change this, but how? We can't even buy original copies of some of the Ace Attorney games because some of them are out of print and expensive to get. At least give us a chance to show you how much we want this crossover. Also, I am sure they can make a series out of this. It does not need to be one single crossover.

This is the only reason I bought a 3DS so they better localize this game! Can't wait for Ace Attorney 5 also!

In the immortal words of the Village People: Go West! :D

If this game doesn't make it over to the west then I am going to be so pissed off with Japanese devs. They keep on hoarding all the good stuff for themselves and leaving us with their attempts at "western style" games.

Some of us want all the quirky, the colourful, the outright mad games that you develop. So send them over here!

As lethally-boring as both of those are the combination is slightly interesting...at least it makes for an interesting concept and it just might be entertaining.

Aren't Professor Layton and Ace Attorney both "Good Guy's" The hero's of each of their stories. So how is that they end up pitted against each other? Cross Universe stories rarely make sense. Mortal Kombat VS DC universe didn't go over so well. Even though that was a simple fighting game.

I bought my 3DS for this. And Virtue's Last Reward, which came today in Australia and the game that I'm playing for 2 hours straight right now. It's amazing.

More Phoenix Wright is awesome; more Professor Layton not so much. Just the thought of staring into those cold, dead, black Lego man's eyes makes me shudder.

@kavadias1981 You guys aren't serious, are you? It costs money to ship overseas and do localizations for each region and all that good stuff, something they obviously won't do if there's no market for it. If they predict a loss, then it's not worth it. Simple as that.

@kavadias1981 I agree. They have some JRPGs that I really want over here since I can't read or speak Japanese.

@shmedo Hey, if you are waiting for Virtue's Last Reward, it's out already, on the nintendo online shop. That game is amazing man, go buy it.

@Megavideogamer They don't fight one another, I would think. They do work together to find the truth, I would just guess that both have different conclusions as to which character is truly guilty of the crime at the center of the story.

@Kaz32 hmm, didn't know what virtue's last reward was, looked it up. THERE"S A SEQUAL TO 9 HOURS 9 PERSONS 9 DOORS???? Well, the profesor layton game that just came out was my reason for buying the 3ds, guess there's 2 bonus pieces of awesome for me as well.

@Business_Fun That's the fun thing about Crossovers I guess. I am not a huge Ace Attorney fan myself, but love the Layton franchise. Let's hope we will both be satisfied.

@abHS4L88 fail there are no Ls in the japanese language

I did not know this either, I've still yet to really play 999. I'm going to have to get a 3DS sometime, mostly for the Professor Layton and Ace Attorney games. Please tell me I wasn't the only one that was disappointed in the story for  The Last Specter?

abHS4L88
abHS4L88

 @pcty

I know that, I'm making a joke of it because Japanese usually cannot distinguish between L and R so I'm taking it to the extreme by completely switching them around.

As a Filipino, we do something similar with P and F.

Kaz32
Kaz32

@rswsc0407 Good luck with that, and Goddamn the Unwound Future's ending is sad. Pretty disappointing that in the trilogy there is no spirits and ghosts involved, but it's still a satisfying experience.

On another note, you should buy Virtue's Last Reward. When they say there's 24 different endings, they weren't kidding. Some of them are just bad short endings but the rest are as if you are playing a visual novel with 12 girls that takes 5 hours each to finish. You will spend 1 month to finish the game to get the true ending.

 @Kaz32

I haven't bothered with London Life yet, I had decided to play through the first 3 again first. I'm not saying that the story isn't well written, it's just the revealing of everything wasn't as good I guess. Great, now I'm going to have to play Unwound Future cause I really liked the story and everything in that one, I just can't remember any of it. I was taking a break from playing it cause I played the first two back to back.

Kaz32
Kaz32

@rswsc0407 The story's pretty well written though, just like everything else in the series. To tie up a bunch of puzzle games with an interesting story and an rpg at the same time is admirable, though the end of the game is pretty much the same as the previous one, with less tears shed.

@abHS4L88 My point is that they don't have the phonemes that reproduce the L (la,le,li,lo,lu)sound in their language just the (ra,ri,ru,re,ro), I'm not implying that they are physichally unable to reproduce the sound.

Why do think they pronunciate ball as "boru", Light as "Raito", Library as "Raibari" and so on?

abHS4L88
abHS4L88

 @pcty

They can, but it's not common. When watching Japanese shows, anime or listening to music, I can hear them making the L sound every now and then.

RedLegZeff
RedLegZeff

@pcty  @abHS4L88 English speakers can't produce some sounds either, I think trilling r's and some sounds in india's language. Basically you can create any sound until you're about 2 years old, when you stop being able to produce sounds that aren't in the language you hear. Some people try to introduce other languages to kids by this time so they have an easier time learning other languages later.

pcty
pcty

@abHS4L88 It is not that they can distinguish they just can't reproduce the "L" sound.

@KickinIt_ftw Actually the OP made a comment about America. To whit: Bringing the game to America. he didn't even mention Japan.

KickinIt_ftw

@DarkSaber2k Oh no, there are plenty, but these are the only two that relate this thread. The OP was making a comment about Japan, then you threw in a line from Full Metal Jacket, which is about Vietnam. Seeing as they're about 3,000 miles apart, it begged the question.

@DarkSaber2k  I mean they're about as far away from each other as New York City is from Reykjavik, Iceland.
