[QUOTE="LoG-Sacrament"][QUOTE="CubeJL"]yes, nintendo does have a real talent in ostracizing their most loyal fans. i completely support you in your decision to buy another console. personally i felt used by nintendo after owning only a cube for so long. thats why i dont plan on buying a wii this year or maybe even next year as well.I am a HUGE Nintendo fan (as my profile name might suggest). But I almost feel ostracized by them...
This goes beyond Nintendo's selection of what I still consider the WORST name for a console in gaming history-- yes, it has a slight positive connotation across many languages, but here in the states (the number 1 buyer, seller, and producer of video games) the connotation is that of a kid's toy, or...well, exactly.
For Nintendo, the Wii could possibly be the best thing the company has ever produced. Strictly in terms of profitability right out of the box and its HUGE positive response from early adopters, the Wii looks to be nothing but a financial success for Nintendo regardless of how well they "fare" against other consoles. So, yes, the Wii, in terms of pure business, looks to be a resounding win for the N.
But what about me? The hardcore guy? The guy that bought the first Nintendo, and every one since, all the way up into his late 20s? I want to see high poly versions of Mario with stunning graphics and cutting-edge physics. I want to see Samus running around beautifully rendered atmospheres with reflective water surfaces, beams of sunlight, real time lighting, and full AA. In short, I want to see my favorite Nintendo characters realized in the best artistic light possible...am I wrong for that?
What could have been from a high-end "Wii"? Does it make as much business sense as targeting the casual gamer and not going head-to-head with other technology leaders? Probably not...but that doesn't stop me from wishing it had...

Yeah, the Cube was a long drawn out generation if you didn't own one of the other consoles. I can agree with you on that.
especially since nintendo completely abandoned it for more than a year before the wii was launched.
