@chronocommander @Killermonkey97 You see, I also disagree with Tom in saying that the game hasn't aged well. I just picked up the NES copy a couple of months ago, and I found it playable. I can't vouch for the guy's low score--he just didn't think the game held up very well as we do. I don't mind that aspect, that's just up to you or me to really be sold on.
Everything else about this game, like not changing a thing about the game's life system (apart from an Easy Mode that gives you too much health anyways) or fleshing out the game with a story, are frustrating decisions to me. Like, it's incredible that they got the original voice actors to reprise their roles, but none of what was executed actually translates well into the game, at least according to what I've seen of this game.
Maybe the score could have been a 5 or something, but what's the difference? The game would have been a bummer for me regardless.
People are always complainin about his low scores for hyped games these days. But I want everyone to know this is the same guy that gave A Boy and His Blob an 8.0. Also made by Wayforward Technologies, based on a NES platformer as well, and actually WAS a good game to boot. A good example of a reboot done right. If all this is is a straight-up carbon copy with pretty sprites and banter that's better suited for a more animated cartoon version (which they totally should do), then no. Wayforward can do better!
Wayforward makes some good-lookin' side-scrollers, so it bums me out how awesome the character sprites look but how bleh it mixes in with the environment.
