I smell f2p. Most probably they need to experiment with it and find what would work yet not to make same mistake as countless others with f2p (most of them slip into p2w while others are too meh to spend anything in microtransactions).
Still, f2p works best for the MOBA games yet many MMO RPGs claim they got increased income once they switched to f2p. I don't mind f2p if the game is made good and microtransactions don't offer OP items. NWO has really nice f2p set yet game itself is not long enough and doesn't suck you in for too long.
@NTM23 Dude, you are looking on things only from your point of view. When 'Murica goes somewhere to spread democracy, you see it as heroic act. Others see it as violation of international laws, disrespect of sovereignty of particular country, unwelcome, unneeded and unwanted intervention from US... list goes on. But, 'muricans see that as spreading democracy and that justifies everything. People are sick of that attitude http://i.imgur.com/ALXLBs3.gif so they become more and more vocal about it openly expressing their thoughts about 'Murica that 'muricans ignored for so long. It is freedom of speech actually. This is meme, but it is how people see 'Murica: http://global3.memecdn.com/democracy_o_1510529.jpg http://www.bearcanada.com/graphics/fae/usa/democracy.jpg there are far worse than these... and those are opinions too...
@BrYaNq93 You might notice your country has quite a huge population and with it a lot of different opinions. The thing is, managers trough advertisements run pretty much every aspect of your society trough hype (not only in game business). Of course there are other Americans who prefer non war games. Yet hype over war, shooting and killing games is pretty big hype and easy to go along with when you are new upcoming player.
@Caldrin HD as marketing thing. Merchants like to ovehype things by adding this HD where potential customers see that as "Well it is HD I heard that is something good"
If so, Hines should take in consideration that DLC should be free. The whole team is engaged to make a game with some content. If they finish sooner and game is not out yet, technically they are making same content yet in this case they can breach deadline and say "it's DLC". They [developers] have been already paid and hired to do that work anyway. This is cheap exploit of both gamers and developers (if day-one-DLC is charged).
I heard of Tera but never played before. When they announced they gonna be f2p I thought it will be masked p2w but I was wrong. It is really f2p, world design is really good, it runs quite smooth on my PC (much better than GW2), combat is great (I love this action oriented combat instead of classic tapping). The downside is repetitive quests and "some races" design. For now I enjoy this pretty much.
For a f2p game (as it is now) it is quite good. Anything purchased in microtransactions is not making players OP so those who like PvP won't be treated different if they are 100% f2p player or someone who pays for items.
