@ZRavN That's the problem. He didn't take enough. If you take billions or trillions, you can be a Senator or the President.

@dacheron Often not.

Demon's Souls on PS3 is a good example of this. Demon's Souls server shut down eliminating the online experience, leaving it a single-player game only. However, after a large public outcry, they turned the north american servers back on.

But in the case of Sim City or Diablo which REQUIRE a server just to play a pure single-player game, it seems that the game would just cease to function-- which is something everyone should consider when doing anything cloud-based.

So disappointing. I might get it if they get the server issues fixed. I really don't get the multiplayer aspect of it-- I mean, I can see it adding some interesting aspects if the user chooses it, but this trend of forcing single-player gamers into an active online session just to run a game... seems doomed to fail.

@paul120987 @Morphine_OD And since it's an 'always-online' game, we know that you like Cheet-ohs, you have a New Kidz On the Block poster in your room, and you're 'batin' regularly.

@Icky27 I've been waiting for years for a new Sim City version. I go all the way back to Sim City 1... It seemed that for the longest time the Sim franchise had just been turned into a long stretch of "The Sims" games where you get to play dressup.

It's unfortunate they have this always-online concept, but hopefully they'll get it addressed. I'm really looking forward to seeing this game.

I find this whole thing kind of fascinating.

I remember discussing with some colleagues back in the early 90s about the concept of 'software as a service'-- back when the internet was in its infancy. No one had ever heard of the concept of 'cloud computing' and the like.

I remember making the point that I wasn't 100% comfortable with the idea that I'd have to be 'online' or 'connected to the internet' to compute. Simply put, why do I need to be connected to an outside service to add two numbers together, or draw pictures, or make music, or play games when I'm not seeking a multiplayer environment.

Because of the reliability of internet connections, plus the advent of cloud computing and server virtualization, this is now becoming a reality. It seems to work well in an enterprise office environment, but call me old fashioned, I really don't see why I need an always-on connection to the internet to play a game like Diablo or Sim City when I'm not involving remote human players.

Being online to "compute" definitely seems to have its downsides.

Permadeath is an awesome element in the right game. XCom and Valkyria chronicles do it best (from my experience). You CAN reload from a backup, but if you want to play hardcore, you don't.

@Rotondi @RedWave247 , it more seems like GS is exploiting posts that seem like easy targets, instead of just responding to those comment in the actual forum.

Then it wouldn't be funny. It'd be a hard-hitting news show with frowny people staring at us through steepled fingers and severe looks on their countenance.

@huehefner89 I'm not sure they haven't 'improved real gaming'. Certainly the graphics will be better. The sharing option is interesting. The remote control for help issue is even more interesting.

They're at least trying to expand how people see the console. The whole thing may fall flat on its face, like any other concept. It's quite easy to build a faster, more powerful console (price point and consumer wallet size not withstanding). I think what they're trying to do is offer more services at the periphery, such as the social aspect.

If you just want better, faster graphics and processing, buy a new PC every 18 months.
