No offense, but aside from Uncharted 2 and possibly Super Mario Galaxy 2, none of those games are quite a 10. Red Dead Redemption & Portal 2 come close though. God of War 3, Gears of War and Crysis are all shallow games with amazing graphics. Metal Gear Solid 4 has about 12 hours of cutscenes and 6 hours of game and Dark Souls relies way to much on its difficulty to be "perceived" as good. The game isn't fun to play, can feel grindy, has mediocre music, sluggish, laggy controls, and its graphics aren't anything special, though it does have great sound effects and a nice sense of atmosphere. Still don't see why it got a 9.5.
I will give credit that Gears of War was the first game to visually look like a next-gen title. MGS4 also had incredible presentation and Crysis crashed my PC from its ridiculous requirements. God of War 3 had two cool battles (you could probably guess, Poseidon & Cronos), but everything else in the game was either bland or generic.
Carolyn Petit's a pretty terrible reviewer too, and Kevin Van Ord can be extremely hit & miss at times. He either gives a quality review or is totally off the mark such as with RE6.
Indeed. If the bullshit he complained about was more to his liking in the Last of Us, the game would probably be fucking impossible to complete with how unforgiving the game looks coupled with the odds usually being against you.
