After a while you realize a lot of games are feeding our need to "accomplish something". I have gotten much better at not playing games I dont like but he is right in that they are an easy substitute for just about anything else.
Well it didn't look very promising in the beta updates. It is a shame it didnt turn out very well. The D&D universe is all about customization so why bother eliminating that? The developer could have saved themselves money by not paying for the D&D licence.
As for the low quality of aspects other than combat, who is surprised? I am sure they are not expecting a large user base so better to limit the development expenses so that the game can make money with a modest player base. It does sound like the games appeal is in the user generated content.
I also know more than one MMO player who actively hate joining up with others. They just want to solo play in a large world with regular content additions. So from that perspective maybe they will attract a lot of players.
I am very skeptical. The vanila CIV V was not great certainly not as good as CIV IV. Gamespot raved about it as well. I will wait for player reviews before passing judgement but on this game I dont trust the review.
@vfibsux Do they make a profit off of these games? Seems only to be an opportunity to tarnish the studios brand. Perhaps peoples expectations of games like this are so low that no one will hold it against you if you put out s_h_it.
